Strength:

It has alot of power and looks great. I get good gas mileage on the highway.

Weakness:

There is repetative problems with the grand am's that GM should take a look at before they make any more new models.(such as breaks, rotors)

I absolutely love my car. I too, have had alot of problems with it such as brakes, callipers, rotors, resistor fan,all lenses hold water when car is washed and my driver and passenger window's are all scratched from rolling them down. Most of these things I have got fixed. No matter what vehicle you buy there will be faults from any company.

Strength:

Great Looking. Lots of low RPM torque Powerful, reliable engine

Weakness:

Too many to list, Poor wiring, Poor brakes, Poor suspension, Poor electrical

I have been very unsatisfied with this car. It's great looking and has a lot of low end torque, which is nice when you really need power (especially from a stopped position), but I can't keep it out of the shop. Every time I fix something, there is a problem with something else. I have easily invested over $5000 in this car.

Strength:

Appearance - rare grey/purple metallic Speed - has great get up and go Price - older model GA's hold their value Reliability - always starts in Michigan winters ROLL WINDOWS ARE AWESOME-they don't break

Weakness:

No car is perfect-you get what you put in Had to replace: ignition switch & wiring harness (RECALL) starter RF wheel bearing Heater fan

I absolutely adore my 94 grand am. Of course there has been routine fixes but what can you expect from a car with 120K miles on it. However, I am planning to sell it - Of course I'm not planning of switching makers - I have a great deal on the same thing only three years newer with half of the miles and a V6 rather than the trusty Quad 4. I reccomend this car to anyone.

Weakness:

None yet

Have had the car for 18 months now and still is excellent. Mileage has improved to about 22 City and around 30 on highway. Have 20000 km on car. Only 1 trip to dealer for loose dome light. None of the other common problems although on last service check dealer noticed a small oil leak but might have been spillage from oil change.

Speed-gets up and goes when not in the shop, sports car looks.

Weakness:

Well every month it goes into the shop, since ive owned it in a year in a half, ive replaced:-drive axles, alternator, radiator, multi exlectorical parts. the car got stuck in drive and would not shut off. keep going through front brakes every 3 months, i do only high way driving. the exhaust is plugged up again, was replaced 2 months ago and im about to add a straight pipe. just bascially i dont recommend anyone to buy one they are junk, im buying a honda civic this summer, American Cars suck!!!!

Well I had to purchase another car, my pontiac bonneville which i bought new, had over 300,000 miles and started to fall apart left and right, I found this grand am, had major hail damage, the price and it seem to run like a new car, had very low millage, around 60k, I always wanted a sports car, looked good to me so i bought it.

Strength:

even the 4 cylinder had guts looks great sporty fun to drive and VERY RELIABLE

Weakness:

the volume on 1999 would go up instead of down, the fan couldn't distinguish between 1 and 2 in heat

LOVED THIS CAR!! It was my very first car and was VERY reliable. Bought with 113,000 miles on it and drove it till it had 220,000 on it traded it and it sold to a mail route driver. The only problem struts and rack and pinion steering had to be replaced but after 113,000 miles that isn't out of the ordinary. I have since owned a 1999 and now a 2002 and am still very satisfied with the Grand Am. I think it totally depends on the driver. If you say you beat on it and have problems with the brakes and rotors, you deserve it!

Strength:

Looks good. No mas.

Weakness:

MAINTENANCE!!! Don't go more than a month or a 1000 miles before something else goes wrong. Water leaks at firewall, front bearings, ECM, catalytic converter, horn acting up in the winter, ABS and break warning lights, electric windows, glove compartment, expensive parts, wierd stuff even the dealer can't explain, etc. etc. Stop me, I'm getting depressed.

Looks great. Runs great when not getting fixed. Would like to sell it to someone who's not a friend, not a family member, not a neighbor, and has no idea where I live. Will have to sell short because of all the wierd problems and noises a buyer is going to ask about. Don't know who or what this car was designed for - not the open road(no place to keep things handy), not the city or parking lots(lousy sight lines and visual obstructions galor), not for backyard mechanics(gotta do too many other thing first before you can get at what needs fixin). All in all, a sorry excuse for a ride. Baught it used with only 15,000 miles on it for 4 grand from a friend who inherited it from his dear departed mum. Have spent a bit more than that already and its got only 45,000 miles on it. Anyone interested?

brakes, ignition problems, electrical problems, paint

This is the worst car I have ever owned. It has cost me an outrageous amount of money and everytime I turn around something else is wrong with it. I am having trouble getting it to shut off and I took it to a pontiac dealer who said it was the ignition switch and there was a recall on it in 97. They "changed" it so they say but the problem is still the same and when I called them back they said "well it starts doesn't it?". That never was the problem. It won't release the key. I don't know what is wrong with it but when I get rid of it I will never buy another one. I wouldn't even recommend one for an enemy.

Strength:

Good acceleration.

Weakness:

Fan for AC/Heat has required resistor replacement twice (settings 1 and 2 stopped working). Lots of wind noise at 70 mph and above. Water collects inside the rear deck spoiler. High maintenance/repair costs.

1999 SE2 sedan Most recent repair: Fluid from fuel injector line sprayed on battery, shorting out the battery and ruining the alternator. Cost: about $400.

Strength:

Looks good, has comfortable seating, lots of space.

Weakness:

The brakes are not any good for anything the first year I had the car I got new brakes, ever since it has been squeeking, the heat/AC controls suck the first two settings are'nt any good. All kinds of lights come on for no reason. Of course the air pressure for tires does not come on when there is hardly any air in the tires, I don't know what it is there for. The first two months I had the car the anti lock brakes sensor went, I could'nt buy just the sensor, a million other things had to be bought as well, because of the way it was put together by GM.

The Grand Am is really stylish and looks great, this is the second Grand Am I have bought, I love the looks of the car, but it has alot of down sides.
