Strength:

Everything is strong on this car! Moonroof, sunroof, whateverroof!! The adjustments for the front seats, we're talking nine buttons here! The copilot can even adjust the seat! Power windows, stereo controls on the steering wheel, heads up display, climate control and that compass in the instument cluster, OFF THE HOOK!! The antenna is telescopic. Two cigarette lighters. I haven't been in the back seat, but it looks nice back there too! Nine (9) buttons to control the front seats, oh right, I said that already. NINE! Cup holders in the door keeps it away from the shifter and my seat controls, all nine of them. The arm rest compartment has a secret compartment in the bottom from a false bottom in it, this car has everything! There was even a pair of Oakley shades in there! SWEET!!

Weakness:

Um...maybe too many controls for the seat. There are nine of them for goodness sake. NINE ADJUSTMENT BUTTONS FOR THE FRONT SEATS!! I got one, it cost $32.75 to fill up the tank, 16.547 gal.

Before I summarize, I would like to thank all you fellow Bonneville owners for your comments, even the bad ones, that helped me tremendously in my decision making process. The day I looked at this site, there were 191 Bonneville reviews and I looked at all of them. After I got to around 100, I was skimming mostly for bad reviews to see what kinds of problems people were having. I also checked out some five starts to see what they liked. When I got the auction, I was lucky to see two Bonnevilles, black and white. I drove the white one first and liked the power, but the interior looked like somebody tried to steal it like in Terminator when Reece busted the steering column with the shotgun... Then I drove the black one. It was the first car I saw when I got there and I didn't think I would have a chance at such a great looking car. I thought it was going to be way out of my price range. I noticed that it had a strange looking insignia on the quarter panel (behind the rear windows). Upon inspection, it was the 40th Anniversery special deal Pontiac put on there, SWEET! Then I opened the door to see that grey leather and all those buttons! Moonroof, power, everything, SWEET!! I drove it and it drove SWEET!!! Power, excelleration, brakes felt good, no problems!! I saw it rolling up to the auction block and hurried over to place my bid. I love those auctioneers! I want to know what they are saying, because the noise they make only makes sense to me when they say a number, but it sounds funny. Yep, I got it. Yep, it was under five grand. Yep, I am a happy boy! I couldn't believe it! All that black paint, leather, glass, rubber and STEEL for $4,850 after fees and taxes! WHAT A BARGIN!

Strength:

Tons of leg room, especially for those of us with long legs. Great gas mileage. Love the storage, trunk space, roominess in the back seat, even with the driver's seat all the way back.

Weakness:

Only a minor few. The GM CD player/radio/clock read-out goes crazy sometimes, mostly in the summer, but "fixes itself" after the A/C cools down the interior. Needs a window lock, especially if you have little ones in the back seat. Don't really care for the cup holders in the front doors, although it's good for keeping spare change!

Bought this car from a friend of the family, after her husband passed away. He was the original owner of the car, & took very good care of it. Was a little leary of a "full size car" at first, since I've always been used to smaller cars in the past. My Bonneville had 48000 miles on it when I bought it, now 56000, and the only things I have replaced is a battery, the alternator, & the tires. I have the oil changed regularly, had the windows tinted, & that's about it. It's been a wonderful car, & I would buy another in a heartbeat, despite all of the negative responses I've read so far. It's been fairly reasonable in cost to repair, so I'm not really afraid to fork out the $$$ to get it replaced (unlike my last car, a 96 Chevy Cavalier). All in all, I love my Bonneville, & would recommend one to anyone that asked me. Giving the Overall Rating only 4 stars though, because I'd like a few more "bells & whistles" to make it my "ultimate dream car."

Strength:

Car has a smooth quiet ride. Good perfermance and handling. Plenty of room. Decent milage for the size of the car.

Weakness:

THE INTAKE MANIFOLD IS A POS!!!. It's made out of flimsy plastic. I owned the car for less than a week before it warped and flooded the engine with coolant causing it to seize. Had the manifold replaced and both engine heads rebuilt and flushed the engine and cooling system. The total cost was over $2,000. About 2 weeks later a rod bearing burnt out. My mechanic told me it failed prematurely as a result of the coolant leak two weeks ago. I have not received an estimate yet, but I'm sure it will be a fortune. What were the GM engineers thinking when they decided to use plastic intake manifolds?

My dad gave me this car a little over a month ago. He was the original owner and maintained the car well. I cannot describe how thankful I was to receive such a nice car. The styling and performance on the Bonneville is awesome. However had I known what repairs I was in for, I probably wouldn't have taken the car.

Strength:

Power...... Look (has the rear spoiler, two tone aluminum wheels, power everything, powerful look to the car, great paint!

Weakness:

Wiper blades trap snow and won't retract all the way, wiper fluid sprays to the point that you can't see very well for a few seconds, paint chipping on front clip around fog lights (may have hit one too many parking dividers) Mileage, wish I had bought it new!

I have only had this car for two months and I love it. I have a wife and two kids so I have been driving a '92 Saturn for the last three years. The two obviously don't compare. My brother decided to get a more fuel economical car and sold me his '93 Bonnie. I like the looks and styling on this model more than the 2005 model. It just looks fast. The interior is full of room and has lots of gadgets. I bought this car as a daily driver to get back and forth to work, although my daughter wants me to trade my wife for her newer Jeep Cherokee Country. For the most part the interior is flawless and very clean, I can't believe how good the paint looks. I look forward to some warmer weather so I can put a good coat of wax on it. The car has 150,552 miles on it and still moves for as big as it is. I am having a problem going up hills in it, feels like there is a pulsing sensation with the motor/transmission(if anyone has advice on the fix I would appreciate it. The car also seems to "hop" when I accelerate during a turn. I look forward to driving this car for a long time to come, If anything I almost worry about falling asleep on long drives due to the recliner like feeling of the drivers seat.

