Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Mazda Millenia was launched in North America in 1995 and replaced the 929 as Mazda's flagship sedan offering. The Millenia is offered as a 4 door sedan with a 2.5-liter/170-hp DOHC V-6 or a supercharged 2.3-liter/210-hp DOHC V-6. It comes standard with a 4-speed automatic and ABS.

Having been developed for a separate audience from typical Mazda customers, the Millenia boasted a myriad of finer details. It was engineered to far greater levels of perceived quality than existing Mazda cars, such as interior plastic, panel gap and thicker paint coating.

Strength:

Beautiful styling. High depreciation, high number off leases allows for great deals when buying used. All the luxury features, but at 30% less than similar near luxury brands. Engine is not bad compared to other 2.5L V6's (Volvo S70 2.5L I5, Ford Duratec, BMW 2.5L I6)

Weakness:

Road noise is a little high. Rear seating is definitely cramped but so is the A4, C240, and 3 series. Beautiful styling makes it harder to parallel park.

Millenia is an excellent value as a used car, lots coming off lease allow great bargains on a loaded, low mileage luxury car for a fraction of new. You get leather, V6, moonroof, automatic climate, fogs, etc. for the price of a new stripped I4 Accord or Camry.

Strength:

This type S machine is extremely quick if you do only a couple of modifications. I have an intake, custom exhaust, lowering springs, 18 inch rims, and low profile tires. I bet a new firebird the other day and kept up with a LT1 Trans am. Not to bad for a 4 door automatic huh?

Weakness:

Does not offer a manual transmition. Also kinda week in the door..easily dented.

I love it...once it hits 90K please get double platinum plugs you will love your investment. And make sure they change your plugs in the back one place told me they did but they didnt. They didn't because it was too hard to get to. Just watch what they do!

Strength:

Has a very smooth ride with excellent style which is like the 2001s. Has lasted long and does not break down much. very comfortable interior

Weakness:

the radio busted at 90k and the parts are very expensive to replace.Sun visor broke at 100k. Only had to replace one tire since 1997 which is not that bad at all.

The vehicle did not cost much and has been great value for four years. I would recommened this vehicle to anyone who wants a cheap midsize car that lasts long, this is the car for you

Strength:

Overall a Great Car. Always in style. 65k, so far no mechanical problems.

Weakness:

Expensive 60k Service - got it done from the dealer for $1500 (approx). Any comments on this one.
Dealer says this is a miller cycle engine and not a good idea to take it to any mechanic other than one certified for this engine.
May be Mazda can find ways to add a couple of inches to the Rear Leg room.

A relative's comment/surprise " This car was made in 95! ". Yes this baby is always in Style. Having spent $$$ on 60k service and with in style body - planning to enjoy it as long as it runs - Fingers crosed.
If you want more car for your dollar this is the car. If you are one of those status conscious - look else where.

Model Reviewed: "S" (new)

Strength:

Handling, performance, styling(often seen by many as a Benz). Great looking 5 spokes, quiet, good radio, heated seats and comfortable (lateral support could be better). Engine is sweet but the tranny lags behind. Handles well in windy conditions, steering is positive and requires little correction.

Weakness:

Fuel economy&(premium), transmission doesn`t like cold weather. cup holders poor, needs memory seating,& mirrors (ie) 300M, needs body side mouldings (very vulnerable to door dings). Higher than aver. insur. costs, limited driver leg room and back seat leg room is tight. Revise the hinges on the trunk to the new "shock style"

I have taken the liberty of pointing out some of my observations and don`t be dismayed by some of the weaknesses I have mentioned. These are intended to evaluate this veh. against its competitors. Hopefully Mazda will enhance this veh. from suggestions from readers/owners. I love the car and the driving/handling is fun and quiet. Only through the test of time will I determine the reliability and costs associated with this vehicle. Almost bought a 300M but liked the millenia S better. Would certainly recommend this car to others( based on just a few months of ownership). It is absolutely amazing what a low profile Mazda maintains with this model. It is cetainly still a stylish looker against the competition. ( and this styling was introduced 6 yrs ago. " A Fun Car To Drive "

Strength:

This car looks a lot more expensive than it really is. Not many around so you will stand out more. The miller engine kicks butt.

Weakness:

The thin door panels suck, expect dents. And if you are looking for performance parts, your out of luck. Almost no performance parts are made for the millinia.

The millinia has it all, looks and power. Sure it has some weaknesses, but in the end the millinia is an above average car that you should definitely check out.

Strength:

Everything!! The handling is perfect and everything was off the charts. This car can be a family car or for the high school boy, it can be hooked up. (accesorize) the engine was really great, it had good acceleration with excellent response. the seats were very comfortable (leather) and nice to sit it. The Millenia is very stylish for the average person to the wealthiest guy. Also very modern. The Millenia is actualy very sporty. This would be the best car for anybody.

Weakness:

I've read that a lot of people have certain complaints about this car, but I have none. Maybe I got lucky. For $17k, I got tinted windows, sports spoiler, and customized wheels/rims. No weaknesses here.

I would very much recommend this car because the millenia is a very good car to purchase for anybody in the family. I would strongly recommend the Millenia for anybody who is looking for a long lasting dependable car.

Strength:

Nice ride. Good pick-up. Decent highway gas mileage (25 - 27 mpg).

Weakness:

Major vibration has developed after 75K. Have spent a fortune on tires, alignments, balancing, even a rim. Turns out, it is most likely the transmission. Since this is my first Japanese car, I am very dissappointed to have such a major defect. So much for Japanese quality. When the stock market comes back, I heading back to my Audi dealer.

Fell in love with the styling and the features for the money. I read the reviews coupled with the lack of resale. I bought mine at a Mazda Dealership that had just come off a 2 year lease with 22,000 miles.

Price and Value.
Dealer experience.

Weakness:

Transmission could be smoother.
Rear traffic view - rear pillar is in the wrong place.
Small outside mirrors.

The local Acura dealer was closed, so I stopped next door at the Mazda dealership. I purchased a new Millenia for less than an Accord or Camry. No hassles from the dealer. I stated my price and they agreed. This is easily twice the cars those "vanilla" sedans are. I am actually glad no one knows about this car because there are few on the road and I get such looks from people.

The car has Pearl white paint, Bose w/CD, Power Leather seats, Climate Control, Power Sunroof, 5 spoke alloys and I love the back-lit lighting at night. This car is far and away better than any Honda or Toyota (even the Avalon) for the price. You may not buy one, but at least drive it first.

Thanks Mazda.
