Strength:

Looks, stability, smooth cornering and driving

Weakness:

Noisy windows, Had to replace 2 intake gaskettes, headlights seam to burn out a little premature. The machanic said that the GM head gaskettes only last about 60K. That has been my only fustration.

I love this car. It drives great, looks sporty and has a quick engine. I've owned it from day on and do the oil/tires and easy maintence myself. I've got 132,000 miles on it and haven't had too much trouble until recently. I did have to replace 2 intake head gaskettes which was fustrating but other than that, its been a good car.

Strength:

Power, not a musclecar, but you can smoke alot of unsuspecting ricers at a stoplight. The 3800 is torquehappy off the line with almost no torque steer. Handling is above average. It rides very smooth without hindering cornering abilities. Style. Hands down on of the best looking midsizes on the market. It has a personality and "look at me" style, something not found in many other boring vanilla midsizes (malibu, accord, camry) yet is tasteful unlike some others (element, 04 maxima) Reliability, underrated as a reliable car. The 3.1L I had in my old grand prix went the distance with very little problems, the 3800 is known to be even more reliable. Fuel economy. I get 29 mpg in highway driving. Roomy interior. Enough space for 5 adults and a huge trunk to fit their luggage.

Weakness:

Some low budget looking interior materials. (The factory delco stereo is hidious looking, get an aftermarket CD player with red lighting) No manual option. Top speed limited to 110. (this will be fixed soon :) )

My last vehicle was a 93 grand prix that was running strong with 130,000 on the clock. Based on my pleasant experience, I traded it in for a used 2001 4 door Grand Prix GT. The first thing you notice about the car is its low, wide, aggressive appearance. Its black on black, with tinted windows. There is no cladding as found on the previous generation. Came equipped with power seating, leather covering on the steering wheel and floor shifter, GMs venerable 3800 engine, comfortable bucket seats, steering wheel controls, ABS, power windows, alloy rims, spoiler, and remote entry. After my trade in it was 9500 bucks. I recommend this car to anyone looking for a sporty sedan thats reliable, roomy, packs a good punch, handles well, and has a distinctive style and personality.

Plastic (Legoland) interior, only ONE heated seat, Duh! NO FOLD-DOWN rear seat, the flimsiest door panels x4 (sedan), A HUGE trunk with a small opening!

top-of-the-line model GTP is a blazingly quick high-perf. sport sedan that doesn't sacrifice cabin roominess & trunk space!

NICE LOOKING CAR, ITS A HEAD TURNER, NICE INTERIOR, JET FIGHTER DASH, NICE DUAL EXAUST SYSTEM, GOOD ACCELERATION, CONFORTABLE.

Weakness:

VERY POOR RELIABILITY, PAIN IN THE ASS ENGIN TO WORK ON, UNLIMITED REPAIRS, $$$$$$$$$, VERY POOR FUEL MILEAGE.

this car is great looking with the 3.4 dohc package but its a money pit.i had a lot of repairs to do: 4 alternators, oil drive 0-ring leak(must remove intake), power steering pump, shocks, ball joints, head gasket, egr valve, iac sensor, brake booster, flasher, electric fan, pads lasting 25 000 km in the front, strange noises coming from the power steering pump, stalling and weird idle. TIP: IF YOU DONT HAVE A LOT OF MONEY OR IF YOUR NOT A MECHANIC DONT BUY THIS CAR ITS A REAL PAIN IN THE ASS ENGIN, NO ROOM TO WORK, WHEN YOU GO TO THE GARAGE THE GUYS DONT KNOW THE ENGIN.

Strength:

Handling and acceleration.

Weakness:

Everything but handling and acceleration.

I can't believe all of the good reviews I have read on this site about this car. This is hands down the worst vehicle I have ever owned. In the past year alone I have forked out $1500 in repair costs. I have replaced 2 hedlamps, an oil pan gasket, 2 window motors, a master switch for the windows, a serpentine belt, an alternator, 3 batteries, and I'm sure there is more that I can't remember right now. Oh, and by the way my windows still only work when they feel like it.

Strength:

This car has LOTS of power. I bought it used and whoever had it before me did some mods like catback exhaust, magnaflow mufflers, 9" k&n cone filter, rims, etc. It will get up and go! Car handles very well and has a very comfortable and sleek-looking leather interior. Heads up display is a great convenience, you don't even have to look to see how fast you are going. The gtp is definitely the nicest grand prix model in my opinion.

Weakness:

I have had a couple of relatively minor problems with this car since it was purchased. A while back I noticed the engine temp. on the gauge was slightly above normal. This worried the heck out of me because my previous car (a 1993 3.8L v6 ford thunderbird) was ruined from overheating too much. After closer examination I found that the water pump was starting to go out. Luckily I caught it before it went out completely! One of the tensioner pulleys on the main serpentine belt went out while I was driving one night, this caused the belt to break and hit a power steering component. These are problems that could happen with any car, so I can't really hold it against this particular model. The only problem with this car that I would blame on the manufacturer would be the prolem i've had with the shift interlock device. my keys have been stuck in the ignition for over a month now and i have to stick an object like a pen or a key into the shift lock release button to get it into gear. Pontiac needs to look at this because I have gone on grand prix sites and other people have posted the same problem. Other than that this car is awesome!

This car was a steal at under 10,000! If you like fast cars like mustangs, camaros, etc. but don't want a gas guzzling v8, this is the car for you!

Power and accelleration Styling Handling HUD

Weakness:

Transmission reliability A/C reliability soundproofing

I have driven my GTP for 3 years now. I love the styling, and was sorry to see Pontiac drop the coupe in 2003. I have the "Gold Edition" with all the options, and it makes for a nice ride. Handling is good, acceleration is very strong, and interior comfort is better than average. Gas mileage is good (average 24.5 mpg), but it demands premium fuel. I have experienced problems with A/C drain backing up, and the transmission went out at 20K miles. I had to take it into the dealer 3 times before they could diagnose the problem. The dealer fixed the tranny, and provided a rental car, but it took almost 2 weeks. Since the repair, there is an annoying "bump" noise in the front suspension that the dealer can't seem to fix. All things considered, the repair experience has soured me on the vehicle, and I'm looking forward to returning it at lease end.

Strength:

great handling, when sound system is upgraded it has great accoustics on the inside, a uni-brow head light (haha)

Weakness:

brake calipers

At first I bought this car because I needed a way to work and needed the time to save up for a down payment on a new car. 18 months later I'm still driving it and don't have many thoughts on selling it. I've driven this car cross country (DC to LA roundtrip) twice, DC to Detroit countless times, ... let's just say in 2yrs I got nearly 35,000 miles on it. I've had a few problems but nothing major to the point it is unsafe or doesn't drive. The worst problem by far is the brake calipers. There was a lawsuit placed against GM for the 88-93 W-style cars and their brake calipers. The first time I took my car for a long drive (DC to Detroit) about half way one of my rear calipers locked up and wore the brake pads all the way down (metal to metal). I later found out this is because of that recall that GM only honored until 98. That was with a court order against them. You can buy a upgraded caliper with stainless steel pins that help the problems out a lot. Beside the brakes the only other real problems I had were oil leaks, stock radio is horrible, the power windows are slow and noisy, and the wind noise when you are on the highway is annoying. But when you compare this car ($1800 purchased + $48/month for insurance) or a new car ($300+/month car payment + $150+/month insurance) ... I like this car a lot better. I would recomend it to anyone that wants a reliable car.
