Strength:

-Excellent handling
-Very responsive engine
-very comfortable
-decent MPG
-very reliable
-aggressive styling

Weakness:

-stock stereo system
-minor annoyances(once in a while wipers stop at wrong position, etc)

I feel that for the money, Grand Prix is an excellent vehicle. I would definately recommend this vehicle. I would purchase a new Grand Prix with the minimum of the GT trim. Great car that has been very reliable. No major problems.

Strength:

Acceleration, Interior Room, Options: especially Heads up Display, Heated Seat, and Steering Wheel Radio Controls.

Weakness:

Needs Premium Unleaded Fuel. The Interior could be of better quality, but no parts rattle or make noise at all except for on dirt roads.

My GTP has EVERY option that was offered in 1998 so I could comment on what I enjoy about this car for a while. However, I will try to hit the options and abilities I like best. First off, it is an absolute blast to drive. It has minimal body lean it tight turns, and extremely fast acceleration for a Mid-size four door sedan. Off the line it can overtake a V6 Mustang, Camaro, or Firebird due in part to its 280 lbs. of Torque. Against a Trans-Am however it has you wishing for more power. However, seeing as the Trans-Am is more expensive, costs an arm and a leg for insurance, and the back seat is just about non-existant I happen to prefer the GTP. It is the best of all worlds: Relatively low retail price for what is received, tons of speed (GT and GTP versions), and almost as much room as some full size cars (The 2000 Pontiac Boneville being among them.) Excellent comfort for all occupants. Plus, if you opt for the Heads-up Display and the steering wheel radio controls you truly never have to take your eyes off the road, a great mark of safety. As a personal opinion the 4 door version looks better than the 2 door and it's only a couple hundred dollars more to purchase. Plus due to the doors being much shorter it is easier to enter and exit the car in a parking lot or other tight space. The only problem I have had with my GTP so far relates to the interior construction. Specifically, the Glove Box light did not go out when shut because the construction was not sealed tightly enough. I didn't feel like waiting for a dealer to fix it so I simply put a 1/4" rubber pad sticker in the glove box where the spring mechanism for the light is. It works fine. And that problem hardly effects my opinion of the car. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys creature comforts along with their on-road performance. Primarily in the age range of 20's through 40's. I happen to be 23.

Strength:

- The 215hp 3.4L DOHC V-6 engine has great acceleration and power.
- Nice smooth ride especially at high speeds.
- Very roomy.
- Handles well.
- nice sporty styling.
- Nice big tires

Weakness:

- Need to put on Quality brakes and pads or else they will go quickly.
- Not that good for gas mileage.
- Seems everything under the hood is hard to get at. (Battery is hard to get out. Alternator is way underneath the car.)
- Headlights need to be brighter.
- Stock rims oxidized and are ugly.

I paid $9500 for my 94 Grand Prix GTP it had 39,000 miles and the body and interior was mint. It also came with every option avalible. THe stock sound system is incredible compared to any other stock systems I've heard. I also love this car because it is very rare I haven't seen that many of them. This car is probably the absolute best you can get for the money, It gives you a bit of everything. Acceleration, room, handling, and its a nice and smooth ride.

*Handles better than all, about even with the Firebird.
*Way better acceleration than everything, except the firebird of coarse.

Strength:

Great Styling (even after four model years)
Good Acceleration (even without supercharger)
Incredible room in back for the coupe (real adults fit)
Decent gas mileage

Weakness:

Lackluster reliability & build quality
low resale value
Worst dealer service I have ever seen

I purchased my 1997 GP GT for $19,000 brand new. and have been fairly happy with it. It has had two recurring problems 1)water leaking in trunk (took five trips to dealer to fix, turned out to be a leaking back window, fixed mid 97) 2)condensation in headlights after several trips to the dealer and several sets of headlight housings I pulled the fuse for the daytime running lights (fuse panel marked DRL) and have not had any problems with condensation since.

My 97 has logged 49000 miles and except for squeeks and rattles still runs and rides great.

Even with the few problems, I liked the car enough to go and buy a second one, a 2000 Grand Prix GT four-door (I paid 22000 with more a couple more options than my coupe). This car is now six months old with 6000 miles and no problems.

