Strength:

Great cornering, fun to drive. GREAT styling.

Weakness:

CHEAPLY MADE!!!!
After 2 weeks of use, things were breaking off, the seats were already beginning to wear from just coming in and out of the car, some of the plastic mouldings were already beginning to tear or crack.... basically the interior is just CHEAP. This car may have a nice engine for it's class, but it certainly shows where they come up with that "cheap" sticker price.... Man, i was so gyped by bying this car... a mistake i will NEVER make again.

17,400 (what i paid for the car) was just way too much.... with how cheap the interior is made (ESPECIALLY THE LEATHER SEATS) it's not worth it at ALL. i would have been better off spending the extra 5-9 grand for the Celica just for the sheer QUALITY of the vehicle. I can understand why Hyundai has the best warranty on the planet... if they didn't the cars would all fall apart before 3 years =P

BTW, if you buy one, and then for whatever reason have to resell it, THE RESELL VALUE IS TERRIBLE!!!!! less than 2 weeks after i purchased the vehicle, the value of the car dropped to 11,000!!!!!!!!! that's with less than 600 miles on the car!!!!!!!! INSANE!!!!!

Anyhow, don't waste your money on this car, save up and buy a real import car... one that you won't be taking back ot the dealer every 2 weeks.

As far as i can tell, the only reason someone keeps their Tiburon is because of that age old question.... "Style vs. Substance" and in their cases, style won, cause the substance is less than even second notch =p

Strength:

Acceleration (especially top gear), handling, unique exterior styling, interior design, features, sound system speaker locations, gas mileage, storage pockets on doors.

Weakness:

Cup holder location, lack of a glass sunroof

I got this in February with 18,000 miles on it. I now ave 30,000 and it runs great. Not a lot of torque on take off, but I still manage to pull 8.3 - 8.6 in 0-60. Great gas mileage. Seats were very comfortable on a 580 mile trip from Tennessee. Got 31 mpg on trip; average about 27 mpg on regular basis. Get a lot of looks from folks who can't figure out what it is. 5-spd manual shifter is smooth and effortless. Would prefer wider tires, but it still handles well. Cup holder can block radio with large drinks, but it works well. I would have prefered a glass sunroof. The speakers fro the audio sytem are very good for stock in a $15,000 car. This car would be even greater with a V-6 or turbo-4, but I prefer the excellent gas mileage of the 2.0 I-4. Overall, I'm impressed. I would get another Tiburon before purchasing any of it's 4-cylinder competitors.

Style, price, audio system, handling, interior room and style most thing are standard on this car that very well could be 0ptions on other cars. If your on a buget this is a good car to consider.

Weakness:

not much excepted maybe a slight vibration in the steering wheel at 75 or 80 mph the tires probably just need to be balanced. power not quite what your would want in a sports car unless you put the pedal down pretty hard and that not good to do the an engine all the time, but for the price the power is acceptable.

This is a awsome car for the price sure a Celica GTS could blow it away but a celica GT has almost the same exact specs as the tib and the GT still cost about 3000 to 4000 dollars more. I had a 99 which didn't have as much headroom as i would have like but they solved that in 2000 but other than that it was great until some stupid idiot pull out in front of me and totaled my car. So now im in a 2000 and its great.

Strength:

First off, the steering is precise. I have experienced no oversteer or understeer at all, for one I have just had the pure, unadulterated joy of on the money steering and handling. The car's chassis (which as you all know was derived from the Lantra or Elantra (different names for different countries))is the primary reason as to why this car is significantly heavier than that which would usually be placed in this class of car (class being sports coupe). The properties that this lends to the car is that it actually sticks to the tarmac like glue. I am not originally from Australia and I think that Aussie's tend to drive like monkeys on opium and so I chose a car with the best handling in it's class. I do not have any financial constraints that are of major significance to me when it comes to choosing a car. With this said, I think that those of you that say "car in this price range" are not looking at the big picture and comparing it with the others on the market without biase towards the price. This (laterally derived observation albeit empirical)is that I think you are letting the car down when you say that. It has great handling, remarkable braking, awesome traction, ride comfort is superb for this class and road noise is kept at a bare minimum. Oh, and I am surprised it has no kitchen sink in the back as standard (it seems to have everything else).

Weakness:

Absolutely bloody nothing. I am 6'3"tall and I don't have a cause to complain about headroom. Why don't you guys try moving the seat back? The performance off the mark is more than you need 0-60 kilometres per hour in 3.? seconds, more than you need in real life. Scott Jones only does that just before he wakes up. (Scott is the man/child that posted the insightful review below). Build quality is way above average. The only weakness I had was that the "parcel shelf" string was not attached when I took delivery of the vehicle. So What?

