Strength:

Comfortable, roomy, smooth ride, little or no maitenance.

Weakness:

None that I am aware of

I bought this vehicle in Dec of 94 and it had 84,000 miles. It now has 244,000 and still going strong. It has been the "BEST" car I have ever owned. Roomy and comfortable. I have not had to do any major repairs and actually have spent very little on repairs other than routine maitenance. I just purchased a 1996 Bonneville and am hoping I have the same luck. I am going to pass the 1990 Bonne on to a family member and I believe she will go another 100,000. Just thought I would like to have a newer one with a sleeker body style. Prior to the 90, I had a 1987 that got totalled when it had 165,000 miles on it. I bought a Blazer 2 years ago and have already spent more $ on it than I have on the 1990 Bonneville in 8 years. I like the Blazer but you just cannot keep the service engine light off. I have replaced two and the light is on again and shall stay that way this time.

Strength:

I can't think of any except it has great acceleration, if you can keep the car together!

Weakness:

Pontiac will not cover anything major under the warranty. They send an ins. person to test the car just to say they are not responsible!

This car sucks! The transmission has a hesitation that pontiac says isn't the trans (and refuses to cover under warranty), but many mechanics have said otherwise. The intake is PLASTIC and is common to crack according to mechanics. The intake costs around 700.00 to fix.

Strength:

Styling - Comfort - Power (all Pontiac strengths)- love the 3800 Series II supercharged engine

Weakness:

After reading previous postings about engine problems on similar Pontiacs, somewhat concerned about future problems - but we purchased an extended bumper-to-bumper warranty, so hopefully will cover any repairs down the road

I have owned GM products off and on for 33 years, and am very impressed with this vehicle. It replaces a 2002 Sunfire, which was extremely reliable, but only so-so on gas mileage. This SSEi has everything but heated seats (not a big deal for most of the year in Oklahoma!)Vey impressive comfort and power - it was purchased primarily for my wife, who is spending more time on the highway (and she didn't like the Sunfire). We have had good luck with previous GM products (2000 Buick Le Sabre most recently)and also currently own a 2002 Montana extended van which we enjoy. Our Pontiac dealer is very responsive to problems and follows up on customer service.Time will tell, of course, but we love our Bonny.

Strength:

The ride on this car is excellent. The Fuel mileage cannot be beat for such a large car Approx 25 miles per gallon.

Weakness:

Turning radius stinks

I have owned this car since it was new. It is the only car that I have owned that I have kept for more than 3 years. I have had 7 good years with the car. The manifold did melt with 97000 miles on it. The water pump also went around 70000 miles. But besides that no other problems with the car. Those repairs cost a total of $1200 I do not think thats bad for 7 years and 109000 miles. I live in South Florida and the AC is still going strong which is saying a lot down here.

Strength:

Fast and comfortable, I was a limo driver once before and this Bonneville matches any of the sedans I drove back then.

Weakness:

Transmission!!!!!!!!!!!!Haven't replaced the second one yet, trying to hold on til I hit the lotto.

I've had my SSE for 5 years now and am on my second transmission. This gets real expensive ($2000) because of the front wheel drive. Even though this is a major problem over-all I am still happy with my car (but no more trannys')!

Strength:

Large, comfortable interior perfect for a large Texan man. A pleasure to drive long distances. Good GPM and stylish looks. GM could have made this so much more.

Weakness:

Faulty plastic trinkets in engine. Poor clear coat results in faded paint early in life. Trunk lid dumps water into interior during rain. Window will not seal if rolled up at highway speeds.

I have never been so disappointed in my life as I am today when reviewing my $1400 repair bill for a defective design that GM was aware of but has made no effort to address. Yes, the plastic plenum strikes again, I guess I should consider myself lucky since I got 99000 miles out of the car before the meltdown. I'm tempted to tell them to silicone the plenum back together long enough for me to get it to a car dealer, because a trade-in it will be. As a flag-waving patriot an am embarassed that I must now admit to my 'imported' co-workers what they have known all along - GM products are junk. I would almost consider wearing a kimono and begging the toyota dealer to sell me a dinky car. Wait, no I wont... Back to an Audi or Volvo.

A good car. ALot of people say some cars suck but if they did regular maintance they would not have these problem. Its not ok to go over 3000 on a oil change. And i beat the piss out of it. Bought it with 105,000 and has 150,000 no problems.

Strength:

Love the looks, motor is strong, great paint, seems to be knick proof from road stones. I get many compliments on the ride. Orange dash night lighting is sharp. Very quiet engine. Except for intake problem, I love the car.

Weakness:

After a rain when opening trunk, water pours in. Wind noise in cabin but tolerable. While car was under warranty replaced wiper control/direction signal lever and both rear bumper pistons(leaked). Still having same wiper problem with new lever..squirters will run but blades sometimes won't sweep during squirting, mostly yes, sometimes no. I'm selling this car now because of the high potential for future coolant leaks, and next time it happens it could destroy the engine. Too bad as I've really cared for it and it's in showroom condition. I'm seriously looking at Grand Marquis/Crown Vic.

Upper intake manifold failure at 28,000 miles. Noticed coolant on top of engine. Happened Jan 2003 with car 4 months out of 3 yr warranty. Had it repaired at dealership where I bought it new. Repair cost $700 includes $300 for intake part plus clean injectors/throttle body and change oil in case coolant contaminated system. Car still running like new so no known internal damage that I understand coolant will do to cylinders if it gets in. Tried to get GM to help with cost, they said no as car was out of time warranty (only 4 months over yet way under the 36,000 miles). GM says dealership doesnt see anything unusual about this so GM won't help. I then held a meeting with dealership to make sure everbody had their stories straight and who really said what. Dealership says it's not unusual to them as they see so much of it, to the point that the intake is an in-stock item. Dealership told GM they see my problem a lot, plus others with lower gasket failures that cause leaking. So I tell dealership that I'd learned on the internet about GM bulletin 01-06-01-007 which recognizes these coolant leak failures. All I had was the number, couldn't get the text. I give number to dealership, they print it out, it's title "Engine Coolant Consumption or Coolant Leak (Inspect for Material Degradation/Replace Intake Manifolds)" That notice first came out in 1998 and updated 7/18/01 as #01-06-01-007A. Also lists cars affected, mostly 1995-1998 all with 3.8 litre vin K -- rpo l36. GM recognized the intake problem in its 1998 bulletin so why is 99 bonneville having a failure. So dealership says they can't do anything because GM won't reimburse dealership. Suddenly at this meeting with dealer a light goes on and service manager remembers that the intake is considered an emissions part and in the state of Massachusetts the warranty on emissions is 7 years 70,000 miles. Dealer contacts GM to explain Mass. law, GM agrees to provide me cost assistance of $600 (they wouldn't cover oil change and cleaning injectors even though dealership said it was necessary). This all started on Jan 28 2003, got my check April 16, 03. I consider myself lucky in a lot ways given the other reviews I've read about this problem.