If you have owned japenese cars before you will be disappointed with the reliability but it is on par with other GM and Ford products and probably better than anything Chrysler makes.

I feel positive enough on the car to own two of them.

For the price you will not find a car with more comfort, performance, or looks

Loaded with options and power everything (options). Sharp looking car with pretty good power. For a '91 it is running excellent and it has 74,000 miles on it and I bought it with 59,000. 3.1 L V-6 DOHC.

Weakness:

Alternator had gone out a couple months back, I had that replaced along with the battery and it has been perfect since. A few squeaks will come out on rough roadways. Excellent gas mileage on highway but TERRIBLE in town.

Used: $6800. From original dealership. This car has been wonderful but I know it overall has gotten a moderate to good review from KB. I recommend it highly, I happened to stumble upon a great buy: Power everything (even antenna), all leather bucket seats, 8-way power seats, 10-disc add-on Sony CD-Changer, navigation/info console, Heads Up Display, Full cluster gauges, and rumble exhaust pack, etc.

Strength:

Awsome acceleration from any speed to any speed. Very safe! Great Looks. Comfortable. Lots and lots of useful features

Weakness:

Needs stronger headlights.

Nothing, for the price (paid ~$24K with 1 SC package), comes remotely close to how good this car is. My first GTP was hit broadside by someone who was doing about 50 MPH and ran a redlight. He was in a late model Acura Integra and landed in the hospital. I walked away without a scratch. I was so amazed, I went out and bought another one with the insurance check.

I love the steering feel (magnasteer), the growl of the engine, the unbelievable acceleration, comfort, stereo, heated seat, HUD, self dimming mirror, dual climate control. Drive train is proven to be bulletproof. Engine has been proven and refined for many years. Good brakes (no fade). Transmission is the best I have found on any car at any price. It seems to read my mind as to what gear I want to be in.

I looked and looked and looked and couldn't find a better car for the money.

No squeaks, rattles, no trips to the dealer in either one of the Grand Prix.

Strength:

Great performance, handling and even has real back seat big enough for adults. Fun to drive and can be driven all year round in PA.

Weakness:

Headlights and the sound system could use a boost of energy.

We bought it as a GTP with 2400 miles for $22,400.Two months later it was converted to GTX and we love it. We only have 16,000 miles on it so far and We are very pleased with our purchase. If your looking for a car with room for friends,
front drive for bad weather, and great performance to boot you can't beat the Grand Prix GTP. Go with the GTX if you want something a little different.

The fact that it has lots of room inside and a trunk is pure bonus.
I purchased it fully loaded so it gives me all the luxury and toys I could possibly want.

so I have not found any weaknesses yet.

I would recommend this car without hesitation,

Model Reviewed: Grand Prix SE

Strength:

Good looks, powerful engine, transmission shifts smoothly, roomy.

Weakness:

Overall build quality.

At first I was very happy with my 1997 Grand Prix. I had an SE loaded with every option except a moon roof and heads up display.

I had to take the car in several times under warranty. Problems ranged from two window seals needing replaced, back deck pulling away from rear window, gas gauge not reading properly (in four times for this one), front headlight lens falling off, front passenger door panel falling off, etc.

The vast majority of miles (90%)on my Grand Prix were interstate miles and all maintenance was religiously kept up to date. At 48,000 miles my add coolant light kept coming on. I took it in to the dealership and was told the water pump needed replaced ($300) and was told the oil pan, power steering pump, and power steering high pressure hose were also all leaking. A lot of good 150,000 mile, 5 year Dexcool antifreeze does when one needs a new water pump at 48,000 miles!

I was fed up with the constant little problems and the new big problems I had with this vehicle and lost all confidence with the product. The next day I traded the Grand Prix on a 2000 Maxima SE with no regrets. I was never a big fan of GM and thought their quality control was terrible. After reading about the new Grand Prix and looking it over a dozen times I thought the quality control issue was fixed. I was sadly mistaken. Maybe I just got a lemon. I hope others don't have the same problems I encountered.
