Strength:

Good external paint, attractive and stylish Comfy backseat

Weakness:

low battery life from factory poor pads/brakes work terrible trade-in value

Overall, the car gives very good impression the first two years. Then the battery died after that, problem begins. Brake pads was changed just after 40,000 miles. The job from service department at Gillman Houston make me really mad. They tried to charge me over $1,000 on some unrelated parts in order to deny the truth and push me away.

Everything! How can you sell this thing as a car?!?!

I bought this car just because of the looks. Compare to other Japanese mid-sized sedan, this car''s appearance stand out from the crowd. However, looks aren''t everything. This is the most problematic car I have experienced. The brakes start squealing after only 8000 miles. The interior rattles, squeaks, buzzes, hums and bangs. Numerous recall. Transmission shifts abruptly. Suspension problem. EATS TIRES. Huge turning radius. The dealer Gillman of SW Houston do no good. Cannot identify the problems, did not fix the problem EVEN when the problem was identified. They simply just push me around, give me excuse. They even told me the problem is bound to happen, and I should know before buying! I wonder why they didn''t put that into the marketing slogan. "Wake up and walk away."

Strength:

Sporty look, great factory Infiniti Sound System, very reliable engine, but remember the 60,000 mile service: timing belt required and at the tune north of $1,300. OUCH.

Weakness:

Brake Nightmare. Suspension gets excited over slight bumps= VERY rough ride expected. Hard to keep aligned therefore burning through tires at the same rate as brakes. Horrible design. But what a good looker! Please don''t let that fool you, however. Read this site and various others and you will know that I am not an isolated case. Brake problems for nearly all Galant owners is quite common.

The infamous Galant. For the first few months you will be genuinely pleased with your purchase. You will receive your first recall notice and think, "oh, it''s okay, most cars have recalls." You will love the passing power of the V6, but wonder why the 4-speed auto is a little jerky. You''ll appreciate the sporty "wannabe BMW" look that stands apart from the all too common competition. You''ll notice the interior door panels coming unglued, the foglights cracking, the glovebox misalligned due to poor build quality, and brake failure prematurely. Don''t be shocked if you need new pads AND rotors at 20,000 miles. Mitsubishi has a SERIOUS ongoing problem with brakes and rotors. Very short life of both components is to be expected. Second, third, and fourth recall notices don''t induce joy when writing your car payment check at the end of the month. RESALE VALUE IS HORRIBLE. If you plan on keeping this car for 1-3 years, I wouldn''t recommend it. You will be murdered at trade in especially. But if this will be around for the long haul, resale doesn''t matter. But always remember the frequent brake jobs and questionable long term durability. As far as reliability, my 2 years with the car never turned up anything. Always eager to go, but with a nightmare brake and front suspension problem.

You name it. Only owned 4 cars, but driven mostly everything thru rentals or friends owning. Traded Galant in last month for a new Saab 9-5. Superior car in everyway, but superior price.

Strength:

-Swift 2.0L engine makes this "family car" surprisingly quick -Handles very nicely -Six speaker stereo system clearly "ahead of its time" -Good amount of trunk space -Solid, dependable means of transporation, especially on long trips

Weakness:

-Aftermarket parts are hard-to-find -Needed brake and transmission work -Timing belt needed replacing -Front seat belt buckles broke (easy-to-install repair kit provided by dealerships for around $10)

I love this car! Of course, being my first car could have something to do with it, but the car does have alot to offer. It is very fun to drive, looks like a luxury car, and gets pretty good gas mileage, too. What more could a student ask for? On one hand, the 2.0L engine is surprisingly quick, easily satisfying a small addiction to speed, and a slight distaste for Riceboys with their Honda Civics. What could be more fun than watching some little astonished punk''s face as you leave his "hooked-up" car in your dust? On the other hand, if you happen to have a job at a respectible place (translation for students: somewhere besides McDonald''s), the outside luxury-like appearance does help a little in boosting one''s confidence whilest parking next to your boss''s Lexus. Always a plus. The only major blessing and curse would be the car''s relatively small marketshare. Most aftermarket products are for other model cars, or later years. This makes it especially difficult to find much info and upgrades on the car. Overall, however, I thoroughly enjoy this car, and would recommend it to all of my friends. I expect it to last much longer than the 186k that''s on it now.

Strength:

Drives great but that''s about it.

Weakness:

Transmission seems to be geared wrong, gears down automatically when going down a hill. Cost me a lot of money in rental cars and repair.

Leased and got stuck with 8 years of car payments. Transmission went out but still under warranty thank God. Second one, the torgue converter went out and cost me $1,300.00. The air conditioner went out, the dealership wanted $1,200.00, got it from a junkyard and paid $400.00 to have it replaced. Strangely enough, most of them (in the junkyards)that I called didn''t have air conditioners in them. Screws falling out of the sun visor, clothes hook in back fell off, recall on bearings. I think there is something seriously wrong with the manufacturing of these cars and we (the consumers) should not sit back and let them get away with selling lemons!
