Strength:

The engine and handling.

Weakness:

The little things. Right turn singal went out, bulbs and fuses were fine. Ended up being electrical problems. Brakes are horriable.

I absoulety love this car! The V6 engine is so poweful I race Mustangs on the highway!

I went from a tiny Toyota Paseo so overall I love this car, too bad GM won't get a chance to improve on it.

For this price, I purchased a new (demo) Intrigue GL with leater, CD/Cassette, and a moonroof. It's too bad that Olds is being laid to rest for this auto drives like secure sports sedan, hauls like my parents' sedans of old, and averages 22/29 mpg city/highway with great performance (3.5L engine is splendid). You'll not find a better road car for the money. Have not any problems with the vehicle. The only thing I've noticed is that it'll go through a quart of oil about every 3000 miles... not a big deal at all.

Would definately recommend this stellar performer.

Model Reviewed: Oldsmobile Intrigue

Strength:

Excellent view from the front windshield especially nice for smaller/medium framed individuals. If you sit in the larger cars like the Taurus the front dash and wide-angle view appears restrictive. In the Intrigue the view is exceptional the Honda Accord was similar although much more expensive, with such a large windshield Oldsmobile added a special sun filter to help with glare. One of my wife’s requirements was that she needed a car so she could see over the dash and this car solved that problem. Also comparing the Taurus again the side and rear view had blind spots because the rearend of the Taurus appears wide and is in your field of view, this was not true with the Intrigue. Came standard with alloy wheels, Antilock brakes, 205 HP engine, 29 MPG Highway, Dual airbags, good side impact protection, and very nice exterior styling. One thing I enjoy is when you make a turn the turn signal turns on a corresponding side light to see the dark areas while making the turn.

Weakness:

Oil filter is different then your typical screw on type. This one you unscrew a cover and insert a paper/fiber filter. This type of filter sometimes is out of stock. So far no major problems, did have a couple of cosmetic things that needed to be fix which the dealer fix and gave us loaner so we didn't have to wait.

Quality car, great field of view with power to spare. Very powerful new 3.5 liter 200+ HP standard engine, 0-60 in 7.9 seconds, not many cars in any class respond this quick, best response 3-5000 RPM when passing. Would be great for towing and does all this with regular unleaded gas!

Model Reviewed: Intrigue GL

Strength:

Great engine and transmission, nice exterior styling, handsome two-tone interior styling, great paint job, lots of standard options on the GL, ride quality is very satisfying. The dual zone, automatic air condition works well.

Weakness:

Exterior assembly quality is lacking, but you will only notice if you are a perfectionist. One interior panel under the steering wheel doesn't fit properly. Don't care for radio sound, but the CD player sounds great.

** I can't attest to reliability, as I have had the car less than a month.

A smooth, powerful engine, great mountain handling and suspension make for a fine driving experience. I live in rugged mountain terrain, and the car feels stable and secure on winding highways (no tire squeal).

I love the styling, both interior and exterior; it has more pizzaz that some of the imports (except Passat). The two tone interior is pleasing to the eye, and most of the materials have a quality feel. The sophisticated-feeling engine and transmission seem to improve after 500 miles. I hate arriving at my destintion; I just want to keep driving. Since Oldsmobile is winding down now, you can get a $2000 factory rebate and 5 year/60,000 mile warranty. I think it is a great buy with these incentives.

Buy the Intrigue if your priorities are styling, driving and handling. Don't buy it if you expect perfection in assembly (although paint is very nice).

I am a Gen X buyer, and the Intrigue appealed to me. I hope GM will find a place for this car in another division. It is really the only GM car I would consider. The Pontiac Grand Prix is similar, but I don't like all that ugly plastic.

Many of the dealers in this are have stopped ordering Oldsmobile, so it is getting more difficult to find models with the options you want.

Similar Products Used:

Honda Accord V6 - Great build quality, but lacks excitment. I don't care for the pronounced center dash design. The Honda does feel lighter than the Intrigue.
1.8 liter Passat - A fantastic car, wonderful styling, a great ride. The four cylinder engine is not as smooth and powerful as the Intrigue. The six cylinder matches well, but that will drive the price up way beyond the Intrigue GL.
Nissan Maxima - Wonderful V6 engine, great handling and ride, but it is too expensive. The interior design, while interesting, feels a bit cold.

Strength:

Look and styling,v6 3800 engine, front legroom ,lights automatically come when entering the car at night, nice and stable at high speeds on the highway

Weakness:

Very cheap interior,Clunky rack and pinion ,Small gas tank 16.5 gallon,Bose Delco Stereo,Climate contol unit with a mind of its own,Feeling all the bumps in the steering wheel, doors not lining up, whether stripping falling off, among othther things.

