Strength:
Nice looking car. Accelerates fine. Paint seems to hold up well.
Weakness:
-Rotten brakes and rotors, -Little Switches and resistors need replaced all the time, -GM has no clue why car will suddenly not start, then hours later runs fine. I bought this car used a little over 2 years ago. Since then I have replaced the fuel sensor, blower motor resistor, front brakes 3 times, rotors, and turnsignal switch. Now at 47,000 miles, I have a problem with the car not starting. It cranks but won't start. Had it towed twice, but nothing shows on diagnostics. Starts fine at dealership. I'm so glad I bought the extended warranty. At least I'm getting my moneys worth out of the warranty. When the warranty is up, I'll probably dump the car. |

Strength:
Good acceleration, roomy for a sporty car, nice styling.
Weakness:
Poor interior plastics, ie; heaterknobs breaking off, door sills warping, water leaks in trunk and in sun roof, vibration and shaking steering wheel and dash, too many wasted trips to the dealer(s) that won't acknowledge proper repair. Too many annoying and some major mechanical concerns such as premature brake and caliper wear, and last of all who ever heard of an auto transmission without a dipstick? Must've been rooky engineers on that one. Bought this car new off the lot and Has been my first new vehicle in 30 years. Being loyal and buying a North American car has proven to be disappointing and eye opening experience. Am finding out that dealerships won't fix obvious problems under warranty if it shows the poor quality of the product. Good-bye Pontiac. The car is 2 years old and already I have a collecton of 26 work repair orders....... Similar Products Used: MAZDA 626 PLYMOUTH ACCLAIM |

too much road and exhaust noise, not a good car for a long trip. View out the back window when backing up is poor due to high trunk and large rear window We bought the car new in June 2001. It is a GT with all options but leather interior. The car has performed well with no major problems. It sometimes doesn't start on the first try. Dealer says that problem has apeared on other Grand Ams, but they have been unable to track a fix. Developed a noise when coming to a stop, we thought it might be a wheel bearing, but the dealer had determined it was a pattern molded into the Goodyear RS-A tires rubbing on the rim. The dealer replaced all four tires at no charge. And the car had 26,000 miles at that point! Similar Products Used: 95 Ols Cutlass 85 Grand Am |

The 3.4 is two under rated. Maybe 175 horses at idle this car dynoed at 217 horsepower. This car moves when given the right amount of gas. On average the car regularly achieves 25-27 mpg in local street driving
Weakness:
Tail light bulbs just dont last. Where is the aggressive exhaust note? A four door Grand Am GT. Black in color (the only color) with a full functioning Ram Air hood. Powertrain is totally stock and the exhaust is stock Except a saber exhaust. 0 to 60 in 7.1 seconds and quarter mile at 14.6 at 94.7 mph wins to loses are 5 to 2 Driven daily and used to drive back and forth to work and defend America's honor against imports. Drives great! Very fast and very sporty.
Weakness:
Poor design on window regulator. Exterior trim keeps coming unglued. Overall a decent car. Not too many problems until just recently. Window regulator broke--not the motor, but the cheap plastic clips that push the window up and down. GM says they won't fix it, even though people seem to say it's a common problem with this model. Hmmm... Similar Products Used: none |

Looks sporty and drives well (if the brakees are working.)
Weakness:
BRAKES and apparantly the people authorized to fix it. Overall, I really enjoy the car. It looks nice and drives well. Unfortunately, I have had the breaks in to be fixed five times in 30,000 miles. The Pontiac dealer fixing the car (not the one I bought it from) told me I must be riding the breaks. Only after we insisted they check other things, did they look at the manual and realize that they had been installing the break pads backwards. Apparantly it isn't obvious but one side is higher than the other (barely) and they had been installing it backwards. This was a Pontiac dealer. If you have been experiencing this problem. You might want to suggest they look at this! That certainly explained why the original brakes went 40,000 miles and the subsequent brakes (installed by this dealer) only went about 5,000. |

brakes I am very satisfied with my car. It has lots of power, nice radio system, handles well in curves. Its a very sleek eye catching car. Overall good on gas, plenty or room for my family of 5. Stylish sleek overall car. brakes need help already, after seeing this web-site it scares me a bit. I work with 3 other people who have grand am's they all say something negative about the brakes, but they are satisfied as well, they own 98 and 99 grandams. Grand Am
I have to say, I love my new Grand Am. I used to own a small size pickup, and this change was most definetly for the better. I love the way my GA handles, rides, accelerates, sounds, and feels. The interior is more of a luxury interior then a midsized sedan. After a small bit of work the engine now purrrrs like a kitten, and the gitty up and go power is better than most cars I test drove before buying my GA. I would most definetly recommend the purchase of a Grand Am to anyone interested in a sporty, economical, and safe vehicle. |

Nice looking, good handling, decent on gas.
Weakness:
GM's big weakness, BRAKES. Blinker issue, brake circuit board, headlight cover cracking, too common on this type of car. Get extended warranty, or ditch before it expires. From the test drive, brakes were iffy. Had fronts replaced {20K}. Front brakes again {30K}. Again at 48K. Had the mysterious phantom blinker (blinker arm switch}, bad front strut, broken motor mount, cracking headlight cover, circuit board failed for rear brake light. |
