Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Mazda Millenia was launched in North America in 1995 and replaced the 929 as Mazda's flagship sedan offering. The Millenia is offered as a 4 door sedan with a 2.5-liter/170-hp DOHC V-6 or a supercharged 2.3-liter/210-hp DOHC V-6. It comes standard with a 4-speed automatic and ABS.

Having been developed for a separate audience from typical Mazda customers, the Millenia boasted a myriad of finer details. It was engineered to far greater levels of perceived quality than existing Mazda cars, such as interior plastic, panel gap and thicker paint coating.

Strength:

Great looking, truly a luxury car without the luxury price and enormous overlay. Bought an 01 used in Feb. 03 for only 13,500!

Weakness:

Deinately needs one touch sunroof controls. Distance till empty gage would be a plus. The base version only has 170 horsepower so its a bit slow of the start, but handles smooth.

Looks fantastic. I love everything from the high quality leather interior to the brakelight design. The dash is designed well and looks beautiful...but its a bit slower than what would be expected of the size. Drive can be compared to Chrysler's cab-forward design...a sporty and in-control feel.

Strength:

Styling inside/out. Mine has a rear spoiler with brake light. Dark windows. The stereo sounds nice and the cabin is VERY quite. Great Ride.

Weakness:

Transmission is Jerky until car warms up. Front seats even w/lumbar support makes my lower back ache. The buttons on the steering wheel should light up and the sunroof doesn't even have 1 touch open/close. The drivers side power window has 1 touch down only? This a 2002 car and it doesn't offer the one touch options? Accessories for this car is limited BIG TIME!!

I purchased my 2002 Millenia in Aug 2002. Purchased at a great price. This car has great style inside/out. The car is too big/heavy for the 170hp. I have gotten use to the power and now think it's a fabulous luxury car for the price paid.

Very reliable Unique looking car Fast and quiet

Weakness:

oil burner uncomfortable front seats engine-check engine light gremlin

Car looks terrific-very unique. Lots of power and very little wind noise at highway speeds. Only noise came from the tires-Michelin MXV4 (anyone else care to comment?) and a little whine when the supercharger kicks in (very cool!)My only problems are an engine that burned a significant amount of oil between changes-over a litre-and the check engine light that would come on all the time but the dealercould not find any problems. Head Gaskets were changed for the high oil consumption but the engine still burned a lot oil. Also front seats were very uncomfortable on long drives- I would get severe lower back pain after only 2 hours. Car only had 100,000 km(60,000 miles).Traded Mazda in for 1994 Lexus LS 400-Much better car.

Strength:

Smooth highway ride. Nice Bose Stereo. More unique than the other well known Japanse brands. Was very reliably at 32,000 when I traded it in. Comes with every option imaginable except navigation system, adjustable lumbar support, and side and head airbags.

Weakness:

Massive depreciation. Only got $16,000 on trade in for a used 2000 BMW 323i. After trade-in, it sat on the lot for 2 months and dealer had to discount it to $16,800 to get rid of it (I guess this is a positive for used car buyers). Much better buy used than new (it's being discountinued after 2002 anyway). Transmission is not very smooth, is very jerky at times and supercharger doesn't kick in until about 35 mph. BMW 323 is much quicker and smoother, but has less room. Side air bags not available until 2001 model. No head airbags. Cup holders are cheap until 2001 model. No adjustable lumbar support until 2001 model. Not particlarly fun car to drive around town, though it's extremely comforable and quite powerful on the highway.

Great highway cruiser. Slow at low speeds. Somehat unique because you see very few on the road. 2000 model stands out from the Camary, Accord, and Maxma, and is comparable to their Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura counterparts, especially for the money. However, by 2001 models, their competitors began to out perform the Millenia. You should pay under $26000 for it new and no more than $17000 for it used if it has at least 30000 miles on it. Since production of the Millenias are about to be discontinued, don't buy one new unless you expect to keep it forever and get a huge dealer discount. Also, don't buy the base model Millenia, it is a completely different car and probably only a $2000 or less difference used. The base model is a sluggish, glorified 626. It is terribly underpowered.

Strength:

for a large car it has a really nice pick up, i like the way the interior is laid out and the overall look of the car.

Weakness:

steering is a little bit touchy and the sound system need a little bit more punch on the low end (bass)

first of all i must say that the care is loaded with power. it is somewhat larger than what i previously owned (infinity g20) but man it has power. the interior is laid out very nice. for me when i buy a car it must look good and man this car looks good. the sound system could have a little bit more punch to it on the low end (bass) but besides that i am very please with the care. i think it was an exceptional deal.

Compentent in and out, beautiful design, seats and lumbar, tilt steering + style and ergonomics + quality build, fit, & finish + smooth ride

Weakness:

touchy throttle, over powered steering

Awesome features and creature comforts. Great design and styling - in & out. Smooth as silk (michelin pilots on OEM 16" alloys). Powered seats (both driver & passenger) and firm and supportive. Overall the value is unbelievable compared to other similar classes. This is a bargain sleeper. Test drive one and you'll see - A+ product.

This car is great. It has all the things that I would want in a car and more, it's engine and pick-up are unlike any other car that I have driven. The sound is quiet, the interior design is luxurious, and the look is dynamic in it's simplest form.

Acceleration and handling.

Weakness:

Interior design and comfort. The front passenger seat is really uncomfortable.

Like the styling, acceleration and handling. Have never been able to find a really comfortable seating position (5'9" 240 lbs). Other than the check engine light gremlin no major problems. I might have got rid of it but for finding a dealer that really seems to know what its doing with these cars -

performance,looks,and the overall ride.

Weakness:

They could have given the car a suspension that stiffens with speed, and put in a variable steering ratio that adjusts with the speed.

I think this is a great piece of machinery for the price.I was in the market a year ago for a luxury car,and came across this .Out of most cars i test drove under 50,000 this car has the performance of a car in a higher class range. There are a few minor flaws with the craftmanship, but it doesn't sway my judgement of the car.

Strength:

POWER! Looks Smooth ride Comfy seats Well laid out interior

Weakness:

NONE...just kidding Handling/body roll Lack of one touch sunroof Somewhat plain looking interior

Just took delivery today on a 99 black/tan millenia s. All I can say is damn! This car gets tons of complements everywhere i go. It has tons of power, especially on the highway. Unlike other cars i test drove, the millenia passes on the highway with ease. MY last car was a mustang gt, so i was expecting the millenia to feel extremely sluggish, but its surprisingly fast considering the size of the car. Off the line the car is a bit slow, but once that supercharger kicks in, hold on. The one main complaint I have is the handling, even with the 17" wheels and z rated tires, the car still has a ton of body roll. But i guess what is lost in handling is made up for by the incredibly smooth and quiet ride. The interior is a bit plain, but everything is laid out well and very simple to control, after 1 day i can find most of the controls without looking. Try doing that in an audi or bimmer! So far ive heard that the millenias are built very well. So as long as the car doesnt fall apart on me in the next couple years, i would reccomend it to anyone.
