Strength:

Looks great, dependable, safe, roomy.

Weakness:

Some little things did break such as the seat adjustors, the backseat cup holder, but not untill recently. I wish the frame sat a little lower to the ground, and the back door locks stopped working recently, too.

I bought this car brand new off the lot in Sept. 1998. This year will be our 5 year anniversay. I was 18 when I bought this car and I feel lucky to have gotten suck a reliable car when I didn't know what I was doing. I ran this car harder than most people would...I did not get regular maintenence and put 90,000 miles on it in 5 years but this car has never given me ANY issues. The ONLY thing that ever went wrong with my car was the power steering went out at 75,000 miles, the left side wheel spring (does it have a name?) cracked at 85,000 miles and the brakes needed to be replace about every 5 or 6 months. But I ran my car to death!!! I was involved in two major accidents and the airbags deployed on time and probably saved me from severe injury. I installed a nice stereo system and tinted the windows, etc. and this car looks so nice. I was proud to drive my car everyday. I highly reccommend this car to anyone who wants the who package.

Looks like a dream sports car girls think its a good car

Weakness:

v-6 engine that only gives out 140 hp brakes pontiac does not stand behind the car at all...they can't even fix any of the problems gas mileage oil

This is my first car. It looks great, but dont let looks decieve you. The security function on the car turnes on randomly and than the car won't start. The brakes are horrible. Luckily i have a warenty on the car, if I didn't have it I would be paying a lot to get the car fixed. The pontiac dealership and mechanics don't really fix the problems. I had to take the car 3 times back to them just to fix the security fuction. It keeps messing up after 2 to 3 months. Without the security function fixed the car never starts because it shuts of the ignition or something.

Looks great. Acceleration/speed. Drives smooth. Comfort

Weakness:

Finding out what the problems are. Usually end up fixing a few things before determining what is causing the actual problem.

I have had my car almost 2 years and have just replaced the brakes and rotors. My signals tick even when signals are not on. My ABS light and trac off come on while driving, still have yet to figure out why. Had transmission rebuilt at 80,000km

Strength:

Great power, steering control on curves, nice appearance, parts availability.

Weakness:

I bought this vehicle at 111,000. Had the intake manifold gasket replaced at 162,000 only to have the engine rebuilt at 165,000 only to have 4th gear go out at 167,000. I've replaced the exhaust, all belts and hoses numerous times, pulley, alternator (3 times) tires were expensive, rotors and drums, brakes (4 times in 2 years), 3 of the 4 window motors have gone out or had faulty wiring, doesn't read well on computer diagnostic, stereo flew out and roof buckled with a rear impact hit which shoved me into another vehicle and air bag never went off. Had to replace A/C hose/tube from rubbing on transmission, replaced radiator, fan motor, bad wiring in steering including the hazard/turn signals, replaced a motor mount, battery twice, and all of this was in 2 years time. I thought I was getting a good used vehicle, but evidently not.

Overall I have spent more money maintaining this vehicle than I paid for it. Love the look, but hey, looks aren't everything.

Strength:

nice looking, smooth ride, lots of room

Weakness:

various undiagnosed electrical problems: radio going on and off, inside lights staying on when car is off, blinkers that stop working intermittantly, dash lights come on and off randomly, and passive security system triggered resulting in the car not starting! gas tank sensor went out within first year of owning this car. Takes a while for car to turn over and start. Less than helpful Pontiac service departments.

I loved this car when I first got it, but have recently starting having random problems Pontiac suspects are electrical but have yet to definitely diagnose and fix. This ultimately caused the car's passive security system to be triggered, which then disabled the fuel system. When asking the "certified GM mechanics" what causes the security system to be triggered normally, we got a reassuring "I don't know." With only 6 months left on the warranty, it seems a foregone conclusion that this electrical problem will end up being a costly one for me when it recurs. (Which it will, since nothing has been fixed!) After keeping the car for a week, they find nothing wrong with it. Must be my imagination.

Trade it in for intrepid BIG mistake. I am about to get a new grand am. looking forward to late. It was a wounderful car.

Strength:

Dynamite styling, super quiet and smooth, great interior and dash design, plenty of power and still gets 30mpg on the highway.

Weakness:

this car should have full instrumentation in keeping with Pontiac's sporting image. Idiot lights are for old ladies.

First wimpy GM compact I have ever owned. I previously drove a V-8 Mustang, and I figured I would hate this car, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Even with the 4-cylinder (which I chose for gas mileage) the performance is very respectable. It is quiet, smooth, and fun to drive. I bought it as a second car but it quickly got elevated to first car status. Although I got a horrible deal on it, the car has helped ease the pain of getting taken so badly. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if I were in the market for another car. I think it is an especially good car for families on a budget, students, or people like me who just enjoy owning several cars but can't afford really expensive ones. The coupe is a bit sportier, but the 4-door is one of the sportiest 4-door models around, and offers the added convenience of easy rear-set access.
