very reliable with a good comfort level - 1.8 liter engine is smooth and gets good gas mileage/decent power . I have 62K on a '97 with zero problems -looks better than Civic or other comparable subcompacts . Easy handling -tight turning radius .

low resale -only worth mentioning if you don't want to get 150K miles plus out of a car . Mirage prices have crept up a bit with newer option packages and are less of a deal than they were in '97 - if I had to pay 16K for one today I'd have to think twice about buying .

A very reliable vehicle that if bought at a reasonable price is a very good value . To me , it's as solid as a Corolla or Civic in both build quality and long term reliability . What sold me on the car was the good componentry in the engine (not a lot of plastic or cheapie "cut corners" parts . Very good seats in front , great ergonomics , good visibility , great heater and A/C units. This is a car that you wouldn't mind driving cross country in . If at all possible , get the LS over the DE -besides 25% more horsepower it's got the niceities that elevate the car from econobox to one you can live with for four or more years .

trunk leaks, no power, cup holder design is terrible, cloth interior is already tearing on the seats

The trunk leaks and the seat belts don't retract. My wife got into an accident and the air bags didn't deploy.

Compared to the Hondas and Toyotas, the Mirage was a great deal! I bought the car used with 3,700 miles on it. Also, I commute 50 miles back and forth to work everyday so the gas milage has been great and so has the interior comforts such as the cup holders, eyeglass holder, etc.

INSURANCE!!!! When I bought this car I didn't realize the rates would be so high! I am also concerned about the safety ratings on this vehicle.

I would recommend this car to anyone who needs a good little car at a great value! Overall, I am happy with my Mirage. I suppose the low cost of the car outweighs the high cost of insurance in the long run!

A friend bought a Corolla around the time I bought my Mirage. She paid quite a bit more than I did and she doesn't have power windows or doors locks! Also, like many Mirage owners have said - my car doesn't look like every other car on the road.

I havn't really had many problems with this car, infact it's only been in the shop once, and that was my fault. There was also 2 times when it wouldn't start this winter, but after it warmed up, it was ok. I was looking into buying a Civic, but this car was way cheaper and I was really attracted to it's looks and I got it fully loaded with low miles. The car kinda feels cheap though because of the materials inside, and it doesn't block the noise very well. I'm now just realizing that it doesn't keep it's value to well, so I'm thinking about selling it and getting a Toyota. But I really do love my car, but it's time to move on to bigger and better things. The Mirage is great for a first car or a comutter car. You don't see to many on the road so thats good. Overall, I'm satisfied with my Mirage and again, I reccomend it.

Nothing that's inherent.

So far this car has been very excellent. I wasn't too impressed initially when i sat in the passenger seat and watched someone else test-drive the car, but when we got it and it was time for me to use it, it sure didn't take long to learn to love it!

I wasn't initially impressed by the 4-cylinder engine at first, but that 5-speed manual 4-cylinder 16-valve 1.8l engine, unmodified, could smoke many cars in or above it's class. You just naturally accellerate faster than most other cars at a light, and it has no problem at higher speeds.

The car also looks very sporty (as long as you get the optional spoiler!). Mine is white, with gold pin-striping, and it looks like a fast car right off the bat.

The interior is also VERY well-designed. Everythign is in the place you'd naturally expect it, and the only problem I have EVER had with placement is changing CDs with a larger cup in the cup-holder, but that's not a big issue. WHich brings out another point, the sound system is great right off the bat. It's very loud, and it has great quality. Mine has a tape deck, radio, and CD player. Bass is quite good for having no subs yet, and it sounds just right, loud or soft. It is quite comfortable to drive, or sit in, witht eh exception of two factors. For some reason my car has everything but a tilt-wheel to my knowledge, so unless you slide the seat back a ways your legs might touch the wheel. Second, the seat-belts have never worked correctly, and sometimes, usually when you put them on initially, they get stuck or folded over.

Finally, the cost was excellent for this much value. I'm lookin gin to it, and there is a lot of upgradeability and additional add-ons you can get from third-parties that are compatible with this car.

(1997 Model) - good car, mediocre dealership, insurance could be cheaper. Don't bother with the automatic and the smaller engine or the value dips. Lots of standard features for the money and decent looks to boot.

Looks interior and exterior. handling and maneuverability. good acceleration right off the bat but then you get passed.

Gets dings and scratches easy. doesn't idle well with the a/c on. slow
slow slow! There's something wrong with the seatbelts and they get all tangled up and are a real pain!

Overall I like this car really well. It looks good. I really like both the interior and exterior styling of the car. Everyone thinks it's a fast car based on its looks.....too bad it's only got 92 hp. It's really really slow. If you have the a/c on you will get passed by everybody.
I have to turn the a/c off whenever I go up hills or else it will rev loudly and go really slowly. Another thing is that my trunk leaks and the bottom of the trunk is getting a little rusty.

Nice take off, great gas milage. Not a single problem yet, nice and small but roomy in side and i can zoom in and out between traffic, great interior, smooth ride, nice and quiet. If you are looking for a small car with space this is a good one if not go buy a truck.
