Strength:

Looks great, handles very well, quiet ride, great acceleration (240hp and 28ft/lbs of torque!), 5 star spoke wheels are easy to clean and look great, dual exhaust with nice V-8 sounding rumble, comfortable seats both front and rear (lots of leg room), spacious trunk, GM's roadside assistance, low cost maintenance and a great warranty, BOSE Premium sound (Year 200 version only) is fantastic and very loud!

Weakness:

Horrible on gas and it drinks 92 Octane to add insult to injury (18 mpg/city, 23 mpg/hwy). Why is only the driver's seat heated? Why can't you get power controls for the passenger seat? The lumbar support in the driver's seat doesn't adjust enough to be effective. Needs a graphic equalizer for the stereo (not an option if you get the Bose Premium sound kit). 17 inch wheels (like on the Bonneville) would have been a nice compliment.

$30,000 (CDN)Rumour has it the 2001 version will have dual heated seats and 17 inch wheels. I would wait to see before I'd buy a 2000 model. Great car for the money. We looked at a 2000 Maxima, 2000 3.2 Acura TL but the Pontiac was hands down the best performer and for about $4000 less.

A very sharp and appealing car both inside and out.

Weakness:

No real weaknesses.

$22,000 is the price paid. Yes I would and do recommend the Grand Prix.
It is comfortable, classy & offers good performance. This is my first Pontiac but it may not be my last. If driving a car that just might turn a few heads or be an attention getter is what you want, then the Grand Prix could be for you.

Strength:

Very happy with the low-end torque of the 3.8 V6. Accelerates smoothly and quickly, while a little lackluster up top. It's obvious that the GTP with supercharger fills the upper-revs where mine tapers off. Great transmission (wish it had a slapstick shifter like the ol' late 60-early 70 Pontiac GTOs, etc.). I quick-detail it almost every night, and the Bright Red paint looks almost new after 18 mos. Layout and ergonomics of the interior are nice, though a little cheapy. The leather's not Mercedes-grade, but hey, worth it for a measly $475 option. 6-speaker stereo is pretty good. Exterior, well, it's beautiful... what else can I say!

Weakness:

Only problem is a flaky LCD on the CD/radio readout. Gas mileage is marginal (guess I'm enjoying those 200 horses a little!)

Overall, after 12000 miles, the car is virtually flawless. This is the nicest car I've ever had, but it's the most expensive too. Bought it new in 1999 with the GM discount ($23,300 MSRP, got mine for $19,200 + tax/lic using the GM discount and GM card earnings). At that price, and unbelievable value and a pretty good value at near MSRP

An unmitigated FORD HATER, I thoroughly enjoy giving my buds in there silly elliptical Ford Taurus nightmares a prideful smirk and snicker! By the way check out the Taurus reviews... I'm being backed up strongly by all those poor saps that had nothing better to do with their hard-earned money!

Strength:

Quick
Good pickup
Heads up display
sharpe looking exterior design

Weakness:

Drivers Seat extreemly uncomfortable, have the leather interior but only 4 way power seat w/no lumbar support, coach airline seats are more comfortable then the ones in my Grand Prix

Ceiling is loose down bout an inch and a half from roof.

Bose Stereo System is a joke, dont get it, waste of money

Car constantly pulls to the left when accelerating, but mysteriously dealer doesnt think so

Headlights seem weak

Trip computer is useless, you have to manually reset it to figure gas range and mileage

Gas mileage coming in round 18 MPG or so the "Trip Computer" says

Paid 22,800. I would NOT recommend this car to anyone that has owned a Dodge Intrepid. Intrepids may have their problems but they are comfortable well thought out full feature cars.

If you are a first time buyer and need a ride for short trips to and from work (6 miles or less) This car will work nicely, you will look GREAT and be to your destination before your back starts killing you.

Strength:

Acceleration, tires, and room. That's it.

Weakness:

Hate the tacked on plastic molding, hate the interior, the instramentation, poorly built, bad paint, looks very dated very fast.

I see a lot of these on the road, so I assume someone likes them. The coupes are much more attractive than the four door. Pontiac has never been in my mind the top of the GM food chain. Definatley not a good car for long term drivers. I'd suggest something more along the lines of the Buick Riviera which pulls the same kinds of performance numbers, with a bit more style, and reliability.

Strength:

3.8 Has good power. Styling is attractive for a relatively inexpensive car.
Plenty of room for kids and business/recreation gear.

Weakness:

Faint squeeks from hard to locate places. Nose is less attractive than GT/GTP.

I bought this car used a few weeks ago. A 1999 SE with alloys, spoiler, Red Paint, cloth seats, power seat and windows/doors. Paid 13,999! A good price...I think. However, it does have a bunch of Miles@40k.
So far I can recommend due to better than average power and looks. When compared to the 97 Maxima, the GP it has similar power, but needs a firmer pedal push to kick the automatic into the right gear for takeoff. The Maxima was less stylish, in fact plain by comparison, but shifted better, felt lighter but did not ride as well.
There is a difference in quality when compared to Japanese models. I can hear the road noise and wind on the windsheild in this car, but not while driving a Maxima or my wife's 2000 Outback. The GP is much more "American"...More looks and style but less overall quality. The GP is a great choice for the price though....

