Strength:

Styling, performance, price

Weakness:

Brakes

A real fun car to drive, looks good and performs well. Only problem (so far) is the brakes. Severe pulsation, rotors machined at 41k km and again, with pad replacement at 46k km then at 51k km rotors replaced. Brakes seem weak, but apparently they''re ok according to dealer

Strength:

handles good, looks good, easy to drive, nice sized car

Weakness:

the inside has SO MUCH plastic!!!!

I''ve had my Grand Am for about 3 years. It handles the road pretty well. Other than having to have it towed because the wheel cylinder rotted out, it''s been a pretty reliable car. I''ve also had some problems with the fog lights not working all the time...but that could be because it was run over by a Ford F-350.

Strength:

Great acceleration from a standstill. Agile handling and great looks.

Weakness:

Lack of upper range power. Brakes tend to fade after one or two hard stops.

The Grand Am is a suprisingly quick and agile car. Since the 3.1Liter V6 was designed to provide power at lower speeds, it tends to be sluggish above 95mph. It handles curves with authority, but the steering is a bit heavy for some. During merges and while yielding in every day around town driving, overdrive can be hesistant to activate. The brakes tend to fade after one or two hard stops as in most GM cars. ABS can be uncivilized at times, but it, nonetheless, is a lifesaver. It looks quite handsome when compared to its SE Sedan sibling thanks to extra body cladding and sportier rear lights. All controls are clearly visible and within reach(except the cupholders which are located in the upper glove compartment)

Strength:

Power--Suprises many who want to "drag" Look--Great semi-sport car look Handling--Hugs the road and does well in corners TCS--This goes with the handling, but the Traction Control System works flawlessly Comfort--Very comfortable ride, esecially on long trips

Weakness:

Brakes--This seems to be a common issue for the Grand Am. Suspension--Noisy, but might be age issue for my car Sound System--I have heard FAR better factory speakers.

Contrary to most of the other reviews on the Grand Ams, I LOVE THIS CAR! It has great power, solid handling, and a good sporty look. I have had the car for almost two years now and can''t complain about a whole lot. The brakes are an issue, as most everyone else has noted. In the two years I have had the car I have had a complete brake overhall, and had to go back again for new pads within 6 months, and now I have the uncomfortable feeling like they need some more work. Overall, though, I would have to say you can''t beat this car for the price. I am continually amazed at the power I get from the V6. I have beat many "sport" cars from light to light and if ever got the chance to do a longer strip, I think I could hold my own (until I hit approx. 105-109mph because the damn thing has a regulator!) If anyone knows where I can get a chip or something to override this feature, please let me know. I have noticed lately that the suspension is a bit squeaky and I feel a lot of the bumps on the road. There are 88,000 miles on it, so maybe it is time for some new shocks and struts. Oh yeah, and my driver''s side window doesn''t go down right now, so I have to get that fixed. It has developed some hesitation sometimes at takeoff, but again I think there is some routine maintenance that needs done, so I can''t fault the car.

Strength:

Styling - not for everyone, but it certainly is distinct Engine - 3.4 ram air is a great powerplant with one exception(note weakness) Options - for the price, includes sun roof and aluminum wheels, no import could touch it. Monsoon stereo is a super sounding system Much better deal than purchasing an SE1 and then adding 6 cylinder and automatic

Weakness:

Engine - 175 hp out of a 3.4 is a bit low. Should be more on the order of 225. Cupholders - need to be deeper Cruise Control - don''t like it on steering wheel as can be accidently hit Transmission - 4th seems to be a bit to much on the overdrive side

Having just over 500 miles on the car I have a few comments to make. The build quality on the car is very good compared to some other products that I looked at. Body panel gaps are small. Lineup of the trunk and hood are excellent. The interior is well laid out and materials, albeit plastic, look good and once again build quality of the interior is great. The 3.4 engine is proving to be an excellent powerplant. It has a great sound when you open it up. So far gas mileage is not great, about 18 mpg around town, although I expect this will improve. Compared to some of the other reviews on 1999 and newer Grand AM''s, I have not yet encountered any problems. GM seems, at least on this model to have build a quality product, although time will tell. A good example of the build quality is in the closing of the trunk. The air tightness of the trunk is so good that I have to slam the trunk to get it to close. To prove this point, I put down the rear seat to see if the trunk would close more easily, and to my suprise it closed without much effort. Availability of this in a 4 door is great for a family.

Strength:

body styling is great, stereo is awesome for factory, roomy and comftorable for a coupe and a great warranty from GM in case anything happens

Weakness:

Poor job manufacturning the car at the plant, built like a lego (interior parts)

I''m loving this car, i would reccomend it to anyone, and I''ve spent my money customizing it to make it more me. Stereo, neons and rims. Over all I''ve had very few problems with the car, but the biggest thing that I dislike was that the car was made poorly at the factory plant and the intake valve was misaligned causing a high pitched squeal that took me 3 weeks to get fixed as it took the dealership a while to find the problem in the first place. Pontiac has some great packages on this car and it shows as the factory stereo, rims and sun roof make the car a ton better.

Strength:

Drivetrains reliability. though could have easily had more power with the v6 engine. interior layout and design...very functional and comfortable.

Weakness:

Brake system, which sucked. not enough power from a 3.4l v6 engine. exterior....boulbous and gangly design whether se or gt model. alright for the ladies though. depreciation value was high and horrendous when time came to rid myself of the dainty beast.

A two year stint with this car left me with a partially bad taste in my mouth. I finally rid myself of this everywhere you look gaudy monster someone has one and can be spotted on the road seemingly in every 5-10 vehicles you pass. A girls car...and though quite a reliable mode of transportation, it leaves something to be desired. and will never consider a grand am again.