Strength:

It has a strong engine and nice interior.

Weakness:

*There's some rattling when I drive it. *Problem with intake and coolant. *Service Engine Soon light keeps flashing randomly every so often and gauges fluctuate..not sure what that is. *Before I bought it, there were new tires and a new transmission. There were also some minor oil leaking problems that were fixed before I bought it.

So far there have been minor problems. I bought the Bonneville with 133,000 miles on it because of the great 3.8 engine. I had a '88 Buick Regal that ran for over 250,000 miles with a 3.8 engine previously. I have had quite a few minor problems and there seems to be a problem with the dash light.

Strength:

Excellent power and accelleration. Good side and front looks (back looks a bit saggy). pretty comfortable. Smooth ride and good handling. Awesome highway cruiser as it gets good highway fuel economy. I like the HUD (heads up display). BOSE Sound system is pretty good. Car is great in the snow.

Weakness:

Brakes are too small for this large car. This model year does not have rear discs. The middle seat in the back is almost unusable - so uncomfortable. Too many stupid buttons to adjust the seats. A few too many rattles and creaks. Fuel economy in the city just plain sucks.

Bought this car with 10000km on the odometer. So far so good at 72000km. Bought the 5-year GM total protection plus warranty with the car, and it has paid for itself. Had the exhaust replaced, rear oil seal replaced, valve cover gaskets replaced, some small electrical gremlins. Gotta have the extended warranty for GM cars otherwise dont buy a GM car. The car drives great. Good steering response, ok handling for a big car, and excellent accelleration with the supercharger. Since the SSEi has the supercharger instead of the plastic intake maniford & plenum, it is not succeptable to the manifold melting and then leaking coolant into the engine. Its almost worth it to get the s/c version of the engine to avoid those problems. The s/c has some maintenance involved (belts and special oil) but not very expensive. The s/c engine also comes with the heavy duty version of the transmission (with tranny fluid cooler built in), a heavy duty alternator, much better suspension, and a much better built engine. It uses different higher-strength alloys and materials in the pistons, rings, rods, valves, and other "race-bred" enhancements like tiny lubricating channels in the roller arms, etc. (Check out the Thrasher EP website for the 3800 s/c series II teardown - a real look into the technology of this engine.) I am currently having problems with the transmission that sometimes slips and then harshly re-engages under moderate acceleration from a stop.

Weakness:

GM knows of the engine intake manifold problem. Repaired at the dealer last spring due to coolent in the engine oil. Repair included a new gasket and new plastic intake manifold. Gasket failed AGAIN, causing an explosion in the manifold, nearly setting the engine on fire. GM will not stand by the repair. Looks like another $700 to spend. Suggestion: Buy a new aftermarket reinforced intake, do not use just the "dry fit" gasket, coat it with sealant first.

Intake Manifold Flaw known by GM - Repair failed in 14,000 miles!

Excellent steering system, plenty of power, good ride.

Weakness:

Intake manifold went at 70,000 miles and cost $730 to repair. Radio display has failed three time with the exact same problem(display scrambles when car interior is hot). Both problems are known to Pontiac but they say it does not occur often enough for them the to recall the cars and fix the problems.

The Bonneville is a great handling smooth riding automobile with good acceleration. I bought the car new and enjoy the ride and its looks, but I have had several small things go wrong like the radio having to be replaced twice because the display failed and now it is acting up again. The windshield leaked and the seal was replaced twice before it stopped leaking. The intake manifold leaked and had to be replaced at approx 70,000 miles.

Fast, roomy, easy to fix, comfortable on long trips, cold cold cold Air conditioning!!

Weakness:

Ok, so the intake is junk on every single 3.8 liter engine with the EGR port built in, years 1995-2003. (new 2004 model has an aluminum intake manifold...well duh about time.*L*) Every...single...one... No yours will not survive forever, it will just leak worse the longer you put it off until the engine sucks in coolant and locks up. I have replaced upwards of 50 of these, if not twice that many, in two years working at a GM dealership, as have the other technicians I work with. They all leak sooner or later, every single one, it's in the coolant and the design of the manifold. You need to have the orange Dex Cool flushed and replaced with regular green coolant and keep an eye out for coolant leaks; catch it early and you spend $180, worst case is a new motor. Most technicians will look for it as it is so well known. Mine leaks too and is getting replaced, course I work at a dealership and parts are half cost and labor is free. :)

This car rides like a dream and is very roomy, fast, and fun to drive.

Roomy, fast, good tight steering, sporty yet luxury as well, strong motor

Weakness:

Poor gas mileage, could have been made to last longer.

This car has been ok for me. The AC compressor went a week after I bought it (94000 miles) and the supercharger had to be replaced as well. The passenger seat adjustment buttons quit working last month and I've had to replace just about every sensor on the car. Good points: It's fast, roomy, comfortable. It also gets terrible gas mileage and runs only premium fuel (EXPENSIVE!!) We'll see how the next year goes. All in all, I could have gotten more for my money.