Strength:

Great Acceleration -I still want to change that supercharger pulley though!
HUD - Cant live without it.
Handling is pretty good for a bigger car.
BOSE sound system is not bad. But I expected more.
Great for stomping those so called 'performance' compact cars at the light.

Weakness:

Torque steer - Only at full throttle, of course
Tires can be spun too easily, they also could be bigger and wider.
Rough ride over bumpy roads - (The roads here in Ohio stink)
110 MPH Speedometer - Yes, I know the hud goes higher. But its cool for looks. Hey the 99' & up GA GT's have 150 speedos!
Structural rigidy could be a bit better
Drinks premium gas like a whino.

I like this car alot! The main thing that attracted me to it was the GTP version with 240 ponies, dual climate control, BOSE system, HUD, real dual exhaust, alot more leg room, no body cladding (shame shame, Grand AM).
I originally looked at a Ram Air Trans AM with the WS6 package. But more than I wanted to spend and compromised with the GTP. I was also suprised on the insurance costs were much cheaper than the Grand AM.

It is comfortable and roomy to ride in, especially if your single. I think we all know why that dual climate control was invented, dont we fellas.

Anyways, if you want even more punch when you step on the pedal, get that pully changed to 3/4, and a K&N air filter. You will notice a huge difference, and probally wont think twice when taking on most cars at the stop light. Push that baby up to about 275 horses. That would only cost you about $140.00 if you do it yourself. Which I dont recommend, since I am not a mechanic.

Though I felt I may have made one mistake, looks like Pontiac is gearing up to re-design this car for 2001, probally more like the Bonneville and Grand AM put together. Here are the hints: SunFire, Grand AM, & BOnneville have cornering lamps, GP does not. Those cars have been re-styled recently, GP remains the same. Those cars have had interior redesigns too the GP has not.

Overall it is a great car for the money and the GTP is a hard to beat value. Especially if you get a GM discount. :)

P.S. If you have a GTP, step on the gas everytime you get the chance especially if you lease it. But if you are 60, or never drive over 60 this car is not for you. And if you get more than 15,000 miles out of those tires, you should be punished with a '76 Pinto. Please send any replys to GTPSpeedster@cs.com. All input will be appriciated.

Strength:

-Great Handling
-Very Responsive steering and braking
-Fun to drive
-Safe
-Good looking body style
-Powerful engine
-Big trunk
-Great sound system

Weakness:

-Expensive to fix
-Front bumper drags on every curb
-Isn't the most comfortable riding car

I have a 2 door 1997 Grand Prix GTP it came with
- a 3.8L supercharged V6
- keyless start,entry & alarm
- leather seats
- premium Bose stero,CD player
- power everything
- head up diplay
- radio controls are on the steering wheel (the best option if you ask me)
- automatic lights & self tenting rear view mirror
- 2 shifting patterns regular & preformace
Grand Prix's retail from around $16,000 to $25,000 depending on the model. I paid $13,000 for mine.
- If you're looking into a grand prix I would buy one if the following don't bother you. They aren't great on gas mileage in town 24mpg and on the highway 36-40mpg. They don't have the feeling like you're riding on air but it isn't something I notice regularly. If you live on rock roads please don't buy this car a truck would be better. (I drove 20+miles a day and hated seeing it be beat around like that) For me the worst thing about the Grand Prix is it drags. They're so close to the ground the front drags on the curbs and speed bumps.
- I would get the 4 door if you have kids. The 2 doors aren't that bad beacause of the sliding seats but still aren't fun to get in and out of.
- If you're looking for something fun, fast and sporty go for a grand prix. When shopping for this car I test drove over 300 makes and models of cars and I chose a Grand Prix over all of them. When I shopped I looked for safety, handling, sporty looking, options and room. Over all the Grand Prix did it for me. If you bought one I would bet my boots that you would love yours just like I love mine.

Strength:

Everything from the exterior shiny paint to the nice leather interior bucket seats are excellent. The heads-up display is a nice feature and wish that more vehicles had it.

Weakness:

The drivers seat doesn't easily slide forward in the coupe like the pasenger's seat does. When riding in the back seat of the coupe, the seat belts are hard to re-position to easily get out.

This is an excellent car. I have been driving it since April 2000 and have 5,500 miles on it without any problems. It is an excellent value for all the features it offers.

Beautiful body and color. I like having the stereo in the steering wheel, and the speaker quality is excellent.

Weakness:

I agree with alot of others listed on this site, the dealer and service is terrible. I think most everything wrong with the car they did so I would have to fix it. 6 months ago my car started over heating so I took it a couple places..they'd put water in it and send me on my way. Well I ended up having to replace the engine at 93,000 miles and only owning it for 3 years...not to mention the fact I still owe 5,000 on it so I can't trade it. The engine cost me $3,000. That was Valentines 2000, now today I was told I needed the transmittion rebuilt. GREAT!!!! another $2,300...
I could have bought a new car for what I have put into this one. Yes I am a little bitter towards Grand Prix's now.

I paid for it used.. with one owner before me at 18,000 miles. It was a great car until it hit the 100,000 mile range. I think they fix them that way. I paid 12,100 for my car, but in the last 6 months I have forked out for brakes, tires, altenator, new motor and now the transmittion coming to about 7 or 8 thousand dollars. Like I said before...could of just got a new car. Now I want a Crysler Sebring. I've checked them out and they have good ratings.
