Grand Marquis LS
Strength:
Beautiful style, extremely comfortable, plenty of room, great gas mileage.
Weakness:
Haven''t found any yet and I''ve had my car for 3 years. I''m 50 and was looking for comfort (for a change) when my Husband and I purchased this car. I couldn''t be happier with it! We''ve made several trips to Florida and Ohio in it and the best part was....I felt totally rested when we arrived! It runs so smooth, you never feel like you''re even moving! It''s like sitting in your favorite chair. I love the way you can adjust the lower lumbar of your seat to fit your posture! Not only is it super comfortable, but a real classy car! You feel like a million dollars when you''re riding in it....I absolutely love it!! Similar Products Used: Lincoln Towncar. |

Grand Marquis LS
Strength:
Gas mileage on the highway is approx. 22-24mpg. The ride is smooth and quiet. The engine is very powerful. It is also easy to service. (change sparkplugs, etc.)
Weakness:
DRL module, MAF sensor and Cold-temp lockout switch had to be replaced, but the repairs are easy to do. Replacing the MAF sensor eliminated a slight spark-knock problem. This is the most reliable car that I have ever owned. My wife used to call it a grandpa car, but after driving it on vacation to go camping, she now admits that she likes it. Once you have driven a Grand Marquis, it is very hard to go back to a midsize of small car. I have used sythetic oil for the past 3 years and right now I have 110,000 miles on the car and I use almost no oil between changes! My 92 used 1/2 a quart between oil changes after 100,000 miles. Strength:
Strong car, V8 RWD, quiet, relatively efficient for its size, can get up and go when it''s needed, and it''s pretty
Weakness:
Doesn''t get updated or improved much (this body style is almost 10yrs old). Engines have had problems with the valve seals causing oil to burn. I bought this car because I was tired of front-wheel drive CV joint eaters. I was impressed from the start. It''s an LS with every option you could get that year including two-tone leather seats and aluminum spoke rims. Of course I''ve had smart remarks from my colleagues (I''m 28) about my "grandma car" or "how did you escape the nursing home", that is until I offer to race, no one wants to take me up on the offer because they know they will be smoked. I even did a tire-burning demonstration in their presence and their jaws hung, try that in a soccer-mom rice burner. The car is super-smooth and super-quiet, and makes passing effortless even uphill. I hope Mercury and Ford stays smart and keeps making this line, but they should really look into a restyling given the age of this design, that should keep sales up. The only problem I''ve had with mine was a blown catalytic converter caused by a faulty O2 sensor (there''s 4 of them and they cost 60-80 dollars apiece). Grand Marquis LS
Strength:
1. The price compared to its performance 2. Roomy trunk space and interior 3. Steering wheel very responsive
Weakness:
1. The car tends to slip and lose control too easily even on small bumps. The rear suspension seems to need improvement. 2. Would be more comfortable if there was a cabinet between the two front seats like the Town Car. My Father is a diplomat on a three year term to the US. If you walk into certain streets in New York City or Washington D.C. that are crowded with various embassies and consulate generals from around the world, Grand Marquis is the car you will see most frequently along with the Lincoln Town Car. Regarding the fact that the Town Cars belong to the government rather than the individual diplomats themselves, I do not think of it as a mistake to say that the Grand Marquis is the most popular car among us diplomats. I''ve rode if for over a year and also drove it many times after getting my driver''s license. It''s big, smooth, and handles suprisingly well. It''s design also seems to be a big improvement compared to the previous model early in the ''90s. When my Dad''s term is over and I go back to my country, I sure will miss this car a lot. I''ve been here in the US many times, but I have no doubt that this is the most "American" car Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
smooth ride
Weakness:
sloppy handling in slippery surfaces Overall, this is a great car. I am 28 years old and would not care for anything smaller. It does great whether your going to the store, pulling a camper, or just driving around town sight seeing. I must say it is very reliable and it get's a thumbs up for its age and being American made. Also, this car is not only for older people, but all ages!! Similar Products Used: 80's Caprices are on there death beds while 80's Grand Marquis are still clocking road miles. |

Strength:
Large, roomy interior and a really comfortable ride.
Weakness:
A gas guzzler!! Got it from my mother as a hand-me-down in 1996. Don't know what she originally paid for it but my husband paid $10,000 for his brand-new, fully-loaded Mercury in 1975. We have driven the 1987 Mercury Marquis across the continent during the winter four times starting in 1996 and my mother drove it every winter to Florida for years. As a 14 year old car, it requires periodic repairs and maintenance but these have averaged out at about $1,000 a year since 1996. Not bad for a dowager with 250,000 kms under her belt!! These cars now cost about $40,000 in Canada so I'm not sure that I would consider buying a new one at that price. Similar Products Used: 1975 Mercury Marquis Brougham. Both were great cars and great value. Gave it to a friend in 1996. Still going strong and he loves it! |

i get really bad gas mileage in city driving about 13 miles to the gallon. IT's a very nice and clean car, comfy seats, huge trunk, power everything Similar Products Used: I once drove my friend 1995 grand marquis and i think mine has a nicer ride to it but his goes a little faster. |

Undersize front brakes need to be watched closely to avoid costly repairs. Light gray cloth interior will be a dirt magnet. My last Grand Marquis was rear-ended by a truck. Totalled (and how!), but it saved my butt! Only one thing to do, get a newer one. This one I chopped for dual exhaust, put on underdrive pulleys and a "Superchips" computer module. The Superchip tunes the car for premium fuel, and modifies the transmission shift points. (http://www.performanceford.com) Not cheap, but totally worth it. now my grampa-mobile hauls butt! Heavy sway bars are on the way from Performance Suspension Technology of N.J. This car is just wonderfull, and a very good value. Similar Products Used: Last of the rear drive cars. Strength:
I've had the car for 10 years and it handles like a sports car. 163,000 miles and still going strong. The car is comfortable, dependable, and still looks good. I call it the beast cause it eats cheap tin imports!
Weakness:
13 miles to the gallon city/ 19 highway. Parts are starting to wear out. I bought the car from a dealership for my commute from Providence to Boston every weekend for two years. Then, when I moved to the greater Seattle area I drove across country with total confidence. I make good money and people tell me I should buy something better. I say to them, "Just get in the way of my road yacht and I'll run your dinghy aground". I make vacation trips all over the westwith no worry's at all. I've thought of buying a new "Merc" but can't bring myself to comit sacrilege. Powerful V8 engine, Speed (which is necessary to keep up with my hubby on his Harley Davidson) Handling ( the handling package I opted for is great! and Comfort, Comfort, Comfort! climate control, power seats and lumbar support. I love the dimmed Rear view mirror.Gas Mileage not bad either.
Weakness:
Door Handles Loosen easy I love the beauty and grace of this car. Many people ooh and ah when they look at this car. The faster you go the better this awesome car handles. The bonus, when on the highway people tend to think that I am a Highway patrol and move right on over and let me through. Similar Products Used: None |
