Strength:

very sharp looks with gloss blck and ground effects, lavish every option interior, VERY powerful 3.4 twin, dual OHC motor (240 bhp stock, drives well at high speeds.

Weakness:

OK... EVERYTHING is expensive.. i mean 600 bucks to swap an alternator expensive. NOT ONE THING have i not had to replace on this car. cv joints, ball joints, rear struts, tires, water pump. sellonoid, starter, exhaust SYSTEM.on the plus I practically have a new car now.

I paid $5000.. and thought I got a deal. the thing was a time bomb and i have dropped 3 grand on repairs at least. I DO NOT recomend this to anyone unless you have 2.. one to drive while the other is in the service shop.

Strength:

BIG, Comfortable, Good economy for a car that size. Well equiped. Good looking. A pleasure to drive on highways. Useful spoiler.(joke)

Weakness:

Engine, pieces, mechanical, electrical. What you can't see from the outside WILL break. It had 7500$ in repairs. Weak transmission.

I paid 1500$ CDN no rust, 119,000Km I haven't driven this car much yet lately but I think it's a good first car. I would recommend it only as a way to go to point A to point B comfortably.

Strength:

3.4L V6 225HP is a blast to drive. Great sport performance coupe with some luxury as well. Climate Control works great. I just set it at 70 degrees F and leave it there year round.

Weakness:

The Leather Seats on the driver side seemed to fall apart rather quickly. I'm not a small person, but at the same time you expect a seat to hold up to 250lbs of weight on it.

I purchased the car new in '96 with 12 miles on it.

The car has been relatively trouble free. I've only had to replace the water pump so far, and I have over 98,000 miles on it. Every thing else has been regular maintenance type stuff such as the brakes, tires, tune up, etc.

I'm selling it now to get a true two door sports car. But I've been very happy with it and it's kept me going over the last four years. Great power curve, roars like a sports car when you punch it, yet quiets down for the long haul.

Strength:

For being a base model it was loaded: Auto, A/C, Cruise, ABS, Defrost. The 160hp motor is very responsive, and the automatic is so very smooth.

Weakness:

I have had this for almost 3 years, and it seems to have a reoccuring problem, the headlight will take on water whenever I get the car washed or go thru a heavy rainstorm. They have been replace 3 times so far and problem still occurs. The lamps will condinsate and dry out in about 5-7 days and be fine, but it is annoying.

I paid around 15,000 for this vehicle, and would buy it again. It has had some warranity work done on it other then the headlights mentioned above. The rear suspension needed to be looked at, because at 22,000 mi it was creeking over every bump from the back end. Two weeks ago, my blower motor was not working properly ( no air on setting 1 or 2) and needed to be fixed at 26,000. This was my first new car purchase, and I am very happy w/it. The body feels solid, 5 coats of paint, and the interior doesn't feel cheap at all, the handles and armrests have a soft feel to them not just hard cheap plastic. A very nice looking car.

Strength:

Powerful DOHC V6, smooth transmission, nice styling

Weakness:

Expensive maintenance , leather interior slippery & cold, low qaulity interior & paint, large turning radius, low resale but what do you expect from GM

My then-girlfriend-now-wife bought this in Feb 97, she didnt ask me for help & got taken - $14,700 for a 3 yr old Cutlass w/49K. 3 yrs later it has 76K, and retail value is 6900, trade in is 4200. Replacing the battery was a 3 hour ordeal due to placement under winshield washer reservior, also just replaced timing belt for $1100 and brakes for $400, it was very reliable until a month ago. Its a nice car to drive, decent cornering, great power at any speed, smoothe tranmission, good stereo, 28 MPG at 75 on the freeway. But the dash is an old design from the mid 80's, interior has poor quality components, the cupholder sucks, leather seats are not comfortable for me, the back seat is very small for a car this size, trunk is huge however. This is a nice design ruined by lack of attention to the details, typical of GM from what I hear. This model was discontinued in 97. Good riddance. I would recomend this car only if you can do your own maintenance & repairs, the 3.4DOHC will need timing belt every 60-75K, and the dealer charges $1100, look for the 3.1V6.

Strength:

-One of the best looking GM small cars of the late 80's. (Especially the International edition).
-Lots of power options.
-Decent handling if you put wider tires on it.

Weakness:

-Many things break. They break often. They break severely.
-Problems with transmission, ignition computer, brakes, exhaust, and head gastket are the most serious.
-Many minor problems as well.
-Easy to for theives to steal.

Paid CAN$4200 plus tax in 1996. But put much, much more into it for repairs. The same week I bought it, it needed an $800+ repair. That was an omen for things to come.

In April 2000 someone stole the car, which was later recovered after being found abandoned on the highway. Whoever stole it had the head gasket blow on them while they were stealing it! And because the insurance company said that the head gasket is a known defect with that type of engine (2.3L Quad4), the car was a total write-off.

Avoid this and similar cars AT ALL COST.

When properly equipped, it is a very comfortable car. Good handling in the summer. Lots of power.

Weakness:

Anything that moves. If you buy this car, plan on something breaking once a week. This car is very expensive to fix. I've replaced many parts since I've bought it.

Do not buy this car unless you want to take it to the shop 3 times a month. I've only had it for 6 months but I am trying to sell it. I paid $5500 for it, it only had 60,000 miles. I thought it was a bargin. I've replaced $3,000 worth of parts.

Strength:

It Drives.

Weakness:

Everything mechanical

I have owned 2 Olsmobiles a '86 and a '95 and both were the biggest pieces of crap I have ever owned. My first one blew the tranny at about 90,000km due to mechanical faliure and the choke on the carburetor never EVER worked properly, no matter how many times it was re-built and repaired by the dealership. Tonnes of other problems, and that was just my '86 Olds. On my '95 ,again at about 90,000km the engine block ceased due to a crack in the block and coolant leaking into the oil.and then at 105,000km the transmission simply blew apart. That being on a car that was always maintained regularly by the dealership and babied. On top of that, the mechanics had no idea why the transmission and engine had to be replaced that early in the cars life, and simply blamed 'mechanical faliure' as the problem. More like 'mechanical defect'. To top it all off the warranty was over by then and the dealership simply gave me the run-around and 'acted' like they cared. Oh well, no more GM's for me. I'm happy with my Ford that is well into the 350,000km range and has never ONCE given me any problems except for the normal wear and tear replacement of some parts. Ford all the way!!!