I,ve only had this car about 6 weeks and I have mixed feelings so far.I love the styling and shape of the car not to mention the v6 3800 which I had in my old delta 88 1988. Quality of the interior is crappy and the car does not take big bumps very well. You feel alot of the bumps in the steering wheel.Just an overall clunky feeling . I miss the smooth ride, soft touch brakes and steering you could turn with a finger.I guess I would have to say I would love this car if it were more refined and not so cheap feeling. Oh the car has 50000 miles on it. There was a few posts comparing this car to the Nissan Maxima and I had to laugh because the olds is not even in the same league especially in in quality. My wife has a Nissan Altima and quality feel of this car has all over the Olds.I did a smart thing by buying a 4 year extended warrenty for 1200 because I think I will need it . Even if I trade it in in a year or two I know deep down I will not get close to what I will owe.

Strength:

3.5 engine, power, smoothness, quietness, ease of handling and comfort.
Value for the money.

Weakness:

Judging where the back bumper is when reversing into a parralel parking spot

The Intrigue seemed to be the best used mid sized car value. The warranty covered a transmission whine in 3rd gear before I would purchase it. Have not owned a USA designed and made car since a 75 Nova back in 76.
Since then had a 75 Puegoet 504, 79 Mercedes 240D (new), 74 Vega hatchback, 84 Tercel (new) and a Mazda Miata all with manual transmissions. I also had for short periods the following 76 Dodge Dart, 75 Ford Ranger, 74 Toyota Tercel, 82 RX7, 92 Explorer, and 91 Eagle Summit. All were purchased with resale in mind. I have also ridden a 85 Honda 750cc Nighthawk for the past 6 years. A number of rental cars over the past few years included a Beetle, Focus, Stratus, Taurus, Malibu, and Cavalier led me to the larger mid sized USA vehicle as being good value for $. A/C pwr everthing hopefully will be good on longer not so fast trips now I am about to retire.

Similar Products Used:

Liked the ease of entry and exit over the Accord and Camray. Better engine and more relaxed than the Impala. Price advantage over all 3 as a usde car.
Last owned a Miata, recent hip surgery meant looking for an easier car to enter and exit. Will miss the miatas handling and repsonsivness. The Olds 3.5 engine does compensate and traveling distances will be a lot more comfortable.

Strength:

The intrigue is powerful enough to get me from location A to location B is excellent timing. Looks awesome with the chrome rims. Bose stereo system is a nice touch.

Weakness:

Poor quality car. Has been in service too many times. Parts damages or replaced were: Wiper motor, A/C motor, Rear suspention, Crank Shaft sensor,Steering shaft and probably many more that I cannot think of now. there are also too many noises. I have to keep the stereo loud so i don't hear them.

Compared to my brothers Ford Probe GT, this Intrigue is WAY faster. It's got some serious balls with the 3.5L 215 HP engine. I wish I never bought this car, I feel that my money is gonna go down the toilet after the
warranty finishes. I wish GM put a little more effort into the design of their cars. This is the last time I will ever own a GM vehicle.

Strength:

Excellent engine, few problems (avg. 28MPH on the highway), positive steering, comfortable ride/handling combination, decent in winter (even in Houghton, MI)

Weakness:

No manual transmission, plastic trim on interior could be better quality. Brakes could be more powerful. Had it into the dealer (Gage Olds) for some minor things (Trim, door sticking), poor service. Switched dealers (Suburban Olds) and no problems.

Overall very excellent, few problems. Right now just passing 26,000mi of city/highway driving. Great on trips, tho for more than 4 people it gets real crowded. I have a 2001 on order, I hope it is the same. The 3.5L v6 is supposed to be an improvement on the 3.8L. I like the look of the car,
I've heard some horror stories about this car, maybe I got lucky, maybe not.
Overall I'm very satisfied...

Model Reviewed: Oldsmobile Intrigue

Strength:

Styling is beautiful, looks great in the Silver color I bought. It handles very well. Plenty of room inside, as well as plenty of trunk space. I like the side headlight feature that comes on when you turn on the turn signal. Rear heat vents work very well, doesn't take too long for the car to heat up, or cool off. Plenty of power in this car too.

Weakness:

It could use a few more cup holders. A light with the visor mirrors would be nice too.

I love my car. I love it so much I almost don't notice the car payment. My father is a GM employee so we have had many of General Motor's cars over the years. My family is in agreement that this is one of the nicest cars the company makes. It's a joy to drive and to ride in. My dog loves riding in it too.

Strength:

acceleration,handling,looks,interior and trunk space

Weakness:

transmission (in shop 2x already), strange fan control for a/c and heater, poor sound insulation

Short term reliability for this car has been poor. Car has been in shop a total of 12 days for tranny problems (left wife stranded). Although that problem seems to have been corrected, it now seems to have unusually loud lifter noise (yes, we do keep oil in it). We had to ditch the Lumina because it needed a new tranny (80k miles)after we pumped about $1k into it to find a leaking coolant problem. Other than the peppy engine and better handling characteristics, the Intrigue shares the Lumina's poor noise insulation and apparently, transmission problems. Gas mileage is also lower than average. Not a bad car, but the jury is still out. Also, future parts availability may be a problem since Olds and (presumably)the 3.5 liter in the newer Intrigues will be history soon. I do not believe the 3.5 was avilable in any other car except the Aurora.
