Strength:

Like the style of the car, nice interior, smooth shifting, adequete radio, eye catcher.

Weakness:

Slow engine, bad accel, VERY HARD to find accessories like clear sides and clear corners. oh wells

well actually i paid $23,500 with taxes and everything BUt the speed is really slow i just noticed that after i broke the car in. (You know how you cant go over 55 mph for 500 miles or so). Anyways yea the car lacks speed and acceleration. One of my friends were making fun of me cause he said I got this car and it has slow accel and his jetta can cream this car any day. But the good thing is you can always fix up cars and im planning to put an intake and an exaust and a computer chip maybe put in v-tech and maybe headers and it will come up to a near 200 horsepower??? Who knows but yeah overall i like this car cause my girlfriend likes it too so its a nice eye catcher for the ladies..!!

THE BOSE CD PLAYER IS OUT THIS WORLD! Also, the climate control is great. Lots of luxury at a great price. The car handles the road extremly well. It still feels tight and solid. The people at the dealership where I service the car are incredible. The "ownership experience" is second to none!

Weakness:

Initial take off is slow, but you fly at higher speeds. What's up with the bad cup holders? Interior could us a little more styling (wood grain, chrome, etc.), but it feels solid inside and well put together.

I love this car. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Strength:

Elegant styling (similar to BMW in many respects); flat, even cornering whatever the speed or turn radius; perfect interior fit for my 6' frame; 9 year old model with NO wear or tear (only 65,000 genuine km); good balance between acceleration and fuel economy; quick responses around town (especially with overdrive deactivated);extreme agility on curvy roads; great ride quality once up to highway speed; solid, safe feel; utter reliability; continues my preferance for European cars combined with Japanese dependability; reasonably quiet on cruise for listening to my Becker stereo; just feels right - right size, handling, power and safety. Also a real steal price wise (mine is a 1.8 liter Nissan Primera imported from Japan). I have spent NOTHING on it for repairs - none needed - and it's a great choice for anyone on a budget who wants fabulous drivability.

Weakness:

Some lack of oomph if left in overdrive around town with a/c on; a touch bumpy at low speeds if tires part worn; getting a litle common around here (mine is a Japanese import)-people here know a good thing when they see it.

I love Euro cars, though I've had my share of Japanese. The only Japanese car I've ever driven that gave me the same glued-to-the-road feeling as a good Euro, is the G20. It has the famous Nissan (well, that's the badge mine wears, but it's still the same as your G20) reliability and build quality combined with a unique (for the time) multi link suspension and attention to design detail.
Overall, I can't think of any other car within my price range which drives as well. And isn't that the whole point of owning a car? Any time you're tired after long distance travel or whatever, the G20 will look after you and protect you from mistakes - it won't cost you money on repairs, and when you want to boogie through the twisties, nothing else gets close (V8s or not). Unless you can afford a BMW, stick with the G20, you won't regret it.

Similar Products Used:

Mazda Astina - G20 creams it for about everything.
Audi 90 - close in feel to G20, which is more modern and better value.
Peugeot 505 - I would still have this if it were more modern and had a/c. Nothing drives better than a good 505 - magic carpet ride (which my G20 doesn't have)and sharp handling (although the G20 has a slight edge here). The only car I've ever cried after selling (and I'll never get over it...)

We bought this car as a dealer demo with 28,000km. I came with the full 4 year 80,000 km warranty which made it a much better deal that the brand new Sentra that has a very similar power train.

We have owned many cars some very sporty, some less so. The G20t handles better than anything else we have owned, including the stock MR2s, is excellent on Gas - over 40 miles per canadian gallon a recent 1000 miles trip.

We checked all the Internet sites before making a decision. I was concerned about all the underpower coments made by the professional reviewers but since this is my wife's car . . .

Well, you can tell these guys that even in automatic form, this car is quick enough. I find I can merge into heavy fast traffic easily and without problems. You have to watch the speedo - otherwise you will find yourself easily exeeding the most generous speed limits. This smooooth car gets you into the 120 kph range fast enough; and it wants more - try one at 160 kph (100mph for you folks down south) and tell me it doesn't feel the same as "normal" cars at 100.

I've come to the conclusion that this car is so well balanced that the professionals were sucked into believing performance was poor. Then I read a review that placed the G20t among the best 8 handling cars in the world. Then I had a ride in a friend's 3 year old base BMW(I'm six feet tall and could not sit straight in the passenger seat).

A definite recommendation to buy the new 1999+.

Similar Products Used:

90 Accura Integra 5speed - better road handling
1996 Altima - way more economical for about same size
1988 honda Civic 5 speed - equivalent economy and better handling. I just hope it lasts as long (250,000 km and counting)
1985-86 Toyota MR2 - not as quick take off but way More space, better road manners and handling
2001 Sentra 2.0t - This was our second choice due to reliability etc.. but the inside space was much better in the 99G20t. Hanldling also better. Dealer service more expensive (about 15%)but flawless so far.

Great Looking car
Build Quality is Excellent
Outstanding value
Handling and ride are best in class

Weakness:

Short on horsepower at low RPM

Comments I hear from friends about the car are all positive. If I don't mention what I paid they typically think 5 to 10,000 more than what you can purchase one for. If you have an extra 10,000 buy a maxima. If not, this is the best car in the 21 to 23,000 range you can find. I have had zero problems, that seems to be a common theme from these reviews, but the purchase experience at the dealership was first rate. I'm planning to keep this car and give it to my son...8 or 9 years from now as a first car for him. No one mentions the side impact airbags or other safety features that you just don't find on cars in this range. Yes you can find more power, but you can't find a car with 4 wheel disks, best in class handling, reliable engine, looks, leather, cd, sunroof, remote keyless entry, etc. for this price. Wish I had gone for the heated seats and limited slip available in the touring model.

