Weakness:
CRACKED HEADS, BLOWN HEAD GASKETS , BAD BREAKS. The car has been a good car up until 2000 when we had to take it into the dealership for a cracked head. This was a factory recall problem and GM agreed to pay half. Here it is 2005 and guess what the head has cracked again and this time ITS GUNKY and the coolant has seeped into the oil. The whole job is going to cost 3,000 plus. It looks like someone has poured honey djon musturd in the oil . Really Nasty!!! The dealership is suggesting because its so GUNKY just drop a new motor in .. We have had problems but nothing like this where repairs are concerned. The sad part of this story is that the car has had regular scheduled maintence and was never negelected or abused.. Similar Products Used: FOREIGN CAR, DOMESTIC SUV |

Looks and great sound system.
Weakness:
Head gaskette leaks after a couple of years, brake pads....let me hope nothing else goes wrong. I thought this was going to be a great car when I first bought it. However, don't judge a car by it's looks. Now that I'm done with my payments, it seems like a whole ton of things are going wrong. I had it into the shop a couple of weeks ago and now I have to take it back for a different problem. They keep telling me that this is a common problem for this car. Now it has 54,000 miles on it and my problems are only covered under 30,000. Well, now I need a new head gaskette. This one is leaking onto my engine. My car is not even 3 years old. I'm so frustrated with this car! A couple of weeks ago, I just had to get new brake pads and the caliper wasn't releasing. Similar Products Used: None. |

But get this, two months ago my 17 year old son said he hit a rock in the road (more like a boulder)put hole in transmission cover and oil pan, cracked bellhousing, mangled transmission coolant line and drove until it was out of transmission fluid and would not move. We replaced the covers and line, filled with fluid and hoped for the best. TRANSMISSION DID NOT BURN UP!!! Runs and shifts great. Goes through the snow like a 4x4 and handles great in hard rain.
Weakness:
Front end completely wore out at 90K, quad4 very had to work on. I bought this car in 1998 with 24K miles, now has 120K.Has been fairly dependable. Alternator at 75K. Hard on front brakes. Water pump at 105K, mechanic grimaced when told it had the quad4 motor, $600 to replace because they had to tear half the motor apart to get to water pump. ETS and check engine light comes on then goes off, changed oxygen sensor seemed to help for awhile but started again. Overall has been a good car and pretty dependable. Motor, not very well built. Sits to low to the ground. OMG!!! I truely loved the look of these cars. They were sporty looking but, family motivated. Until, I try to use my air conditioner. I took out a extended warrenty so I decieded to take it to be looked at. I ended up paying 1200.$ out of pocket to be fixed. Everything from gaskets being replaced to replacing injectors. And those is the major things. There were several other things that needed work on. Windshield isn't rounded out. My wipers hit and miss spots. Similar Products Used: Ford mustang, 1998 Grand am gt |

Leg Room and lowness to the ground. I have to get my "Splash Guard" replaced already. (However it wasnt my fault! :) ) I love this car. It had a V6 3400 engine. It moves right along with any other vehicle on the road. It handles well. Despite the reviews I have read I really think this car is going to turn out well. The interior of the car is very nice. I would like a little more space but what can you do? I didnt buy the 2002 Grand Prix. But that is another story another time. I will see how this car will play out as I run more miles on it and move down the road. Later slow pokes! EVERYTHING!!! Horrible car, have had 3 year, had in the shop about 10 times, 6 times for both side windows breaking numerous times, twice for CD player broke, now at 39,000 miles (no longer under warranty) vehicle is at mechanics, and GM will not pay for the problem that is going to cost us about $2,000 parts & labor. The drive chain broke and dented some valves. GM said not their problem because warranty is up, very uncooperative taking vehicle in when vehicle was still under warranty, have two pages of repairs since we have had the vehicle, do not buy this vehicle, BEWARE, we have contacted a lemon law in reference to these numerous repairs, and they seem like we will be able to win our case, and get some of our money back, will get rid of car after all these problems!! Not too many.
Weakness:
Inferior product. Too many repairs. We will never purchase a Pontiac product again. At 50,000 miles we have to have a new Intake Manifold Gasket installed at the cost of $600.00. GM knows about this defective part and has created a new gasket, one that won't "melt". So why isn't there a recall? |

Nice looking, no major replacements, fairly manageable to work on it yourself.
Weakness:
I have talked to other Grand Am owners and they all say the same thing...at least one of their windows continuously pops out of the track. Service engine light has come on for years and then goes off...no one can tell me why. I own a '94 Pontiac Grand Am SE V6.This car has been one of the best vehicles I have owned. I purchased it when it had 59,000 miles on it and now it has well over 150,000. I have had to do only one major repair on it and that was to rebuild the transmission. There have been several minor repairs, but that is to be expected. |

Weakness:
-Durability (transmission @165km) -quality (warrenty): 2 fuel injectors plugged , engine eltrical problem, wheel bearings @100k -depreciation Bought the car for it's go fast looks, reasonable performance, and price. The car delivered adequate performance, average reliability, good fuel mileage. I enjoyed driving the car, drove from new to 165,000km. At that point with mostly highway and "spirited" excitement, I felt I needed to get rid of the car as a result of the of a fading torque converter. Ride and suspension was more geared towards "sport", which became noticable on rough roads. Overall a somewhat entertaining coupe, but considering the expected lifetime (mileage), maintenance, and depreciation an expensive car to operate for the long term.
