Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Mazda Millenia was launched in North America in 1995 and replaced the 929 as Mazda's flagship sedan offering. The Millenia is offered as a 4 door sedan with a 2.5-liter/170-hp DOHC V-6 or a supercharged 2.3-liter/210-hp DOHC V-6. It comes standard with a 4-speed automatic and ABS.

Having been developed for a separate audience from typical Mazda customers, the Millenia boasted a myriad of finer details. It was engineered to far greater levels of perceived quality than existing Mazda cars, such as interior plastic, panel gap and thicker paint coating.

Strength:

Smooth, well controlled and comfortable ride with little noise. Excellent engine sound with hard acceleration. Beautiful and refreshing style with unsurpassed build quality(Just look at consumer reports}

Weakness:

Resale value, Fuel economy is only OK but quite acceptable given the performance

I have a hard time understanding why Mazda''s flagship has gotten the bad rap it has. The press ignores it and it''s resale is quite bad in spite of the fact that it is an elegantly styled, very well designed and superbly built. The automobile press continues to compare the S model to Lexus and Acura but, considering the out the door price, it could more appropriately be paired against the accord, camry, maxima crowd. Not only does it stand head and shoulders above these vehicles, and in my opinion the Lexus and Acura, you won''t see fifty millenia''s in every Wal-Mart parking lot.

Strength:

Impressive acceleration - Miller cycle engine really moves this vehicle.

Weakness:

No major weaknesses noted yet.

Was in the market to purchase a used vehicle after my car got totalled. Test drove a BMW 325is, and a 97/98 Nissan Maxima. Was not impressed with either. Saw this car on the lot and took it for a test drive. Absolutely fell in love with it. I never even thought about buying a Mazda. Im glad that I did. This car has just about everything that you could possibly need. Power everything, Bose stereo, leather, heated seats. Love the moonroof, nice color.

Compared favorably to my old Mercedes 300E. Impressive acceleration from both cars.

Exterior design is perfect, very smooth ride, reliability (for me) great price, creature comforts.

Weakness:

The DAMN CUPHOLDERS!!!!....if cupholders are an issue for you don''t buy this car. expensive repair costs

Great car. Cost to replace parts is a little spendy, but not as bad as most luxury cars (BMW, AUDI etc..). Besides usual maintenance I''ve never had a problem with this car. I see a lot of reviews that trash talk this car, but if your unhappy with something your going to want to tell people. Every car has every problem mentioned in these reviews. Take car of any car and it will last you forever. It doesn''t have quite the solid feel, power, handling of an Audi or BMW, but for the price its twice the car.

Strength:

Reliable if you keep proper maintenance. Nice engine, fast, but don''t race a 540i. Used can be a bargain.

Weakness:

High Maintenance costs High Depreciation Lack of after market mods.

Great Car, but if you buy this car, you should buy used with a factory warranty. I say buy used because of the depreciation. Warranty because repairs can run you a lot of money. It''s a great car, but replacing anything will cost you. Warranty replaced a catalytic converter this car has 2, steering wheel motor, steering wheel cpu. Would have cost about 3000 CDN. Other than that, basic maintanence costs. I am very pleased with the car for the price I paid. Offers the most luxury for the used price.

Strength:

- HANDSOME STYLING - EVEN OVER 6 YEARS!; - STABLE AT HIGH SPEED HANDLING; - QUITE INTERIOR EVEN IN HIGH SPEED; & - LOW CENTER OF GRAVITY.

Weakness:

- EXTREMELY EASY TO GET DENT; - COSTLY SERVICE AND PARTS; - LACK OF MODIFICATION PARTS; - LESS THAN AVERAGE TRUNK SIZE; - HEAVY CAR! (gross 4230 lbs); - EXTRMEMLY HIGH DEPRECIATION.

I owned this car for 2 1/2 years. Nothing much complain about the engines / transmission like other reviewrs (may be I am lucky?) But body itself costs me a lot of money. Very easy to get dent. So don''t park your car next to truck / coupe (big door opening), shopping cart....... But overall, it''s a great car when I changed 18" (225/40/18) wheels, Eibach suspension (springs only), K&N air filter kit, and Remus muffler. I hit 130 mph easily and did not feel that I was drivin that fast (minor wind/road noise, not much vibration). But service and parts are damn expensive, and sometimes parts need to order and wait from Japan for 2 months!! Overall is a great car, if you can spend extra time and moeny.

Strength:

Powerful, sleek look, much cheaper than BMW, Lexus, etc.

Weakness:

Part costs, dealer costs to repair and maintain.

After having the car for more than a year now I would have to agree with many of the other reviews that I have read since and prior to purchasing my car. It is a very expensive car to maintain (especially through the dealer!) Parts are very expensive and I have had some of the same things go wrong that others have. Auto steering wheel went bad but was fixed under warrenty (thank God!) and had a rear alignment problem (also something dealer should have done before purchase) which cause my tires to wear bad. Just had an EGR booster valve go bad that causes my check engine light to go on. Part was $275 labor was $50. Not your usual labor cost! Other than these things the car really drives great! Smooth, fast, accelerates great, comfortable, and fun to drive. The gas milage has not been great in town, but highway is much better. May be problem with the tires that caused the MPG problem. Looks great also, love the leather interior. I agree with the review about the cup holders, or should I say holder. Not a lot of thought went in to that.

Strength:

handles good on the highway

Weakness:

tires, cv boots

very expensive to maintain, transmission weakness, cv axle problems, engine light constantly stays on. My car is deep sea mica and the paint job is terrible it has faded, i think it is a defect because i have seen so many cars this color that have the same problem. There should be a recall, so we can all get our cars painted.

Strength:

Unique (though somewhat conservative) looks great highway cruiser great in the rain very reliable so far

Weakness:

Very high depreciation somewhat underpowered

I have also driven the standard model and it is somewhat of a joke, very under powered for a V-6 and poor acceleration The base modeled should not be manufactured Even the S model is now falling behind as the 2002 Nissan Altima and Maxima have more horsepower (240 and 260) This car should NOT be bought at its list price Mine was listed at over $33,000 with every possible option and they offered it to me at $25,700 At the list price the new Infiniti I35 and Acura 3.2 TL type S are better deals: more powerful cars much quicker arguably more reliable and much much better resale value I also drove the 2001 S model a few weeks ago The styling is better: more aggressive and better lights The stereo and cup holders are also better There is also better lumbar support Overall, the car is still a pleasure to drive, especially on the highway However, if you''re willing to spend over $30k, check out the afformentioned Infiniti and Acura. This car will no longer compete (and barely does now because of virtually no marketing) unless they increase the horsepower by 40 or so and keep the price around $25-26. On the other hand, if you''re consodering a BMW 325 or 330 or a Mercedes C240 or 320, buy this car. Those cars are complete ripoffs.
