Strength:

Solid build quality. Engine runs very quiet when idle. Fuel economy is good at around 30 mpg.

Weakness:

Small back seat. Low resale value.

To begin with, my family originally owned a '91 Mirage and had the car for about eight years before the transmission finally gave out. It was a pretty strong car and we felt happy with it, so when it came time to buy a new car we took the mirage into consideration. We wanted a Civic, but the prices were ridiculous! The Mirage is a good value for a small car, especially if bought used. The car is solid, has very few mechanical problems, and drives well. The car can be very boring to drive at times due to the lack of power from the small engine.

Strength:

VERY DEPENDABLE CAR, GOOD FOR SINGLE PEOPLE OR MARRIED WITHOUT KIDS. GREAT HANDLING, SAFE, GOOD GAS MIALAGE, REQUIRES LOW MAINTANCE

Weakness:

ENGINE AND BRAKES ARE NOISY, HAS TO WARM UP FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES OTHERWISE ITS TOUGH TO DRIVE, SMALL GAS TANK, ENGINES MAKES WEIRD NOISES WHEN YOU TURN IT OFF IF ITS STILL COLD..

I RECOMEND IT AS A FIRST CAR EXPECIALLY WITH ALL THE RAISING PRICES ON GAS...IT SUCKS IF YOU DONT LIKE TO WARM UP YOUR VEHICLE AT LEAST ONCE A DAY.....

Strength:

Great gas mileage with the 1.5l/ 4cly. Driving fifty miles round trip to work, at todays gas prices, it will pay for itself over time. Roomy for the size of the 4dr. sedan. No major mechnacal problems so far. The power is good for the size of engine.

Weakness:

Would like more power off the line, but I would have had go to the bigger engine, then scaraficed the gas mileage. The non-metallic front brake pads squeal once and while.

I would recommend it to any body that wants a small car that gets great gas mileage for the it's size. The seating in back is OK for short trips. I would not like to be an adult in the middle for long distances. The trunk is roomy and good sized for a group of four and their luggage. The five speed is great matched with the small 1.5L.

Strength:

The car's suspension (handeling) is exceptional (for an economy class vehicle)
The car uses it's 1.5 liter engine quite efficently (big punch from a little engine)
very roomy
Great factory sound system
very easy to "work" on (brakes, tire change, spark plugs and wires, oil change, distributor cap and rotor,freeze-plug type block heater ect...)
drives well in the snow
fuel economy is outstanding
reclining bucket seats (for road trips) I've been to mexico and back twice plus the west coast and back twice.
The car had enough power to handle two occupents and a trunk and rear seat full to the top with supplies while going up the Colorado rockies at a 45 degree+ angles.
folding rear seats (also good for road trips)
respectable comfortability

Weakness:

The ride is a bit bumpy, but my CD player has only skipped twice.
I have had problems with the front rotors warping. This may be due to the non-OEM brake pads I am currently using.

I would recomend this vehicle to anyone looking for a great car at a reasonable price. I would not recomend buying this car to anyone who plans on using the car to transport heavy loads on a countinual basis.

Strength:

Car can take a beating, motor is pretty sound. I have put a performance K&N air filter in her and pulled off the other half of my intake box to get more air flow which helps alot. I put in some pro-long lube, changed the spark plugs, tinted the windows and pulled all of the emblems off and put a hi flow 2 1/2 in cat back exhaust w/ an Apexi muffler and she is a kick ass ride. Figuring 140+ HP from a stock 112

Weakness:

Had to replace the power steering pump, hard to find parts for this ride, other then that I LIKE.

I think if you are looking for a good start car it's not a bad choice at all, I love mine.

Strength:

Great on gas
Decent interior
Good body style

Weakness:

The seats are not comfortable
Rotor problems from the beginning
Rear brake problems
Dealer service after buying is not good
Not a good warranty on essential things such as brakes
The tires are cheap

I bought the car in 1999 but it was new when purchased..I bought it because it would be a great gas saver..I'am getting great millage out of the car and that i'am happy about..On the other hand I have had nothing but problems from the rotors from the beginning..I've had to have them turned twice in one year..Of couse the dealer tells me its because of how I drive..{image that} The warranty for the rotors is up now and the rotors have to be replaced and this is all within a year and 4months. {imagine that}
I recently had new brake shoes put on my car to find out to my dismay that my rear brakes have not ever engaged..The warranty is up on the brakes as well..Their should be a better warranty to cover problems such as brakes..The tires that were on there were from the manfacturer..I had to replace them 6 months after having the car due to the tires constantly losing air..This was a rapid lose of air..I wont go back to a Mirage..If your looking for a great gas saver but don't mind a few mechanical bugs then this is a good car for you ..Personally I would spend the extra money and go with something better..I would also do my homework better before shopping..Check out the warrantys and make sure they are giving you the best without charging exta.

Strength:

Great gas mileage...real get up and go car, excellent reliability. Unique styling

Weakness:

Interior seating fabric.

I bought my car in 1995 for under 10K. During the five years I have owned my Mirage, it has basically "taken a lickin' and kept on tickin'". My car was broadsided at 70mph by a Surburban and four months later rear ended by another small car. In both cases, I was not injured and the car was repaired. The gas mileage is great and it has a beautiful factory system. My car has only seen the shop for routine maintenance and has not incurred any other problems. It is simply a great car and I would recommend to anyone looking for a compact car to definitely check out the Mirage. My next car will definitely be a Mitsubishi.

Strength:

Visible styling both in the interior and exterior and that is not bad at all compared to the blandness of the corolla and the civic. Engine wise- is as reliable even more than corolla and civic. No visits to the mechanic for any repairs except for change oil every 5000 Km. The interior doesnt have that plasticky feel and cheapness that the civic or corolla has. The controls are well laid out and the seats in front is as comfortable as any upmarket sedan.I have purchased the LS trim with all the imaginable options from fog lamps, rear deck spoilers, side and front airdams, cd player and moonroof, ABS braking, alloy wheels (one you can live without) and all. and the price didnt even touch the $13,000 mark. Very good value for money coupled with imaginative and striking good looks makes it a great buy for first time owners.

Weakness:

resale price is a bit low compared to civic or corrolla for the reason that the Mirage is very underrated in terms of resale value. But if one has to keep it for 5 or more years then resale value dont matter much. Because with proper care and maintenance it will keep running for 10 or more years. I should know my neighbor is still driving his 86 Lancer which is basically the Mirage in the US.

$12,054 Mitsubishi Mirage (Lancer) LS coupe 1.8.
I would certainly recommend it more than the media hyped and extrememly overpriced civic and corolla.
