Strength:
I have the GT, w/6 cyl. so the pick up isn't bad, it's by no means a sports car, but it handles well. no shaking at highway speeds, and although the acceleration is not great, it's pretty good. The inside feels like a cockpit, everything is there at your fingertips. plus i like the traction control
Weakness:
why put a cup holder between the floor shift, and the console? nothing will fit in there?! Silly thing to complain about, but I do think it's strange especially after all of the money they probably spend on researching these things. Wish it was a little faster, as far as it's get up and go. I don't abuse it but it's nice to know you have a little xtra power when you want it. This car has (crossing fingers) been a great purchase, and so far there have been no real problems. I know that people have had trouble with their brakes, that i have not. I did have my brakes repaired but only because it was overdue. I need new shocks and struts, but come on, the car has 103,000 miles on it. Aside from some small repairs this car has been fun to drive. It does have a little too much noise from passenger side window, even shut tight it sounds like its open!?! And the problem with the stereo is a little strange, when you turn the volume down, it turns it up, and vice versa. very strange, but it has steering wheel radio controls, so i use those to operate the stereo. I've taken reasonably good care of this car (oil changes, rotate balance, transmission change) and drive it on the highway about an hour per day, 5 days a week. I plan on driving it until it dies, but all I can say is that so far it's been pretty decent. Similar Products Used: 91 cougar xr7 supercharger |

Drives nice, nice highway car
Weakness:
Huge engine problems!!! Brakes are a problem also. I would never buy another Pontiac product again!!! This car is costing me too much money in repairs. I have had nothing but problems with this car since I bought it. When I purchased it in Sept 2001, it had 96KM's on it. Replaced battery and brakes Oct 2001, cruise control stopped working, motor went at 109 KM's Feb 2002, paint chipping and bubbling allover, molding around windows bubbling, had motor work down again July 2002, had more motor work down jan 2003. And now, at 125KM's on car and just 63KM's on motor, guess what....another loud noise from motor and the struds and brakes again & something funny is going on with my power windows (they take a long time to roll down)need to be repaired. So its off to the repair shop this week. The total of my repairs are $4500 in just 1 year! Similar Products Used: 1997 Pontiac Sunfire-only trouble was a piston slapping and minor recalls. |

Strength:
Good power, good wife car. Confortable interior, sporty dash
Weakness:
Scrapping noise in front end sounded like brakes. I had Mcgrath Pontiac look into it 2 times never found the problem. Tried to tell me that it is the rims moving on the tires. Sounded like it came from the transmission though. No dip stick to for checking fluid conditions. The noise scared me off, so I dumped it on the same idiots that said theirs nothing wrong. Alot of idiot lights. Enjoyable to drive. Nice radio. |

Strength:
Other than the problems I mentioned above, it has been pretty good.......
Weakness:
Paint and brakes I bought the car brand new in November of 99--only 14 miles on it. I only have 36,900 miles on it now. I had the breaks fixed about 3 times before they finally got the recall/problem from GM resolved. I think within the first year. Stearing wheel would shake. I needed a new spoiler within the 1st yr of owning it because the paint chipped. It also chipped on the bottom of the front doors, the back of the front doors. (both sides) The dealer ship repainted. I have had the same paint problem EVERY YEAR! YES, I do have mud flaps on that were put on when I drove off the lot. They told me it's from rocks flying up. I had my service engine light come on at about 34,000 miles brought it to a different dealership and they told me it was from my gas cap not being on tight enough. I double check it everytime I fill up my car! Now, at 36,900 miles, guess what came on again..YOU GOT IT!! Of course, because the warranty is out!! So, back to the shop we go!! What I found out....buy the extended warrany, mostly because you will need a new paint job every year!!! |

It does have get up and go but it isn't worth for all of the repairs you have to put in it.
Weakness:
Everything! I would never buy another Pontiac Grand Am. This car has been constant problems. The brakes have been redone at least 4 maybe 5 times, the stereo once, the fan twice, the water pump once, the battery twice and the intake gasket needs to be replaced. It also appears that a lifter might be sticking. I have done regular maintenance on this car and it has been nothing but problems since I purchased it. I called GM and they were of no help. Take my advise don't buy one. Similar Products Used: I owned a 1994 Grand AM and I loved it. That is why I bought this one. |

fun on the freeway
Weakness:
Paint chipping, coolent system leaking, brakes, poor gas mileage, molding around windows bubbling, radio went out. Under warrantee I had plenty of problems, now that I am no longer under warrantee it only continues. I truly wanted to have this car for a few more years, but I doubt I will be able to. Grand AM SE (3.4L)
Strength:
swift acceleration (faster than the 3.8L Mustang) & smooth engine
Weakness:
engine governs on about 175 Km/h....the car could easily cut through 215-220 ; also the exhaust makes the car sound like a senior citizens vehicle...I guess Pontiac & GM aren't interested in targeting younger drivers...:-) I bought this car looking for performance, style, and handling. I'm glad I made the right choice, because this car satisfies all of those intentions without the $40,000 +++ price tag.! Similar Products Used: 1992 Grand Am 4 cylinder |

Strength:
Sporty looking Road handling
Weakness:
Brakes had to be replaced before 30,000 and again around 45,000 miles. Ticking in the engine, possibly a lifter or transmission. Interior panels by the windows are bubbling. I bought this car for it's looks and road handling. I thought it drove well when I tested it and it took curves well. Similar Products Used: None |

EVERYTHING!

ENGINE COULD BE MORE POWERFUL! I suggest getting '99 Grand Am. I have had no problems with my baby (my car!) I love it. It has all the power and smooth style that I like. My car has over 50,000 miles on it & have only had to replace normal wear & tear items such as brakes & tires on it. I love it. BUT I suggest DO NOT BUY ANY PONTIAC AT Wright Automotive. I had gone to the manager to ask for some aftermarket parts, & I got a list of things that I wanted to buy. Then I discovered some recalled parts on the pontiac website, printed it off & took my car back to get the things looked @ but the manager REFUSED to even speak with me once the employee told me that my car was not recalled even though I had the proof in my hands.... Then the manager told me he did not have the time to deal with me because I was irrate. DO NOT BUY YOUR CAR THERE!!! Similar Products Used: MAZDA TEMPO (CRAPPY!) ESCORT |
