Strength:

Good power, comfy and roomy. Pretty good gas mileage for a V6. Looks really nice and sporty.

Weakness:

GASKETS, GASKETS, GASKETS!!!

This is the worst car I have bought. I should have thought about my 94 Grand Am before I went out and did something so stupid as to buy another one. It goes through brakes 2 times a year (every 12k miles) The gaskets have been replaced 3 times with no luck. The coolant is now leaking into the engine. The trunk won't open with a key anymore and I had no access to the trunk until the popper on the door decided it wanted to work again. And I need a need circuit panel in the back drivers side breaklight. This car is awful and it's going away in Novemeber. I can't WAIT!!!

Horsepower, options and basically everything about it. I have nothing but good things to say about it.

Weakness:

I only wish that on the 2001 GM would have extended the warrenty like on the 2002.

I have now owned my Grand Am for about 6mths and let me tell you it is one of the most fun cars I have owned. Being a sedan this car really goes. I have the optional V6 in it with all the bells and whistles. All I can say it that my next car is going to be another Grand Am.

Strength:

The power for a 4 cylinder engine is impressive

Weakness:

The timing chain, the lock cylinder, the small hump in the center of the back seat that makes tightening a car seat down almost impossible.

I have been dissappointed in this car since I bought it. I have had timing chain problems right after I got it and agian now 2 years later. I have to now put close to another $1000 into a car that has had nothing but problems. Also the lock cylinder that realeases the key out of the ignition has been bad. Even after Pontiac issued a recall and replaced it, I still have had problems. I will never buy another Pontiac product again

Strength:

Great low end torque, lots of features for the money, sporty looking, great sounding Monsoon system, practical and has good room (for a coupe).

Weakness:

Fog lights didn't work from day one, had them fixed in Aug. Midrange torque not as good as my 97 Camaro's 3800 V-6 and cruise control is in a lousy space (Bottom of the steering wheel).

This car has been a big surprise! After demolishing my 97 Camaro in April, and GM no longer makes Camaro's or Firebird's, it was between this and and the Grand Prix GT! I got a better deal on this car and thought I'd be disappointed, but it has good power and nothing has really gone wrong yet (I had a 96 Honda Civic that gave me lots more trouble as did my 89 Ford Mustang GT). Though I miss my Camaro, so far this is the best car I've ever had!

This car will pull to 100mph without blinking. The Ram Air gives increases in power at high speeds, More or less depending on the wind, temp and speed. It's pure fun and my right foot loves it !

Weakness:

I realize this isn't the most perfect car out there but It's been good to me since 1999. Also, I've never been stranded in my Grand Am. I've driven alot of FORDS that will leave you looking stupid on the side of the road and I hate that.

This car gives more than what I expected ! I truley purchased this car for the looks and the "cool" factor. Let me tell you, this GT I have is FAST! It's a 3.4L with only 175hp and 205lbs of torque but it takes of like a race car. I haven't had any of the problems these people speak of. The rotors are an issue but brakes are a wear and tear item anyway.

None. The Grand AM GT is a bang for the buck! It's different, popular, sharp, cool. When you see it on the road you know its a GA and nothing else ! P.S. Be good to a car and it will be good to y

Exceptional handling and a smooth ride make everyday driving a pleasure. Spaceous interior makes for comfortable traveling. Trunk capacity is terrific for the size of the vehicle and 27 miles to the gallon is outstanding. Delayed locking system is also a plus

Weakness:

does not come with full size spare

This is the most enjoyable car I have ever owned. Not only do my wife and I love the sporty design, we are thrilled with the superior handling the Grand Am offers. The interior design is practicale and well layed-out. All features are easily accessible from the driver's seat.

Strength:

Good gas mileage, looks

Weakness:

Electrical problems, desin flaws, difficult to repair problems without a mechanics shop.

This is my wife's second grand am. She like the looks and it gets good gas mileage, but I will never let her buy one again. The first one had to have three alternators in three years and was consistenly having to have radiator parts replaced. The one we have now has had starting problems. A few times it died with no warning while driving on the highway. It was some sort of electrical problem linked to the ignition switch. We have had two altornators, which it is nearly impossible to change the belt yourself. It has leaked oil since it was practially new. The a/c compressor has a leak, which is slow enough that I just recharge it every three months. The a/c low pressure inlet is also under the fan making it difficult to get to, while the port that is the least used is on the top with easy access. The spark plugs toward the firewall are difficult to get to since the engine is sideways. The only way I can get them out is to kneel on top of the engine and use a socket with two extensions and two universal joints. The head lights have not turned back on a few times after flashing from high to low, which makes me not want to let my wife drive a night in that car. The head lights work fine almost all of the time so the problem is difficult to isolate. The snaps that hold down the pannel above the instrument cluster have broken and I have had to rig a solution to keep it from vibrating while driving. It is a design flaw with molded plastic that has threaded fasteners that cut through the molding. And now, the heater coil has gone out. These cars seem to be plaged with problems.

As far as other vehicles, I have had a Nissan pick up for 10 years with absolutly no problems other than a small leak in the low pressure line of the AC comming out of the compressor ( a simple joint)

Strength:

The best styling of any compact sold here. It is such a refreshing change from all the look-alike clones being sold by the other manufacturers, both foreign and domestic. The quiet and smooth ride rivals our Lincoln Town Car, and the fuel economy is excellent.

Weakness:

My only complaints are the location of the cruise control at the bottom of the steering wheel hub, which is a little awkward. I am also disappointed that Pontiac did not include full instrumentation in a car that has such a sporting image.

I'm very disappointed with this site due to the obvious lack of editing. It's obvious that most of the negative reviews are bogus, and written by people who work for Japanese car dealerships. That's a shame, because this would be a great site to see some truly objective reviews by real owners. I purchased my 2001 Grand Am in late winter of this year and have put 6000 miles on it. We have owned luxury cars, sports cars, trucks and SUV's, and this is without a doubt the best car, dollar for dollar, I have ever owned. I look for reasons to go someplace. It is quiet, smooth, fun to drive and incredibly economical (almost 30 mpg highway). I have not encountered one single problem or defect. Of course the car doesn't handle like a sports car. It isn't one. What it does do is deliver an incredibly smooth and quiet ride with ample power for all driving situations, even with the 4. The braking is good, and at 36,000 miles the pads are not yet half worn out. All the accessories work flawlessly, and all controls are located within easy reach. The interior is one of the plushest and sportiest I have seen in a car of this very economical price range, and the fit and finish are excellent. The body is tight and all the body panels fit properly, and the doors and trunk have a solid, quality feel opening and closing.

Beautiful car, handles & accelerates great fun to drive

Weakness:

poor electrical design, watch out for all that window dressing,I'm not the first Pontiac owner who thinks they would be better off selling fishbowl aquariums.

sunroof leaks that you get water over the floormats if it isn't parked just right, put a plastic bag over it if we hear a stom coming.drivers backrest cushion delaminated steel rubbing will come through material if not fixed,(wife drives weighs 130 lb at most)traded a taurus thought I moved up to a Pontiac, I could have bought a 1 year old taurus for what I paid. Vanity got the best of me,I bet it doesn't happen again!!!!!! If there is no problem with the sunroof why did Pontiac change the design? They should be forced to recall!!!!!!The water runs down the headliner when it rains harder than the drain tubes can handle & right into the fuse blocks, shorting out the relays.Vinyl peeling off rear door pad at window and the rear window doesn't even get used.(Buyer beware)
