brakes, transmission, fuel system, electrical fuses I've had this car for almost five years now and have had nothing but problems with it. Within the first two months I bought it, the fuel system had to be replaced (I had to take it into the dealer 7 times before they could figure that out). The brakes had to be replaced after a year and a half, and now I might have to have them replaced AGAIN! For a year now, from time to time, the car jerks when it changes from first to second (automatic) which a mechanic claims that it is an electrical problem but I think it's a transmission problem. My sunroof wouldn't close a couple months ago and I had to get that fixed. My "ABS", "Trac off", and "Service Vehicle Soon" lights are all on and won't turn off...which means next emissions test, it'll probably fail.

everything I had traded my 1997 Dodge Ram in for my 2005 grand am (biggest mistake ever) my mom had recently purchased a 2005 grand am as well and i drover hers and loved it so i went to go buy mine and found a charcoal color (love it) and scooped it up it had 22,090 miles when i bought it a week later it had to go to the shop. it has been there 9 times in three months. It has had tons of issues from trani work to fuel system, dash replacement, seat replacement steering problems window seal, you name it it has had to be repaired the car is still having problems the GM rep. is coming to look at it (hopefully buy it back) I HATE THIS CAR Similar Products Used: 1998 Dodge Stratus

fast, gas mileage, big enough for a 6 foot person to fit comfortable
Weakness:
not fast enough My dad originally owned this car but after my sister wrecked my Bonneville, I inherited it. It drives nice but as a young teenage boy it could use some more power. I have the SE (i guess) the 3.4 V6, it moves, but not fast enough. It is relatively fuel effecient, depending on your driving. It is a great car, but i would like morem power out of it. None yet It hasn't been very long, but I LOVE MY NEW CAR!!!!!! I love the room, as well as the power. The backseat has quite a bit of room, considering the size of the vehicle. The fact that it is a sedan and drives like a sports car is a plus! Similar Products Used: 1975 Mercury Bobcat 1983 Chev Silverado 1982 Chevette 1992 Ford Taurus |

Brakes I love my new Grand Am. I recently got into an accident in my 2004 Grand Am where a jerk in a Jeep Cherokee cut me off and totalled my beautiful car. I rarely had any problems with it. It of course was under warranty but never saw the inside of any garage except to get her oil changed once. The only stipulation with my love for the car was the brakes. They liked to squeak or screech(whichever you prefer) from time to time. We had it checked when we got it's oil changed but they were brand new brakes. Other than that, my old Grand Am was amazing. Drove perfectly. Had great handling. A great teenager car which was also gas friendly. Thus why I had to have another grand am once they decided that my '04 was totalled. With the insurance money I collected I reluctantly bought a great 2005 with not very many miles on it for about the same price I did my '04. And the safety on my '04 was amazing. The only injury i sustained was a bruised arm from one of my friends. Similar Products Used: 2004 Grand Am 2005 Grand Am 1999 Sunfire |

A few mechanical problems I really like the looks and enjoy the smooth ride of my 2003 Grand Am, while it has had a few problems overall it is a great car. I bought the car in November of 2004 from a used car lot in Minnesota. My entire family drives grand ams and we have had very few problems with them. I think it is simply a matter of taking care of them correctly, they have special needs. At the time of purchase it was the only gray stone metallic car on the road so that was a selling point for me, I like to stick out in the crowd. Or course now all that has changed and every time I look over my shoulder I see 5 cars that are the same color as mine. (No biggie though) My car has had two major mechanic problems. The fuel pump went out on a cold December night while I was in town shopping. I was sort of pissed but I got over it rather quick, I was just glad it was nothing major. The second problem was the tyranny went at about 85,000 miles. It happened to happy 3 days after my step dad flushed the tyranny, so I think that may have something to do with its failure…. Luckily my step dad is a mechanic and fixed both problems for me, charging me only the price for the parts. Other than those two problems everything works great, I have had no problems with anything else. The interior has held up great, it’s still in pristine condition. The seats can get a little uncomfortable depending on how far you are driving, so be prepared to take some breaks on long trips to stretch your back and legs. It handles well in both snow and icy conditions. In June of 2005 I took a job up here in Alaska so my car is temporarily parked in my parents shed and is awaiting my return in June 2006. I can’t wait to get home and drive it around. Oh and one last thing, for some reason the cruise control light doesn’t work, but it works fine… I’m just too lazy to fix it. garbage Its a cute car. That's about everything good I can say about it. I've had nothing but problems. Its had to go in to the garage twice because there's this gas/oil fume smell, and it's still not fixed. The air/heat/defrost only works when the dial is on 5. My brakes have needed replacing twice, and now there's something wrong with the transmission. |

Not A Lot! This is truly an AMAZING car. It looks great, handles excellent, and hates gas. I have an SE (V6); this is my first car and i love it. The only negative side to it is that it needs occasional fix-ups in the shop, but other than that, it's a perfect car for anyone. Similar Products Used: Traded FIRST 1999 Grand Am for Olds. looks good on the outside, nice monsoon sound .
Weakness:
brake problems, wind noise from the windows. bumpy ride, handles badly on wet pavement and in snow the car can't hold the road. Don't run over a rock, feels like the car is going to turn over. I have had my grand am for two years, and have had numerousbrake problems. Have had the car checked 5 to 6 times to correct the wind noise problem from the windows. Have had two sets of brakes and the rotors have been re-surfaced four times. Their is a transmission problem, when you stop the car feels like it slips into neutral. I had to pat the accelerator several time to get the car to jerk into drive. This problem is currently being repaired by the dealer under warranty. I am currently in need of brakes again. I contacted GM and told them that they should pay for the brake job, because all the brake problems I'm had. GM is refusing to pay because the warranty (12,000 miles) is up. I contacted the Attorney Generals office, who in turn wrote GM. GM is still refusing to replace the brakes but offered me 5 yrs 60,000 miles on the transmission (which is still under warranty). I'm currently looking into the lemon law |

Seat backs lever and center console seems a bit flimsy. I have read some bad reviews about this car that I purchased as a demo. I have had no problems so far it runs great and it looks great. The car handles well and has very good gas mileage. The instrumentation is nicely laid out and I like the red dash lights as well as the automatic headlights and delayed locking. Nice relaible transportation to this stage. |
