Powerful engine, superb handling, great styling, etc.
Weakness:
Brakes. I had this car before I went into the service and have kicked myself daily for getting rid of it. It had every option available including the Heads-up display. For a four door sedan, this car turned heads. Maybe it was the dual exhaust ports. The only major problem I had with it was the brakes. It was in the shop more often for the brakes than anything. After I sold it, I recieved a notice from a lawfirm stating that it was filing a lawsuit for owners of 1993 Grand Prix's and Buick Regals due to faulty brake design. I am currently driving a Dodge Intrepid and although it's a great car, it doesn't have that "feel" to it. I notice that there are more Grand Prix Owners clubs out there, so I knew that I wasn't the only one who loved my car. I plan on trading the Intrepid in on a GTP soon. The options are killer, lumbar seats, radio controls on steering wheel, compass, computer read out that tells you how many mi left in gas tank, oil change, tuneup. Handles solidly and feels like you are in a very expensive car. The V6 is very peppy even for a 14 yr. old car.
Weakness:
alternator and electrical problems I bought this car back in 97 with 40000 mi on it. I have to say i was impressed with the comfort and options of this car. We have the bucket lumbar seats and they are the best i have had on a car. Although alot of the bells and whistles have needed to be fixed or replaced, i still enjoy them. We had to replace the alternator 3 times after buying the car. The power steering pump has been replaced 3 times. There is some kind of electrical prob with the turn signals (they don't work sometimes) and the whole LED dash went out, but just needed resodered. Replaced front and back struts. The vertical door handles are nice looking but not practical, we have replaced the driverside one twice. The retractable antennae broke and we replaced it with a regular one. I gotta say that dispite the minor repairs, this 89 still gets looks while driving it. It's still comfortable and handles better than my honda. When i finish paying off my 98 Honda Accord, i will be going back to a Grand Prix Similar Products Used: i bought a 98 Honda Accord and regret not getting another Grand Prix |

Initial good value Good performance, handling

Brakes Seals Alternator Bearings Engine cramped Parts surprisingly expensive Electrical glitches I purchased this car used with 3 yrs,70Km on it. For the first 4 years the car was great. Decent power, smooth shifting tranny, good handling, lots of accessories. Except for replacing the front brakes every 18 months and the rear ones every 24 months, nothing major to complain about. Then the bottom fell out. The alternator went at 135k. At 140k a seal went on the tranny causing complete fluid lose and burning the tranny. At 150k the bearing for the A/C compressor went. At 160k a rear wheel bearing assembly had to be replaced. My driveway resembles an oil field from all the leaks. I've spent almost $4000 in the past year keeping this car on the road, and I have a feeling that there is more to come. If you plan on buying this car, do not keep it for more than 7 years! Unfortunately the big 3 North American automakers are penny pinching and buying cheap parts to assemble their cars. Their only concern seems to be the initial build quality (and even that isn't great). If they can built a car that will go 300k without $1000 a year maintenance, then I'll but another one, but from now on I'm going Japanese! Similar Products Used: None |

Poor fit and finish. Cheap plastic interior. No light on auto-shift console. Should be! Unreliable fiber-optic dash lighting. Now at 50,650 miles. No problems have developed. Good daily driver. New set of Toyo Spectrum All-Weather ties. Engine, transmission excellent.3.l liter 175hp good enough for most circumstances. I have a bone feel this is a keeper. Only one problem at 26,000 miles (HVAV blower went belly up) but replaced under warranty. Generally, a reliable rattle free car. Must have been built on the right day of the week! You dont want me to start I hate this car. I will nerver buy another american made vehicle in my life. I had it two months and the back passenger window went out, in the middle of a rainstorm! Yes with a car load of kids. Six months and the radio controls start tearing up and air conditioning knobs get loose and evenually fall off, two of them. The car has a bad altenator at 11,000 miles leaving me with a dead battery at the mall. Transmission hisitates at 18,500 miles. Then my drivers side window goes out, at least it wasnt raining this time i was able to park it inside the garage until the next day. keyless entry starts tearing up my lights dont flash any more when i unlock the doors. Some other things too i have said enough, yes warrenty fixed them all but this is a brand new car it should not be tearing up already. And also terrable deprissiation the value of my car is horrable for the millage and year. But when i am not upside down on this car i am definantly trading it in if i ever get the payoff down enough and it still runs. My personal advice dont get a pontiac if u do, mabe it wont be a lemon. I think i am going to go with a honda accord v6 i hear they are really nice and they dont tear up!! I have never heard bad news on honda i think i will give the japenese some buisness.