If you want a great car to keep for 10 years search no more. I looked and couldn't find one to beat it. Funny how such an "unpopular" car has so many people who love it. I'll sure look Infinity for another purchase.

Strength:

The car is decent speed wise at after about 4,500 rpm. The SR20DE motor was designed for lighter cars. I wish the G20 would have come with the sr20det motor. Its the same engine but with a factory turbo. ..that would have been great. the G20 also handles pretty..i can hit turns fairly hard. the seats are pretty comfortable i just wish they were power seats. My freinds are pretty short so i have adequate room in the back seats for them. The paint is good. Im surprised there are no yellow spots on the bumper. Alot of nissan car bumper paint chips off after years of wear.

Weakness:

The driver side power window failed. The p/w motor cost 280 from infiniti. For any of you out there with this problem dont buy the motor. It doesnt work becasue the carbon on the motor is gone and there is alot of dust in there. clean it out and add new carbon and it should work good as new. Cost me 5 bucks a 2 hours to fix. The car is slow in low rpm..it needs some extra torque and like 20 more HP. I think the stock head unit in the car is out. I turn the volumn to the max and its not very loud and my speakers are not blown. The g20 isnt exciting to look at but i guess thats becasue its 8 years old. Also the quality of the leather is kidna low. Its almost as thin as vinyl. AC takes a while to kick in. Other than that tis pretty decent.

My opinion of the g20 might be a little bit low becasue i bought the car used right after owning an Acura Legend. If all the electronic components in my car worked right i think the ratings would be higher. This car would be excellent if it had an extra 30 to 50 hp. It a good car for everyday driving. It gets decent gas milage (about 280 to 320 depending how hard you drive) and isnt horrifcally slow. The handling is good but turn radius is a bit wide. If your looking into buyign this car make sure u test drive it for like at least 15 mins and test out all the electric stuff, punch the petal a few times get the one with a MOON ROOF. you will miss it if its gone. Also dont buy an automatic. the engine only has power in high rpm. the automatic tranny is too weak. Will feel like a civic dx.

I love the Legend, the integra was cool..i rather drive the g20 than the 240sx. the backseats in there are no point.

Hardware (door locks, trunk lock, power windows)

I bought this car used from a private party with 165K miles on it. I had to replace the water pump soon after I got it. The door locks and driver side window are troublesome, but other than that the car is wonderful. The handling on this car is amazing. You have to throw it into a turn pretty hard in order to even get the tires to sqeak, and I have crappy snow tires on the back. I would lower the rear of the car with some better springs, but I will probably only keep the car for a year or so. I have the manual transmission and the car has sufficent power. Another 50hp and it would be amazing.
All my friends like the car, and everyone who rides in it decides that they want to get an Infiniti as their next car. I would definately buy another Infiniti, the new Q45's look sweet.

G20 is very comfortable, relatively quick with the 5 speed, handles well, and has a nice sound system.

Weakness:

No cup holder. Has cost me an arm and a leg in repairs and it still doesn't run right.

I bought the G20 with 70,000 miles. It now has 84,000 miles. It ran great when I got it. Since then, I have replaced tires (expected) CV joints, spark plugs, wires, distributor and cap, and have been spending hundreds to fix the mysterious idle problems. It idles like a Harley, and likes to stall occasionally, and smells like a rotten egg. Not to mention the perpetual alignment issues I have had with the car. I think I am going to trade it in for another honda, which is what I should have gotten in the first place.
This car is very comfortable and handles well, but if you want a car you don't have to spend $150+ a month on in repairs, is worry free, and doesn't smell like you are perpetually breaking wind, do not buy this car.

'89 Honda Civic Si-My civic blew away the G20 in handling, low maintenance, acceleration, and reliability. G20 just has more luxurious appointments.
'98 Mitsubishi Eclipse-Again, kills the G20 in reliability and low maintenance costs. Similar acceleration, and the G20 is MUCH more comfortable.
Both get much better mileage than the G20, which is lucky to get 28 miles to the gallon. 25 mpg is more likely.

Strength:

This is the US version of the Nissam Primera. It's supposed to be a "Japanese BMW" and in many respects it is. Faily good fuel economy (24 mpg in mixed driving), very reliable engine (Nissan's famed SR20DE Inline-4 2.0L DOHC) makes 140hp/132torque, Fit and finish on the inside is well put together, seats are very supportive and made for handling. The steering is BMW level in its sensitivity, and the vehicle does handle like a BMW overall. Car is extremely reliable, we bought it outright in 1993 and have had only very rare problems at all. Engine is all-aluminum and has a timing chain which lasts about 200k miles. Dealer service is much better than other brands.

Weakness:

Extremely slow off the line with an automatic transmission--the automatic transmission is poorly matched to the SR20DE high-revving engine. Also the car is overweight for the size of the engine in stock mode, the SR20DE is used in much lighter cars such as the Sentra SE-R. 5 Speed is by far the better choice for performance. The car is not very popular in the US, overseas it is a success however. As an import, parts are expensive, but no more than other imports.

The P10 model series (first generation) are g20's from model years 1991-1996. If searching for a used G20 choose those model years only, the next generation (1998-2002) are inferior and were slammed in both edmunds and consumer reports are poor choices. The 1993.5+ mostly will have dual airbags instead of annoying automatic seat belts. Look for one with the luxury package (leather seats, sunroof) as without it the car lacks the luxury it is supposed to have. The car is a good buy because of its exceptional reliability and low maintenance.
