Strength:
Looks nice. Nice interior. Comfortable ride.
Weakness:
Doesn't corner well, too soft. Too hard to work on. Poor electrical system (windows especially). Talked to several shops, QUAD4 heads are notoriously for cracking. OK car. Looks nice. Bought it cheap with 115,000 miles. Power windows never worked correctly. Trunk molding fell off. Doesn't corner well. Quad4 has decent power. Had a fuel smell and blew spark plugs every couple thousand miles (turned out to be a cracked head). Drove it for 2 years up to 130,000 miles with no repairs other than replacing an alternator. After 2 years I decided to start fixing all the things wrong with it. Had to rip apart half the engine just to get to the head, which was cracked in 10 places. No room to work in the engine compartment. While putting the exhaust manifold on and torquing the bolts, the threads inside the head stripped. No way to fix without removing the head again. Decided to trade it in. Won't buy again. Similar Products Used: Ford Taurus (piece of crap too), Ford Probe (great car), Nissan 200SX (good car), Honda Accord (good car) |

Looks good, a lot of car for the money Good Acceleration & handling, feels real solid Good sound system
Weakness:
Where to begin: BRAKES - you guys are telling the truth, already dealing with a warped rotor that shakes the steering column when braking from over 40 mph. Alternator - had to be replaced before we bought it, but I don't know about its longevity Just seems like more could happen to this car over time, seems to built average, my wife liked the car when we test drove it so she stuck with it Overall, its a good car for the money, but be forewarned: 1. NEVER BUY A CAR 1ST YEAR OF NEW MODEL/REDESIGN 2. DO HOMEWORK ON CAR BEFORE YOU BUY Similar Products Used: 2000 Pontiac Sunfire 1989 Ford Probe LX 1994 Isuzu Amigo 1994 Isuzu Rodeo LS |

Strength:
Performance, handling, appearance
Weakness:
lack of customizing options From the moment I test drove my car till the present, My grand-am has never let me down. The performance is great...nothing like taking corners at 45 mph knowing your car can handle it more than you could. Acceleration is not a problem for grand-ams, carrying a kick-in-the-rear desire for going fast. I've noticed my car actually performs better at higher speeds. I raced my grand-am up to 110 mph, and the faster I drove, the better the handling. (or at least it seems) Fuel economy isn't the greatest, but its a sporty car and what sporty car actually has good mileage? It has alot of room for a 2-door coupe. Front passenger cab is a good size...but then again, I'm short. Only warning light I've seen is the "change oil" light. And, for those who complain how it comes on even if the oil is full...It doesn't matter if the oil is full, the oil has to be clean. The harder you drive your car, no matter what car you have, the more often the oil needs to be treated or changed. The appearance of the grand-am is intriguing. Sporty, but not overly-sporty. Cute but definetly not too cute. Not too many muscles, but enough curves. Highly attractive. More than enough advantages and performance for the amount of $$ spent. Finding a car that drives like the grand-am for about the same price would be a difficult task. Similar Products Used: '97 Saturn SL1; '96 Dodge Ram; '98 Dodge Avenger |

speed/acceleration/HP/torque, handling, sound system
Weakness:
price, mileage NOTE: Price is in Canadian dollars. I have not had any problems with this car. In fact, I would highly recommend it to anyone. Acceleration from 0, as well as at speed on the highway, is great thanks to the 3.4-L Ram Air V6. I bought cheaper rims for the winter, which should alleviate having to replace a dented aluminum alloy 'summer' rim. Have yet to see any of the reported problems with alternators, brakes, warning systems, or the like. Power everything has the potential of making me even lazier. Love the 'summer fun' package, with the sunroof and related add-ons. The wide wheel base handles like a dream around corners at higher speeds. Traction control works well in the winter, as well as the ABS brakes. The price seems as little high considering the car as a whole and others available for the same, and the mileage in town is not the best. Depends on your wallet. |

only one, front seats could be a bit roomier, guess i was used to my cutlas supreme's roomy front, but this is not that big of a concern.
Weakness:
Instructions on how to turn off the warning lights in the dash could be explained a little better in the manuel, other than that no quams. I love reading all these people complain, believe me it in most cases is not the car. I personally have purchased 6 cars 15 or so years and have yet to have a bad one. It's about taking care of the thing. The grand am I have is great and wouldn't mind buying another one in the future. The car gets great miliage, runs smoothly and every thing works great in it. Power, quick accerleration, good mileage on highway, nice body style
Weakness:
BRAKES, rear taillight, rattle in door, interior dash design I have a 2 dr 3.4 liter V6. I love the look of the car, and it is a quick car. However, in the 10 months that I have had the car, my brake light has gone on 4 times, and we have had to add brake fluid. We are still in the process of getting it fixed. Front passenger door has a rattle that is getting worse, and rear taillight constantly has one of the bulbs out. We have had it changed, so it must be electrical. Wider tires are nice, but handle like crap in the winter. Also, mileage in town for this car sucks!! This car was definatley designed for looks and not dependability and durability. Styling, roomy, gas mileage, acceleration.
Weakness:
BRAKES,steering, many mechanical problems. I absolutely loved the Grand Am the first six weeks that I had it-then the problems began-the brake jobs that seemed to be necessary EVERY 4-6 months in the 2 1/2 years I owned the car and that the car would shut itself off when I was driving. The acceleration was great and it was a nice looking car for the price. I will NEVER buy a car the first year it is redisigned again. My fiancee was in a very bad accident with the car and hit a tree and a stone wall and NEITHER airbag deployed. The car was totaled but suprisingly there was very little damage to the passenger compartment. I would rate it a 4 1/2 ona scale of 1-10. |
