Strength:

-Surprisingly peppy four-cylinder engine. Mated to a 5-speed manual, this car is actually a lot of fun to drive.
-In winter (not using A/C), can get 400 miles to a tank of gas.
-Six speaker stereo is a nice touch, ahead of its class in 1991.
-Decent trunk space, decent room in the back for two adults or three kids.
-Well designed cabin, easily used controls, astonishingly comfortable seats, all things considered. Very ergonomic overall.
-Great visibility through all windows.
-Gauge cluster is very large, very legible.

Weakness:

-Drum brakes are adequate, but not spectacular.
-Door handles get scratched really easily.

This was my first car, generously bought for me by my parents at the end of my junior year in high school (circa 1998). As a first car, it was absolutely perfect. Reliable, fun to drive, practical, and inexpensive enough that my first car-to-structure incident wasn't a calamity.

The car is dependable and safe, and I recommend it.

Similar Products Used:

94 Honda Accord - Galant doesn't measure up (for the money, what does?)
1991 Acura Integra GS - Integra feels more luxurious, and handling is impeccable, although the automatic transmission and I never agree on when to shift.

Strength:

Drives like a luxury car. Excellent pickup for a 4 cylinder. Roomy interior. Great factory installed sound system. No major repairs needed yet.

Weakness:

The top coat of the paint is oxidizing and my car is black so it causes it to appear as if the paint is fading. Slight squeak in the brakes.

I paid $11,000 and i bought it used from Ford last March. iwould Highly reccomend this car to anyone interested. Good Luck to everybody out there car shopping.

None- although I did test drive a Corolla and a Cavalier and neither one of them compared to the Galant.

Strength:

not much, the 6 cylinder engine is okay, and the handling holds up somewhat in turns. Other than that this car does not have much to offer.

Weakness:

Sad to say, Mitsubishi does not make a reliable automobile. I've had my 2000 Galant for about a month 1/2, 2800 miles and I've been to the shop 5 times already. Presently, my car is in the shop because there is a loud noise coming from my rear left wheel. The technician told me that I need a new wheel- bearing. At 2800 miles, this is unbelievable. This is unacceptable for any new car. I am very disappointed.

Although the Galant is at a great value. I would not recommend it to anyone. You're better off paying an extra $1,500-$2,000 for an Accord or a Camry that you can ride for about 150,000 to 200,000 miles without any problems. Believe me it's worth the extra money.

Model Reviewed: Galant ES V6

Strength:

I have the ES V6 with premium package. When I was purchasing the car, I knew i wanted the V6/ 195 HP engine. But besides that, the styling of the car is great. A real head turner. Great stock audio system (7 speakers, 210 watts total, AM/FM CD Player..w/Premium pack.) Almost everything is power.

Weakness:

No leg room space in the back. Cloth interior isn't the greatest.

I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a stylish, powerful, midsize sedan. The great this about this car is that even the base model has lots of "standards", that would be "options" on other mid-sized sedans (it doesn't have a V6 engine though.. which I believe makes the car fun to drive).. the only people who may not want to buy this car would be someone looking for manual trans (since the new Galants don't have the option).. other than that, it's a great alternative to the Accord and Camry.

Strength:

This car is very smooth in acceleration under all types of conditions. The engine is very quite and rides like a V-6 (I have the V-4 version). The interior is very well designed and all controls are within reach of the driver. The overall design of the Galant looks like a mad sprinter ready to launch for a race. The front end tilts down(the design of the body) for ground force and to attenuate the sound.

Weakness:

-Passengers in the back will suffer from the lack of leg room.

Ive always liked the looks of the BMW 3 series (my last car was a '92 325is) but because I now have family, I had to get a 4-door. By the way my car before was hunter green and the Galant I purchased is of similar color and if you want to say its a poor mans Beamer... YOU BET IT IS!

I have always wanted this car since 97. I was in the Philippines for about 3 years and when this car was out...I was impressed. I just wished that they would bring out the VR version of the Galant here in the states... imagine twin-turbo, quad-cam, AWD.. =>

One thing for sure is that this car is a head turner! I have added a lot of aftermarket parts including 18" rims and its in a class of its owm !!!

I LOVE THIS CAR!

I test drove the v-6 automatic. In general the handling is pretty decent, but when I stomped hard on the gas the car pulled very strongly to the left. My mom has an old camry v-6 with similar horse power and it doesn't have this torque steer problem at all. The torque steer was severe enough that I have completely changed my mind about this car, I had planned on making it my next purchase.

Strength:

affordable and reliable good powerful 4 cylinder that looks goods and remsembles the more expensive diamante and other luxury vechicles.

Weakness:

overall size of the car is deceptive not as roomy as it looks from the outside. lack of notariety when compared to other imports in the same class i.e. accord, camry, and 626

I predict that reliability of the vechicle will hold up to standard. The only problem that i have experinced was the headliner was a little lose and there was an recall on the headlights, windshield wipers, brake and blinkers. but other than that i'm totally satisfied with the cost and overall performance.

Strength:

Acceleration is alright, but I have the automatic. Reliable, cheap to maintain. Great styling, better than Accord/Camry. Great torque for a 4-cylinder. Tall people dont feel tall, you sink right in. All controls are at fingertips distance.

Weakness:

Automatic sometimes hunts for gears, some of my interior lights have gone out and I have to bang the dash to light them up. Floormats dirty easily. I changed my air filter and since then, my GPM sucks.

Overall, this is a great car. I bought it 2 1/2 years ago, and I've had no major problems. The car handles great and the steering gives great feedback.
