Strength:
Styling, V6, interior space, trunk space. Plenty of power. Best car I've owned.
Weakness:
rear seat space, tranny is a hair slow when you step on it. I'll start with the weaknesses. At 6'1", the back seat is a bit tight, but which mid-size isn't? Since I'm driving the car it doesn't matter. If you need to pass a car on the freeway, give it an extra second for the tranny to kick in. However, once it does kick in, hang on! ES 4-cylinder
Strength:
Nice looking; lotsa features-CD, all power, etc; highly rated in several auto magazines; great crash tests (not that I've crashed yet!); moon/sun roof is nice; rear spoiler looks cool; very smooth ride so far-of course it's brand new; supposed to get decent gas mileage (21-28, I think); pick up is pretty decent for a 4 cylinder, 2.4 machine
Weakness:
Radio reception not nearly as good as my 2000 Ford Windstar; vibrating noise near rear passenger door; leg room in back isn't the best; I paid $200 over invoice which I thought was a decent buy until I saw that the dealer tacked on another $450 advertising fee into the invoice (is that normal-Ford never did that?); oh well; still a super bargain at 1.9% financing for 60 months as I put nothing down at that rate; also had to pay $600 (dealer said that was his cost???) to have the spoiler added on, but it makes it a very attractive car, especially in sterling silver; bought (first time ever) the 100,000 mile extended warranty ONLY because Mitsubishi says it's 100% refundable if you never use it-anyone ever heard of that? Galant S
Strength:
Power, quietness, reliability, and most of all style. I bought the car a year ago for 8800 which had 26000 miles on it. Good deal and you can ever find better deals. A lot of power for this car, 2.4 litre engine comsumes a bit more gas than hondas or toyota. But it's well worth it. 141 hp from it's engine is channel to the front wheels through a 4 spd Automatic trans with O/D. Although the shift is usually smooth, but during sudden downshift it's a bit rough. I really like the car for it's value, style and power. With some mods u can get 150hp out of it's engine with simple intake and exhaust. and the extra hp really helps when changing lane on high or just simply cruising on high way.
Weakness:
engine noise at idle and the A/C button is really hard to read during daytime. You can never tell if the A/C is on or not. S model comes with really bad seats, it's not very comfortable but it does have good support. I would recommand this car to people in their 30s. It's not exactly a 'hip' car. But it will get you to where you want to go. It's bigger engine does help but the gas consumption really worries me. The stock air intake is really restrictive and reduce the power output. So is the stock exhaust. So replacement with aftermarket parts and you will have a smooth running and nice sounding engine. Similar Products Used: 97 Accord |

GALANT GTZ
Strength:
Fast, dependable, great extended 75,000 mile warranty, gas goes a long way, unique design, very sporty, oh and you can't beat the interest rate.
Weakness:
I must say the air conditioner is loud, the center console is cheesy, and in the future they should make center arm rests with cup holders for the back seat, but I still love everything else anyway. I went from a 1999 GS300 Lexus to a Galant GTZ and I love how fast this car is. I also love that I am not married to the payments. I could own two of these for the price of one.At 2.4% financing and the buy back option, how can you go wrong.I read alot about problems with service and I must say that Boch Mitsubishi in Norwood Mass, has the best team of salesmen around.Plus I had an automatic car start installed and service was great. I will never go to another dealer again. Similar Products Used: It blows the Camry off the road. I think Lincoln stole the design from the Diamante.Much better than the Alero and the GTZ is sportier than the Mustang too. |

Galant ES 4cyl
Strength:
Great looks (tinted windows added), responsive 4cyl, nice interior, hugs road at high speeds (65+) strait line. Did I mention great looks. 4cyl sounds great and powerful unlike my previous Neon. Will look awsome with some custom rims.
Weakness:
This car has so much potential. With the dark windows, radio shack 6x9 speakers, and a Pioneer cd player, this car turns heads constantly. But, falls short on performance specially in the area of handling. It feels week in curves and could use a stiffer, more stable suspension for this price. It would be great if they could add a few more horses to the 140, considering that the new Subaru has 220+. Among other things: weak antenna, cheap cloth interior, weak AC, and did I mention a weak suspension. Also, Lack of aftermarket parts such as strut bars, borla exaust etc. So far, after 17000 miles, we have had little problems with our Galant. We had to have the front break pads changed at around 16k which raised our eye brows a little bit, but other than that, it has been ok. We often look at it and have to thank God for it. It is an attractive car that begs even its owners to stare at it over and over again. Can tell you how it loves the attention it gets at the beach strip. Similar Products Used: The 1997 neon was a great car, with aftermarket strut braces this car handled like a dream, unfortunatly the 2.4 is its weakness. Loud and a head gasket that goes every 35k to 40k, made this car an american disaster forcing us to look for something more reliable. The galant cought our attentions because of its looks and Japanese reliability. As I mentioned above, this car could be so much more specially in the area of performance handling like our ex Neon. |

