Strength:

Good first car Nice appearance (Black) Sunroof is nice Factory Cd player is great with amp & Subs

Weakness:

The 2.2L SFI engine sucks !!!! You all should know !!! The new 2.2L ecotec @140Hp is very nice..Spend the extra $$$ if you have it.

I have been leasing this car now for about 6 months and overall it hasn't been that bad to me. A few complaints.. brakes seems to pop just before comming to a stop. Engine whistles and whines for extended periods from time to time. Passenger seat coil let go and know one ever sits in it, but I really shouldn't complain.. I previously owed a 93 Grand Am 3.3L and it was nothing but problems. That on it's own is another story. Power reduction from v6 3.3 to 4-nothing 2.2 hurts, but hey life goes on.. no more speeding tickets and less gas wasted. I recently installed underglow neons on this black coupe and I was impressed. With only aftermarket rims, windowtint and lowering kit installed .. it was all I needed. I spot way to many flamers with 6 foot high wings thinking they own the road for no reason. The sunfire is a good looking car. Pickup and Hp output is a totally different story which the boys @ Ponitac should consider looking at. Hopefully I'll get through the lease without any major problems, but who knows.. it is after all a PONTIAC.

Strength:

Very quick,handles good,looks sweet,and its my car.

Weakness:

the shut off sensor. It shuts down at 107-110.(took that out real quick)

I bought this car a year ago. I have really good luck with it. I think it is really snappy for a 4cyl. I put some extra stuff on it. (ram air hood, high wing spoiler, front and rear bumper, ground effects)It is my show car. I also put some NOZ in it. I highly recomend the 98 sunfire.

Strength:

Decent sized trunk & fold down back seat. Window lock for back windows (great for kids & annoying friends).Good pick up for smaller engine.Movable ashtray - small cup with lid that fits in rear cup holders. Rear cup holders fold up into arm rest. Removable compartment in arm rest to stash cash :).Large glove box w/ light. Dome light that looks like an alien or mickey mouse - take your pick. Reliable.

Weakness:

Front cup holder is not deep enough to secure regular sized drinks. There is no trunk release in interior of vehicle - have to use remote keyless entry or key to open it. ABS if you're not used to them.

Vehicle was purchased with 10 miles on it (I put 4 on it while test driving). It was recalled this year for a possible electrical malfunction with starter/ignition. This vehicle was purchased when I was a senior in H.S. and has carried me and my belongings over 2000 miles cross country. For a 4cyl. 2.4L engine decent pick up except for when the AC is running in 95+ weather (tends to drag). It currently has just over 49,000 miles and runs just as good as the day I drove it home. Only major part replaced was a chip in the coolant system that fried (coolant light would flash on when driving uphill & flash off on driving straight or downhill). Generally it averages 23-26 miles to the gallon, better when on cruise control.

Strength:

It looks sporty. I''ve had many compliments about this car.

Weakness:

After 50,000 miles, (when the extended warranty expires) there are many repairs!

I have 90,000+ miles on this car. My first problem began at 33,000 when the alternator went out. It was still under warranty, and the dealship replaced it for free. Everything was o.k until I hit 50,000 miles. Then it seemed that everything started going wrong with the car. My horn went out twice, the #1 and #2 fan control does NOT work,(fortunately #3 & #4 still works)needed a tune-up, needed new struts, my cooling light was going off at 70,000 miles, so I had it changed (should be good till 100,000 miles), fuel injectors are shot, replaced serpentine belt, new tires, 3 brake jobs, and a roter job later...and that''s about it!

Looks nice.

Weakness:

Costly mechanical problems.

I have owned the car for almost four years now and I''m having enormous problems. When the car heats up, it stalls where ever you are. When I put the car in park, it will start but as soon as I put the car in drive it stalls. I have to let the car cool for almost two hours before I can drive it again. However once I''m able to drive it, it''s only a matter of minutes before it stalls again. I just put $2,000 into the car and it''s still not fixed, it''s doing the same exact thing. There were several parts replaced, some i didn''t pay for due to errors on the garage. The headgasket, engine head cracked, catalitik converter, power control module, spark plugs, fuel filter and some minor adjustments. However after all that repairing the car seems to be running worse. Nobody seems to know what''s wrong with it or how to fix it. It''s totally unreliable.

Strength:

Drives great, handles beautifully, nice-looking car, good-sized gas tank, great cd player, lots of room considering car size. Rain-x works wonders on the windshield.

Weakness:

Somewhat lousy gas mileage

I bought this car about a month and a half ago. It had somewhat high mileage for a 2yr old car, 32,600. When I test drove it the engine was squeaking and there was a slight rattle in the dash when you hit potholes in the road. The dealership agreed to take care of it at no cost to me. The belt was replaced (that was the squeak) and they couldn''t figure out what the rattle was. I read on a website that mechanics have found it''s a normal problem in that model because it has a lower-end suspension. No big deal. Since I actually want to know where my car is coming from (unlike some of the people on here who are complaining about the car they bought at auction) I asked the dealership for the original title. Turns out my car was originally owned by a rental company in Orlando, FL. Good for me. Saturn also gave me an additional 4yr 48,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty on the car on top of the 32,000 already on it. Goes to show, where you buy the car from really does matter. I would never buy a car from a private owner or from an auction. You need things like service records and original titles before you can make a judgement on the manufacturer or the car itself. Problems so far - radio antenna SUCKS and it''s not amplified. CD player sounds and works great. Too many cupholders. Problems handling in the rain, but that''s not believed to be the car, but the tires. I think it drives well, handles great, and as far as speed goes, what can you expect from a 4cyl with 125HP?? It might look like a mini Firebird, but it''s definitely not. I changed the oil 2 weeks after I got it, use Mobil 1 Tri-synthetic 10W30, and won''t use anything else. My car runs so quiet I worry it stalled at red lights. As far as electrical problems go, I don''t have anything for power options, but most of the "electrical" problems I''ve read about on this site sound like problems with the alternator, NOT the wiring. Care information - change the oil every 3,000 miles, check the tire pressure every month, change air filter every other oil change, and get a tune-up every 30,000 miles, and you shouldn''t have any problems.
