Strength:
Love the way the car looks and drives. Comfortable inside. Great stereo system. Like the power/performance of the engine.
Weakness:
Noisy brakes. Multiple trips to service department are inconvenience. Expected to get a better vehicle for the price I paid. Bought my Canned Ham, er Grand Am, new in 2000. Will be 3 years old in 2 months and just turned 20,000 miles. So far the rotors had to be replaced at 8,000 miles because they were warped. The spoiler had to be replaced after 2 years because it cracked on both sides where it is mounted to the trunk. The lower head gasket had to be replaced because it was leaking coolant. The wipers started going crazy, so they replaced the switch. Didn't fix the problem so they put a new wiper motor in. Had an annoying squeak in the steering wheel (more pronounced the longer the car ran or the warmer the outside temperature) which they said was a bearing in the steering column; replaced that--same noise still occurred. Replaced steering rack. Fan for forced air for heat/vent/air quit working on setting 1 & 2 (would only work on 3 or above), so they replaced the blower motor resister. Creaking noise outside of car when brake pedal was pressed was due to bad caliper. Replaced that. So far, this has all been under warranty, which expires in 2 months (note the 3 years is up before the 36,000 miles!). While these problems haven't been major, if little things like these keep happening after the warranty expires I'll go bankrupt from the parts/labor costs!! Not to mention I am tired of trips to the dealership service department. I've had the car there at least 6 times in the past two months for these last few problems. Mainly because they've had to fix everything twice because the first time the problem wasn't what they thought it was! Also, anytime you adjust the volume for the stereo you must do it very slowly or it gets louder and just doesn't turn down. This I can live with, but it's a pain in the butt! I just expected to get a better product for my money and am very disappointed. I am not "hard" on my car at all. Mainly drive it to and from work, as you can tell by the fact that I only have 20,000 miles on it after 3 years. I am now in a position with the warranty about to expire of keeping my fingers crossed that nothing major goes wrong over the next 2 years I have left to pay the vehicle off or taking a hit if I purchase another vehicle because of the payoff amount I owe. Similar Products Used: Vehicle prior to this was a '94 Ford Probe, which I loved and had nary a problem with the 5 years I owned it. |

Looks great. Great stero. Comfortable ride. Good pick up.
Weakness:
Hope you have some time.... Changed/filed the rotors 4 times. Changed the breaks twice. Battery has died twice. Water leaked into my driver side back seat and a left a 3 inch puddle of water in the back. Tail lights went out. Rear view mirror has fallen off twice. Interior light has fallen down twice. Drivers side automatic window only works when in the morning when it's close to freezing (don't ask, I haven't figured this one out). Back seat driver's side window will not work. Intake manifold gasket is leaking coolant into my engine and causing small amount of smoke to come out the exhaust. Car doesn't always want to start (have had this problem 6 months into owning the car, dealership is unable to diagnosis the problem). Car shakes when driving (strong vibration in the steering wheel). Windows were horribly scratched after from rolling up and down (delaership fixed this problem once). My first few months with this car were great! I loved getting the compliments and really felt I had made a great decision in purchasing the Grand Am over the Mitsubishi Galant. Was I ever wrong! This car has had problem after problem. I baby my cars, change the oil religiously, keep the fluid levels up, rotate the tires, and try not to drive it too hard. Personally, I tell all of my friends to avoid Pontiac it is the worst driving experience I've ever had! I was terribly insulted when a service technician accused me of "abusing my car". I have called the 1-800 # and filed a report on this vehicle and the horrible service I have received. GM has ultimately convinced me to go foreign the next time I want to buy a car...which will hopefully be soon! Similar Products Used: Ford Escort (cheap, but never had a problem with it). |

