Strength:

Motor has good power and standard equipment compared to other cars in this class.

Weakness:

Electrical, rotors warp easily, exterior door trim cause sticking doors. Rear window switch broke easily.

Good midrange power, nice handling, and overall better than some of the Generals of cars. I wish for better plastic trim and quality, but this is GM.

Strength:

Handling. Comfortable to drive. Very responsive on the highway.

Weakness:

Windshield Wipers do not work well in wet snow conditions and are poorly designed for winter driving. (As are most cars!)

I own a 98 model and I have been very happy with this car. I have had no major service problems and it has been completely dependable. It handles well in all situations. Except for the windshield wipers, it is especially good in winter road conditions.

Strength:

RIDE, HANDLING, RELIABILITY, COST OF OWNERSHIP.

Weakness:

WARPED BRAKE ROTORS, RESALE VALUE.

THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAD WAS THE WARPED BRAKE ROTORS HAD TO REPLACED. THAT''S IT! IN OVER 65,000 MILES!

Strength:

Great performance and reliability.

Weakness:

Minor interior components break - radio buttons, hinges for cup holders etc.

My car has over 150,000 kms on it and is still running great. I was fortunate to get the 3.5L engine which is pretty good on gas considering the power you get. The only problem I''ve had is an unusual electrical surging which occurs when the temperature drops. GM has been unable to fix this and calls it a design flaw that does not affect performance. With age this problem has become less of a problem.

Strength:

1. "shortstar" v6(northstar v8 without variable valve timing and lacking two cylinders) is a very capable engine. I hardly uses any RPM''s at all in normal driving and will also peel out even though it is front wheel drive. 2. The magneticaly variable steering is very nifty, I truly enjoy the feel of it. 3. cavernous trunk 4. the driver seat can go too far back, this is quite an acomplishment for someone that is 6foot4 5. With the driver seat in my position I can still fit in the left rear passenger seat with marginal comfort 6. Tight 6 speaker factory system with tweeters in the upper door 7. 4 wheel disc breaks 8. governer is set at 124 9. I didn''t have to re-learn control positions like I did switching from a ford to the corolla, everything was where I expected it to be. 10. it should be quite a while before I have to replace anything in the engine besides oil, i.e. platnim spark plugs. 11. the fenders look sexy in the rear view mirrors.

Weakness:

1. it sucks the gas with how I drive. 2. difficult to gauge the edges of the car when parking, in particular the trunk lid is invisible from inside. 3. GM is nixing some of the best things it has right now in cars.

Oldsmobile is prodoucing quality cars on their deathbed. Being my first car to buy myself I am truly amazed at what I got for such a low price. I bought it used and got a great deal considering it had 19000 miles on it.

Spacious Powerful Very Unique Design

This is a wonderful car. It has power when you need it but rides really quiet. Very spacious trunk and the interior is nice and roomy for a mid-sized car.

Strength:

I have maneuvered my way out of many potential accidents on the highway. Fits a 6''3" person. Large trunk. Spacious front. Rear quarterpanels look "sexy" in the side view mirrors. 2 power ouputs. Plenty of compartments, the one to the left fits my sunglasses. 2 chips in the windshield have not grown in 2 years (and I park outside in the weather, no shelter!). Stays warm for hours. Ice blue dash lighting (not the ugly Pontiac orange). Drives Smoooth and quiet! Turning Lamps. Can rest my foot against the middle while on the gas (my last car made my foot balance on the pedal). Nice thick floor mats.

Weakness:

Suspension is all the sudden VERY loose (will get it looked at), lots of overall looseness, especially over bumps. Steering not as tight as it was. Steering wheel "seek" control fell off (I change it 30+ per drive). Brakes need turning. Owners guide too generic (try changing the proper fuse from the chart). Why can''t the back look as hypnotic as the front? 5th seatbelt should be 3pt. Try changing the air filter. Arm rest compartment doesn''t fit jewel cases (is it for tapes?). Don''t get caught parallel with 30+ MPH winds. Hydroplanes a lot, and water splashes loud against the wheelwell.

Went to the lot, asked for Evergreen, they had it, the seat hugged me, as to say "Hello!", I drove it home. Leather, moonroof, power seat, steering controls, dual climate. Who needs a GLS?! Please feel free to email me!

3.5 liter. My engine is burning over three quarts of oil in 3000 miles. GM informed me that they did not beleive me therefore they make you report each week to the dealer ship for 3000 miles for the dealership to confirm its burning oil. It has now been confirmed that its burning oil. Now GM says they are going to decarbonize the engine and I will have to bring it back to the dealership for another 3000 miles each week top see if it still burns oil. What wrong with this picture? The dealership has also been less then helpful advising GM would provide a new engine, however now they want to decarbonize it. The dealership also does not return calls or inform you of thier plans. They have an "I don''t care" attitude. NOTE: I SUGGEST THAT NO ONE BUY A CAR FROM JP THIBODEAUX OF YOU LIVE IN SOUTH LOUISIANA!!!

Strength:

Looks, ride, power, and comfort.

Weakness:

Train and transmission, and the small things, (air conditioner vaccuum doors are acting up, radio knob broke off), engine quality.

The car is great looking and a nice ride. We really liked the car, and decided that we wanted it after shopping for Taurus and Grand Prix, etc. Unfortunately, we have had nothing but problems the moment we drove it home. It made a weird whining noise above the engine. It''s very clunky (ka-thump) when you first put it into gear. The right wiper stopped working in a rain storm, then decided to work at the wrong time and ripped the good wiper off. We just got it out of the shop and have had to put A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION IN IT. If we hadn''t bought a warranty with the car, we would''ve been in big trouble. After getting it out of the shop for the transmission, it had electrical problems, the lights kept coming on in the dash and staying on,...it wouldn''t start correctly, it kept dying, etc. Has been in the shop approximately half the time we have owned it....it runs great now though! Everything works and it runs like a top. But a new transmission at 55,000? Now the brakes are acting funny...

Model Reviewed: Intrigue

Strength:

Looks, performance

Weakness:

Reliability, fit and finish.

I have owned a Oldsmobile Intrigue for two years. I was suckered in with the incentives and chose the Intrigue over a Nissan Maxima. BIG mistake! I have been driving imports for the last 15 years and I am very happy with their reliability. I liked the looks and the way the Intrigue drove and figured GM had gotten their quality up. Within 4 months the right rear window stopped working, the trim around the driver side window slid back and struck the rear door, the gear shift knob was loose, the dash was separating from the air outlets in the center of the dash, two tires were bad and had to be replaced. The local dealer serviced the vehicle well, and took care of the problems on the first trip, with exception of the dash which still lookes bad. I have made several more trips to the service dept. The radio/cd player also stopped working took two attempts to get it fixed, dash lights burned out. The door trim still slips back, and now at 37,500 miles (just out of warrenty) the crankshaft and cam position sensors are bad making the car hard to start and run rough, only $300 for the dealer to fix. The depreciation will absolutely KILL you when you go to get rid of the car. According to Kelly blue book trade in values the 1999 Intrigue had depreciated over $10,000 in just two years. During the same time the Maxima we almost bought had depreciated less than half that. GM sent me a coupon as an Oldsmobile owner for $1000 off any new GM car or truck and $1500 off a new Oldsmobile. Yeah Right. Like I want to loose even more money on ANOTHER one of their cars. Next time I will buy a Import!
