Strength:

what i like best about it is the nice radio...great handling...good looks..good gas mileage 21/28....overall quality of the body and interior(alot better than the 97 gp)and its also fun to drive

Weakness:

the altenator...several oil leaks...squeaky windows...the $100 keyless entry switch that quit. A mysterious jerking and vibrating that the mechanics can not fix. The car refuses to mess up when it is in the shop

Overall, my 1993 grand prix has been a dependable car. It has had only few problems in the eight years that i have owned it. What i like most about the car is its looks. It is a two door se model with the gtp ground effects package that was an option until 94. The paint has held up well except for the plastic ground effects that dont dent but get many rock chips on them that makes the car look old. They had to be repainted last year and it made the car look new. I have had to have the altenator rebuilt two times, every 30,000 miles, it has 87000 on it now. The altenator is going good but i am saving my money for when the car hits 90,000.

my first car was a 1984 grand prix...the 84 had problems of its own(due to age) but looked great...and could still turn heads at 14 years old..many more than the 93...but the 93 was new and flashy so i decided to trade..the body of the 84 was much more sturdy..there was more chrome and heavier metal

Strength:

Looks good, nice easy maintenance leather interior, comfortable ride, built-in stereo and cruise control in steering wheel is convenient.

Weakness:

dependability, price, resale value, poor assembly.

I would not recommend a GM car to anyone after my experience with this one. I had the car in the shop about 5 times within the first year and a half. I have been stranded 2 times. Once on a deserted 2 lane road in the middle of knowwhere. It was getting dark and snowing, and my car just went dead. Nothing worked. This was a serious safety hazard without lights. Luckily, within about 10 minutes, a sheriff happened to pop up over the hill. My car was in the shop for over 2 weeks that time. I won't even go into the hassles I delt with trying to get them to pay for the rental car expense. Now I am upside down in money but researching extensively so I can hopefully get a reliable vehicle soooooon!!!!! UNION YES??????

Strength:

Power (Supercharged)
HUD (heads up display)
Style
Dual climate control (marriage saver!)
BOSE system
Easily modified

Weakness:

Interior looks a bit plasticy.

Wow! is the best word to discribe this car. It is a real sleeper--it's stylish, but doesn't look like your typical muscle car. It has the functionality of a Sedan (4 doors), good amount of interior space, full featured, decent insurance rates.

But...the car does 0-60 in 6.6 sec. stock; I've invested about $1000 in modifications (smaller SC pulley, Cold Air induction system, exhaust, along with smaller improvements), and I'm down to 0-60 of 5.5 sec. The best part, in my opinion, is that it doesn't LOOK that fast. Sort of a poor man's version of Audi S4. Excellent value!!

This car is great for someone like me, who enjoys driving, likes fast car, on a limited budget, and needs the rear seats. Also, all Grand Prix as automatics so if you drive in stop and go traffic, it's much less tiring.

Highly recommended!

Weakness:

Tall 60 series tires diminish handling ability
Poorly designed brake system

Outstanding value for the price. I paid 7000 and got the car with around 70,000 all highway miles from a close friend. I had cheap tires on which I quickly replaced with Michelin Pilots. Made a huge difference in the cars overall "feel". Pontiac should put 17 inch rims on these cars. The 225/60/16 is to tall of a tire. Very pleased with reliabilty; I commute to college and put on 70 miles daily and the care hasn't missed a beat. I added a two amp stereo system and the electric system handled it great. I also added tint and flowmaster exhaust. Changing the plugs is time consuming but not difficult. After putting over 50,000 miles on the car I am a huge believer in GM's dedication to quality. The paint is holding up incredibly well (Wisconsin winters aren't the kindest). There is no rust on the car except for on the stock piece of exhaust pipe from the cat to the mufflers. I love the car and definatley recommend it to all.

Strength:

Looks good, decent power and gas mileage with 3.1L. Pretty good Delco sound system. Roomy and comfortable with a big trunk. Car is great for road trips.

Weakness:

Brakes are noisy, and spongey at times. Squeaks and rattles.
Dealer service could be better. Engine is really stuffed under the hood - can't even get to battery to jump start another car.

I found this one with 14,000 miles on it. Now it has 37,000. There have been some minor problems, and I wish it had better brakes, but overall I'm happy with it. It usually gets around 19 mpg in the city, and 29 or 30 highway. The GTP model with the 3.4L is not much faster off the line, but it has a more powerful top end.
It's great car for couples with small children or single people. I've received a number of compliments on my GP. If you find one with low miles at a good price, give it a shot. However you may want to consider an extended warranty. Make sure you get a good deal on it.

Strength:

Sharp looking car. 3.1 engine more reliable than 3.4. Have had excellent mechanical reliability. Seems to vary from owner to owner, though. I like the interior controls. The power is average, but holds very steady on the highway. Seats are comfortable. Corners very good. Red display looks cool at night.

Weakness:

Breaks tend to wear quickly. Plastic armrest in center breaks, common problem. I repaired mine using pvc pipe sealant, and worked great, it fuses the plastic back together. Headlights are expensive, about 30 dollars each.

Good looks, average power, good interior. 95-96 models have distinct body style.

Similar Products Used:

Drove the GTP model with the 3.4, and not as fast, but less mechanical problems than the 3.4. Olds Intrigue is a little faster, but doesn't look as good. The newer Grand Prix's have the 3800, which is more powerful. It depends which body style you like better.

Strength:

- Strong, quiet, fuel efficient engine
- Great looking coupe or sedan
- Good handling, quick steering and firm brakes

Weakness:

- Poor Headlight Design (prone to moisture leaks)
- Too much plastic, poor quality too.
-

I bought my Grand Prix GT Sedan (Bright Red) off the dealer's lot in 1998. Since then, I logged 92,000 Km (57,500 miles) on it. The 3800 Series II engine is probably one of the best engines GM has ever made. It's fuel efficient, quiet and torquey (especially at around town speeds, but still has some kick on the highway)..strong acceleration. I still like the looks of the car 3yrs after I bought it, Wide, Low and Sleek. No mechanical problems at all.

But,Headlights are a problem on 1997,1998 GPs. They get moisture in them. 99 and up have much better sealing to them. The quality of plastic could be better and maybe a little less of it too.

But, that's it.. I would buy another one.

:)