Great looks, very peppy and dependable even on long road trips.
Weakness:
Change the brakes a lot. Heater went this fall cost 600 dollars to fix. but what is 600 bucks after owning a car for 10 years. This car is actually my moms. She bought it brand new when i was 15, she took me to the lot and let me pick as long as it was a 4 door. So i picked the grand am gt. Love this car, drove the crap out of it all through high school and i drove it almost 100 miles a day to commute to univeristy. The brakes wear out quick but that is really the only major problem. The car now has 300 thosand km on it and works fine still. Excelent car. I just bought a 1999 for myself last week and hope to have as much luck with it as my mothers 93. Similar Products Used: 1999 grand am, good looks and peppy too. Pontiac made an excelent car in the grand am. |

The whole car Ok I bought my car brand new and I wrote a good review in the beginning. My car sucks now. I've have to get new rotors, new struts, new bushing, my car ran out of gas twice when it read quarter of a tank. So I had to have the fuel sensor changed. I have a lot of wind noise. I already had to have a new battery, new tires and I only have 43,000 miles on my car. Today I took it in because the electric driver side seat quit working and my low track light keeps coming on when I put it in reverse. Now I need a new serpentine belt. Which my extended warranty dosent pay for and I have the Platinum (best)warranty. My car always has something wrong with it. I don't race my car or misuse it. Just normal everyday driving. I havent spent a lot of money on repairs because of the warranty and extended warranty but after it runs out I'm trading it in. I wont be able to afford to get it fixed. Similar Products Used: none |

Annoying reminder lights My check engine soon light came on at 40000 miles and I need a new O2 sensor($120), meanwhile the traction wont work till thats fixed. Yesterday, my turn signals started clicking uncontrollably, just the noise not the lights. My AC/Heat fan has no distinction between 1 and 2. |

reliability, squeaks and rattles. I have had nothing but problems with this car since I bought it. 2 months in the Trans-axle seal went. The the intake manifold gasket. The serpentine belt and somthing went with the timing. I just put new brakes and rotors on. Now I just found out I new new shocks, mounts, and fuel filter and now there is a puddle of anti freeze in my drive way again. There was somthing else that went to but I can't remember what. |

Strength:
It is a nice looking car.
Weakness:
The brakes and rotors need replaced way too often, the seats are not comfortable for long road trips, the radio volume will go up and down while you are turning it down, and you must turn slowly or it won't turn down at all. HATE IT!!!!! I bought my 2000 Grand Am SE2 because it was a sporty looking car that could haul 2 kids, however I have had new brakes put on twice, rotors resurfaced three times, seatbelt replaced on drivers side, tie rod on drivers side replaced,(passenger side in need of),entire fuel system replaced(lines&pump), it has also had to be re-aligned twice. It only has 60,000 miles, I bought this car used with 18,000 miles,I was in the shop before I made my first payment. If you own one of these cars sell before your warrenty is up, if you are looking at one of these cars, RUN!!! Similar Products Used: 1996 Ford Contour |

Pontiac Grand Am
Strength:
Great acceleration. Good handling. AC/Heat work fast. Quiet, no wind noise. Comfortable seats. Good sound quality. No maintenance problems since I've owned it (going on 41,000 miles). Rear seat fold-down gives a lot of cargo room, if you need it.
Weakness:
Gas mileage (V-6) is not as good as it should be. Can't turn the headlights off without turning the car off. Doesn't muffle bumps very well. Cupholders hard to get to. Annoying oil change reminder light. I find this car extremely dependable (going on 41,000 miles, no shop visits), and fun to drive. It has great handling, acceleration. Very quiet, no wind noise. You do feel every bump in the road, however. Heating/AC works quickly. The sound system is good. Overall, recommend highly. Very peppy, comfortable seats for a small person, looks sporty.
Weakness:
Noisy, very poor gas mileage, the paint chips very easily, lots of road noise. The drivers side window has the autodown feature which doesn't work very well-the window almost always goes all the way down. Overall, I am not very happy with this car. It is a nice looking car & has lots of power. It is comfortable enough for me. There has been problems which have have yet to be diagnosed after 6 months of trying. Similar Products Used: Cavalier |
