Excellent Power to weight ratio. Above average handling. Comfortable interior

Excellent overall car! The engine has performed flawless and is a joy to drive. The suspension isn't too stiff, but it can be easily modified to suit your taste. The only real problems have come from the electrical system. The altenator and the battery both failed prematurely. These were replaced and haven't been a problem since.

The car was originally purchased 1 yr old for 19,200. It is a '97 Dark Teal 4 door. Since it comes as a 2 dr, then more people can enjoy the looks of it. I would recommend this car to anyone who is interested in an american brand of a performance sedan/coupe.

Nice look & feel, handles great & has a lot of power. Fun car to drive, and has more room inside than you'd think.

Weakness:

Haven't found any yet.

Paid $20,440, think I got a deal. This is the first GM car I've owned that I couldn't find a thing to complain about.

Strength:

Surprising amount of power, but still get gets walked on by a GTP.
Very reliable. Never have to worry about it breaking.
Good gas mileage (even though I'd sacrifice that for more power)
The looks attract attention-the body style is awesome.
Comfortably seats four.
Solid- holds in 150-plus decibels without breaking windows and minimal leaking

Weakness:

Hard to find upgrade parts to increase horsepower other than intake and exhaust-actually, it seems impossible to find any aftermarket high performance parts, engine or otherwise.

I love this car. It looks sweet and stylish, it's comfortable, reliable, and it gets a lot of looks-(I had it painted yellow). It also corners quite well, even before I put 17s on it and lowered it 3 inches. Very spacious trunk, which became helpful when I loaded it with stereo equipment. The only problem I've had with it is a strut went out, but it wasn't a major fix.
The 3100 V6 has 160 horses, and I squeezed out some more with a high-flow K@N cone filter and a set of new mufflers to open up the exhaust. I still want more power, but it seems the only way to do that is to put a bigger engine in it, and I am willing to spend the money, but I can't find anyone to do that for me. I don't like the body style of the newer Grand Prixs as much as my car, otherwise I'd just go and buy one.

Strength:

-smooth ride (when it was brand new)
-good handling
-great excelleration
-cozy seats (front & back)
-ok cd player (will play burnt cds)
-lots of storage space

Weakness:

-guzzles gas!!!!
-unpredictable breaks
-cheap interior, ugly dash
-cup holders in a horrible location

This is a great car for families, & Pontiac lovers... but not for me
I would recommend a 99 grand am over a 99 grad prix anyday.

Strength:

While I bought the car for performance I was very happy with the comfort and stereo. Awesome highway cruiser!

Weakness:

Too much gray plastic. Brakes could have a better feel. Needs a passenger side seat heater like the Regal GS.

My choice for a midsize sport sedan based on performance, price, resale and ability to upgrade. I added the SLP GTX package with Ram-Air hood, exhaust and several other upgrades. The ability to add those performance upgrades was one of my reasons to buy the car. Got all the factory options which I enjoyed. HUD is great.

Wonderful - LOVE it

Weakness:

rear roof finish (interior) infinished where it meets winfshield (unfixed in all models)
read door interior falls off after only a 100 door closings
center console will cut you if you dont respect it

I Love the car, if GM just finished some really obvious faults, it would be a DREAM car - still the faults are minor to the driver

Strength:

3.1 V6 is fast and has jump to it, It had to be replaced after 125,000 miles. (had a rough life i think) tranny also was replaced. steering and braking are excellent and there is minimal road noise. the bucket seats are very comfortable and the drivers side is power. The back seat is just as comfortable and roomy and there is tonnes of trunk space. it is overall a good looking car

Weakness:

squeeks and rattles on rough roads, trunk will not open with key (have to used button) wiper controls often dont work the way they should. Seat belt mechanism always sticks!!! Sometimes i cannot get the drivers side seatbelt on. Power locks are sticky. Lately it has stalled (automatic transmission)

Very nice looking car, fast and reliable in the winter. I cannot be to critical about its flaws b/c it is only from abuse. if the car was mine since it was new it would be in in mint condition. Although the miles are high in it i'm sure if you found the right one with high miles it would work just great as long as it has been treated well

i haven't tested many others in its class, but i know it was one of the best from the early 1990's. It sure is a step up from my 1980 Pontiac Parisienne Brougham...haha

Strength:

Reliable, good acceleration, good gas mileage, roomy, stylish, great sound system

Weakness:

Squeaky dash

Great car! I got this car brand new off the lot in December of 1997. It has the premium sound system, 12-disc CD changer, premium lighting, rear deck spoiler, alarm w/remote, steering wheel stereo controls, and 6-way power driver's seat. The car has great acceleration and has always gotten about 30 mpg highway and 22 mpg city. The premium sound system is fantastic and the disc changer never skips. The car has always started even with -40 degree wind chills in winter. I've used Mobil 1 motor oil since shortly after I bought the car and have had oil changes about every 4,000 miles. It currently has 52,400 miles and is still as quiet, powerful, and efficient as it was when I bought it. Whenever friends and family sit in the back, they are shocked at how comfortable and roomy the rear seats are (especially since it's a 2-door). Overall, this car has been very good to me. I've thought about selling it and getting a pickup but I'm having a difficult time convincing myself to part with it. I'm confident that it would drive well past 100,000 miles without many problems....the 3800 Series II engines are excellent! So if you want a good car for the money, look into the Grand Prix GT. I'm sure you'll fall in love with both its looks and performance!

Strength:

BEAUTIFUL CAR!
Good power for a V6.
Love the HUD and the other goodies.

Weakness:

Need a degree in Engineering to work on it.
Some yoyo put the alternater at the bottom of the engine.
Cheap plastic parts on the interior.
Side mounted engine. The designer never had to change the plugs in this thing.

I purchased the GTP cause I fell in love with the body lines. After driving it for a week I was ready to sleep in it. This is absoluty the most fun I have had in a car. There are some issues that Pontiac had to fix on it. A poor electrical system has been the bane of this model. I have had to replace the alternater and had a quite a few electrical phantoms until I spent time with a multimeter finding them. Brakes are another issue, THEY DON"T LAST! Performance parts are hard to find, but they are out there. This car enjoys corners and squats right down for them. I have a 90 degree corner that I take at 45mph and have had it up to 60mph before the front end broke loose. Acceleration is very nice and I have enjoyed some neck snapping starts with it. It is not quite were I like it, but it's not supercharged (YET!). It has a nice Heads Up Display (HUD) that reads higher than the speedometer on the dash. This I confirmed with BMW on my tail. This is a great fun car and it is a head turner when you keep it clean. I still get positive remarks by people for it.