Gallant
Strength:
Big trunk, smooth ride. good pickup and good gas milage for a 4-Cylinder, an excellent lease car or rental, nothing more....
Weakness:
Problematic front-end suspension. (Recall for defective control arm ball joints). Constantly replacing front end brake pads and rotars every 15,000 miles. Replaced items that shouldn't wear out for 10+ years like the little buttons inside the doorwells that click the interior lights on and off when the door opens and shuts? The horn? The Fm Radio? Frozen Locks and a seized up emergency brake when the temperature drops below 20 degrees! The dealership was misleading about the extended used-car warranty that ended up covering nothing! I don't trust the service department much either. I originally leased my '96 Gallant S (no money down) without the intent to purchase at the close of the lease agreement. The Dealer installed a Soney 10-CD changer and a power sunroof with the lease and the payments were under $200 a month. I knew I wasn't getting a Toyota or a Honda! Unfortunatly I went over the miles by a lot, so I decided to purchase after the 30 month lease was up, rather than pay an additional $3,000 for the milage and end up with nothing! The car drives fine, looks fine but there is a definate lack of quality in the fit and finish. Lots of annoying minor problems that the warranty never seemed to cover. My emission sensor burned out and fused to the exaust manifold which caused a horrible sulfer odor whenever the car was idled, after it was only 3 years old. My horn died also after 3 years, my FM radio burned out after 4 years. The transmission and the oil pan started leaking too. The Auto Transmission is jerky when it down shifts, the intereior isn't very confortable on long drives. I should be greatful I am up to 106,000 miles and still running. I would not suggest a Mitsubishi product to anyone. I also leased a '95 Gallant and that car was even worse. If you only have $18,500 to spend on a new sedan, skip the Gallant and get a Hundya! You'll get a 100,000 mile, 10 year warranty and roadside assistance with a few bucks left over. -195 horsepower from turbocharged 2 liter
Weakness:
Some have called it the Japanese Jaguar, but those people are also trying to get 3-400 horsepower from it, and drag race it (12 seconds in the 1/4 mile). Mine has run fine, except for the normal headaches of owning a used car, otherwise it definitely lives up to the Japanese reputation for building a quality car A great used car if you can find one (only 3000 were made between 1991 and 1992) Similar Products Used: Much torquier than say a Integra GS-R or the likes. If you like to stick out from the crowd, then get this car. If you like to be boring and plain, then get the accord or "yawn" maxima. Chicks dig this car.
Weakness:
single exhaust looks weak. Dual exhaust would look more "ballsy" Buy this car Similar Products Used: infinity g20 styling with maxima performance with the look of a BMW = Galant GTZ |

VR V6
Strength:
The look of the car is very much like an angry badger upfront. With gracefull and sexy lines this car never fails to gain my everyday admiration. Very strong and torquey V6 engine providing smooth power all the way up to the redline of 8000rpm. One of the best things about this car is the accelleration, when you hit the pedals good enough this car chirps in third gear! The car has very good handling qualities, precise speed sensitive steering, multi-link suspension, etc. The ride quality is much better than that of the Accord and Camry which are a bit stiff compared to the Galant's silky soft ride. I am more relaxed and proud driving this car around the city and on the countryside than any of our cars. Mitsubishi went to great lengths in designing this 7th generation Galant, it only has a coefficient drag of .29, sophisticated electronics, etc. And for a rather heavy mid sized car, you could toss this car anyway you like without worries, it does not feel heavy and responds to whatever input you dish out, unlike other mid-size cars.
Weakness:
The suspension requires a bit more attention after 3 years when things are starting to wear out. Weak aftermarket support, simply looking for performance parts for this car is one hell of a task! Carpeting and door weather guards get damaged easily. Few cupholders. Very hard to change spark plugs. Very intricate and complex engine, few shops know to fix. A little high fuel consumption, but I guess if you have a V6 under the hood you would not compare that to a 4 banger Civic. Be adventurous! I would certainly recommend a Galant as long as it is equipped with a V6. As far as handling is concerned you may upgrade the suspension with Eibach springs for sharper handling, otherwise if you want a nice soft ride better leave the suspension stock, it's the best. This car could very well out perform it's Japanese counterparts in the performance department. For it's price it's hard to beat, in stock trim few of it's counterparts could hardly keep up with it, with tweaking you would unleash it's true potential. Others may be more refined and are more generous in accomodation but the Galant is certainly for the spirited driver in us with practicality in mind. Similar Products Used: Camry LE V6 - The camry has better seating accomodation, practically the same power but reving the engine of the Galant is much more fun. It simply revs much faster. There's no sluggishness involved. |

Looks good, plenty of power (V6), sunroof is nice, comfortable seats, it was inexpensive.
Weakness:
Steering wheel shakes at 60+ mph, bad brakes, transmission sometimes shifts late, speaker blew out very easily, minor electrical problems, bad resale value. I have enjoyed owning the Galant, except for a few problems mentioned above. My biggest complaint is with Mitsubishi for the nonstop rebates and special deals on new Galants. They have flooded the market with these things and resale is very bad. My Galant has lost half its value in two years. Similar Products Used: Nissan Maxima - no comparison, the Maxima feels solid, drives smoothly with precision, provides more power, reliability is excellent, and resale is great. |