Scott Jones from Oak Creek Wi, I don't think there was an instant of lucidity or mental processe functioning when you wrote your review. You cannot spell in any case, so I would advise any other people that take this site's reviews seriously to disregard his review. You cannot go wrong with this car, not because of the minute amount of money paid for the vehicle itself but plainly on the fact that it is an excellent performer in all aspects.

Strength:

Styling, Ergonomics, Handling, Braking, Price

Weakness:

Needs either a turbo or 6 cylender, the shifter is a bit balky

I picked up mine for $14,200 and got every option minus leather, ABS, and Auto trans. I would highly reccommend this car to others out there. I know this sounds strange but I've actually been racing mine at SCCA events for about 6 months, and have been doing really well. The engine only has about 140 bhp, but that is mainly due to the VERY restrictive intake and exhaust installed on the car. I mean, there's a Cat right in front of the exhaust manifold, and the intake dumps into a huge box before reaching the engine! Acceleration isn't horrible, (0-60 in about 8 seconds) but don't try and drag a mustang. Just laugh at it when he has to fill his gas tank an you still have half of yours. Also to hurt the acceleration performance the car is no light weight for it's class. This is because of the heavy chassis Hyundai used for the car. However, heavy chassis leads to stiffer chassis which creates excellent handling characteristics (Read this way: with 300 more pounds of weight and 20 less bhp, my tiburon outran a civic del sol VTEC at a race, and I haven't lost to a ZX-2 yet, which is it's primary competitor!) The car handles woderfully, but heavy braking will cause the car to plow forward suddenly. The car is very forgiving in the turns though. The brakes in the Tiburon FX are wonderful. Although they tend to be grabby, there is little fade at all, and have great stopping power. The back seat is more like a package shelf than for people, but that's how all sports coupes are these days. Back seat=lower insurance. The interior is pretty roomy, except for the lack of headspace. The sunroof option takes away even more, which is a real pain for racing since you have to wear a helmet. The seats are very supportive, and the controls are easliy read and used. Also, the warranty comes in really handy, especially if you want to get hard on the car. For anyone who has one, I'd recommend installing the following gadgets into the car. It won't hurt your warranty, and makes a world of differene in the performance:
Bosch Plus-4 plugs(5.99 each), K&N FilterCharger($30)and if you want to go all out get the HKS aftermarket eshaust kit. The first two will bring you up about 5-6 bhp, and the exhaust kit will drop your backpressure significantly and give you about another 6-10 bhp. On the downside it's about $350. Unfortunately, right now that about covers the aftermarket gear for the Tiburon, unless you live in England or Austrailia where the car is highly popular. I'd recommend Hyundai's shark to anyone in the market for a good reliable car that's a lot of fun to drive, has great styling, and leaves you with some money to spend afterwards.
BTW, I have to agree with one of the other reviewers, the 97-99 model has a much better front end that the new 2000 model, but I also must admit I like the Toyota Supra- imitation rear end.

Strength:

Really love this car. Definately a head turner, especially the 2000 model. Great value. Good pickup and handling. Very fun to drive with the manual transmision. Who cares about the cramped back seat? I won't be sitting there, heh.

Weakness:

Reverse is sometimes hard to engage with the manual trans.

I only paid $13,000. It's probably the best valued car on the market especially with the 10 year warranty.

Weakness:

too slow, poor body...to breakible, barely any room to move, bad system, locks stick sometimes, breaks went in 1 week of buying it brand new....cheaply made car, horrible service from Hyundai....stlye of car is ugly

Do not buy this if you are over 5'8,,,,,,no room to move, the passengers in back are crushed...heads are practically on the roof, car is too expensive for being so cheaply made. The acceleration is to slow..and exhaust is loud. If you like a good sound system...it's not here. Car is ideally for a person who wants to waste money..I traded mine in 4 months after I bought it....what a waste!

I have owned a lot of cars...this one is definitely one of my better decisions! This car has plenty of horsepower and handles great! How many cars on the market offer so many standard options AND give you such a long warranty? I am averaging about 26mpg in town...that is with a lot of stop and go traffic. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a LOT of options, horsepower, and second looks from all age groups!

Weakness:

The back seat could stand to be a bit roomier...but, it's a sports-car.

$15010.00 ...definitely recommend to anyone wanting a lot of car for a little price.
