Strength:
Just about everything mentioned above. Last of the 8 cylinder RWD sedans.
Weakness:
The Grand Marquis is not spectacular in snow. Excellent value, extremely reliable engine. Picks up well especially for a car this heavy. It''s VERY quiet, in fact it runs quieter and rides smoother than my dad''s Aucra RL. Some people complain about the handling, but once you get used to driving this car, you dont want to drive anything else. I''m 17, and my friends used to laugh and call me "grandpa" until I raced and smoked ''em. There''s a reason the police use it''s sister, the Crown Victoria. This car is also the safest you can buy. It''s nice and big, lots of metal protecting you. I highly recommend this car. Similar Products Used: Driven a Buick Park Avenue, with its crappy 6 cylinder FWD, it feels wrong, very wrong. |

Gas milage in city or traffic conditions. Rear tends to slip on bumps at high speeds, but had not problems cuased by it and I drive fast. Great Car!!! I would not go on a road trip in anything else. Looks good, Feels Good, Handles very well for a car that size. Had a few minor mechenical problems. All fixed by dealer under warenty. Horn not in center of steering wheel. Check engine light comes on...no one can find problem. Original owner of 1994 Grand Marquis. Has over 184,000 miles. Best car I have ever owned. Car is now getting "tired" and time to get a new car, most likely a 2002 Grand Marquis. Recently got 26.13 mph on open highway. |

Strength:
The size, to me, is it''s main strength. You don''t have to worry to much if you have a misshap. The design of the car is such that most other "tin cans" on the road are the ones that should quake in their boots ! Also you don''t have to be buying CV jionts and boots all the time, just to keep them running. But that''s another story. The power that the Grand Marquis has on tap, at any given moment, is another of it''s many strengths. The power doesn''t seem to end, until you "chicken out"! Greart car!!!
Weakness:
My particular Marquis has developed one small weakness, it has started to burn oil a bit. I suspect that the valve seats and seals need to be replaced. Still not bad considering the the age and mileage on it. This is one heck of a car! I''ve owned this "monster" for two years. I''ve taken it on three long trips since we had it. One trip was from one end of Canada to the other, in the one year. No problems at all! I like the way the car rides, handles and moves off the line. The power is awesome, for such a large vehicle. There is always enough to pass, even fully loaded, UP HILL no less. Not bad for a car with 262,500 kilmeters on it. My family likes the room that the car has. We can fit all of us, plus tons of luggage with no problem. They also like the quietness of this "gramps car". You don''t have to shout to be heard in it! Here in Winnipeg it does get cold in the winter (-35 to -40 celcius) at times. Yet this car seems to warm up in no time at all. A very good feature. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants room, comfort, easy accessability and power to spare. It does look like a "gramps mobile", but what the hay! I like the car, and it goes, and there''s no stopping this "Old Man Mobile". Similar Products Used: Had a ''94 Taurus, no comparison,to much work to do on it,cost to much! I did not like the fact that the front wheel drive was going to cost a fortune to fix and the struts, fuel pump, and air conditi |

Solid feel, good braking, not bad get-up -and-go, GREAT RIDE. Good styling (IMO)Get one you won''t be sorry
Weakness:
Aformentioned electrical trouble. I LOVE the way this car rides, handles(for it''s size) and picks up! Comfortable, roomy, reasonably stylish (for a grand-dad mobile)If you''re in the market for a big car that fits this descrpition GO FOR IT!. Only problem I have encountered is very strange( dealer can''t figure it out) every once in a while the car completely stalls if the head lights are on. Headlight off? Runs, headlight on ? Stalls. While this happens emergency indicators glow (as do the parking lights) after 20 mins or so this rights itself. Who knows.(Any ideas?) But I am sure this is not normative, I still reccomend this car HIGHLY Similar Products Used: Buick La Sabre (1990) |

V-8''s guzzle gas, but it''s defineitly worth it! I Just bought this car recently after my clutch went on my cursed 1988 ford Taurus 5 speed with a german motor. I wanted something automatic and reliable. This car was just what I was looking for. I thought for sure it was out of my budget! I have the LS model. It''s all power with leather material. And the thing can really move! All my friends really like and I have not heard one old man car comment yet. Due mostly to the fact of my tinted windows. A amazing car! Strength:
Plenty of power for take offs from a standstill. Luggage and persons loaded up seem to unaffect the power the engine twists out through the transmission to the rear wheels.
Weakness:
Had what "I" still think as a fuel delivery problem at around 98,000 miles. When cold the engine had no power, and it would ping badly after warm up. Had it in two different shops and after a cost of about $500.00, the mechanics couldn''t find the problem. The problem went away all on it''s own, although the fuel guage never goes to the "full" mark anymore. I believe it had to do with the fuel pickup/float assembly in the fuel tank. Other than the fore mentioned, the car does well for what it was designed to do. Didn''t know that there was a manufacturer left that produced a rear real drive vehicle that was so reliable, and smooth to ride in. Looks and power are pleasureable as well Similar Products Used: Other vehicles would be a false comparison because of either age, or design characteristics. |

The ride is superb, the leather interior and all the interior lights are terrific. We like the maroon in/out side color scheme. The quick response of the transmission is another treat, along with the quietness of the interior. Gas mileage is about 22.5 MPG for my weekly commute, and my wife and I just finished an 800 mile Thanksgiving trip and got 25.5 MPG!!!. Knowing that we are safe on the road, since this is one of the last full-framed cars in production. My father in law rode in the car, and he said "nice-car-what a fantastic car you have" about 5 times in the 1 hour trip that he took. We traveled with six people in the car, and the tallest, 6''3", still had 2 inches above his head in the rear seat, and nobody was squeezed.
Weakness:
Not looking forward to winter with rear-wheel drive. But I bought 4 snow tires and rims to get me through the snows. haven''t found any yet So far, the car is wonderful. I drive 75 miles per day highway, and compared to the other car I had (87 SAAB 900), this car is a limousine. I''ve always wanted one of these since about 1994, but never could fathom paying $20,000 for a new car. When this car came along with only 60,000 one-owner miles, we snatched it right up. Rust is a common ailment of upstate NY cars, and this vehicle was spotless. The owner took extremely good care of it. My wife and I were interested in a vehicle that got 32 MPG, but when this vehicle can consistently get 22 MPG, the extra cost for fuel for 18,000 miles per year was not worth the loss in ride and sound comfort. FYI, At $1.25/gal, the cost is only $300/year for a limousine like ride. Similar Products Used: 85 Olds Delta 88 Brougham |
