Weakness:

Reputation, Aftermarket Equip. availability, automatic transmission.

As far as styling goes, let me first apologize to the Y2K owners. I like the smooth lines of the 97-99, in my opinion being as fluid and timeless as those of the Jag E-Type. You'll have to invest some serious additional denaro to purchase anything else if you want to turn heads like you will in a Tib. But as to the Y2K model, sorry but the Integra throwback headlights and the Aclantsurabenz tail lights, just doesn't cut it for me on this body style. To frost this cake, they've added a ducks flip under the spoiler (HUH) and two rear facing air scoops (WHA). OK, you got me wondering, "what were you thinking (or not)when you dreamed this up".
As to handling, if it was any better you'd need a four way harness to avoid fracturing a rib on the arm rest in a tight turn. On the flip side, it does display some torque steer under heavy acceleration (especially in the corners) and you'll want to have a good grip on the wheel.
As far as price goes, whats to say, does it get better than this, I'm at a loss to find a better deal! The quality is upper class (for the price and then some) and the warranty compensates for the little issues that you'll find in any production product. Service is entirely dealer dependant. Good dealer = good service and vice versa, unless you complain like crazy to Hyundai USA and get them to intervene. I was lucky and got a great dealer with a great service department, Jay Marks, Houston ('PLUG', cause they deserve it!) The downside is the Hyundai reputation (although few know what it is on sight and will often ask, causing an enormous temptation to lie). Also, the availability of aftermarket equipment is lean (but improving) and the automatic transmission control unit on some of the 97-99s had "issues" (easily corrected by a trip to the dealer for a no arguement replacement.
I highly recommend the vehicle and will most likely keep my 98 for life. It's fun to drive, fun to be noticed ,fun to modify and great fun to dust the doorknobs off cars costing twice as much (but save that for the track).
My only confusion is, Why is it listed here in this catagory and not under "Sports Cars"? Someone obviously hasn't had the opportunity to drive/enjoy one.

Great handling. Great Styling.

Weakness:

Larger, more powerful engine would be nice.

Great car, great price. Over all, you won't find anything in it's class that looks as good, or is priced as good.

Backseat construction

I bought a 1999 Tiburon FX 3 months ago. I was in a hurry to buy a car, so I didn't research the market very well. I liked the styling and performance during the test drive, and the dealer cut me a good deal. I ended up with a black FX with all of the options. At first I was worried that I made a bad decision, but over time, I become more and more attached to the car. The handling and cornering is excellent. The acceleration is better than expected, and the 4-wheel disc brakes are phenomonal. I am also impressed with the Stereo system. If you are in the market for a Tiburon, make sure you get the Premium Stereo Package, it really makes a big difference in a good way... The only complaint I really have is the construction of the backseat. It is connected loosely on the edges, and the back floor/wall panel feels cheap... but it is a minor complaint. Overall, it's a great car, with a sporty, curved design and above par performance. An excellent buy.

Strength:

Dirt cheap. Didn't purchase any options, but the car came with everything I needed (except airbags -- not required by law in Korea:P ) -- CD Player, keyless entry, ABS. The only options were leather (too hot here in the summer), moonroof, and airbags (you can only opt for airbags if you purchase the leather and moonroof options (what the hell is that?!?). Anyhow, compared with other cars offered out here in Korea, the car is relatively quick.

Weakness:

First of all, there are way too many unnecessary accessories. For instance, the non-functional side vents (that do what?) that do nothing except get scratched and like 10 lights up front! Mine came needing its alignment adjusted. It has poor fuel economy. The suspension is too soft.

For the money, the car is great. Although I got mine pretty much no frills, it has everything I need. Although I wish the styling were a little more understated, it isn't bad, especially compared with what Hyundai was pumping out a few years ago (ie. Scoupe!). I haven't had any major problems with the car. Haven't had to take it into the shop. Guess I was lucky. My only gripes are that the car is all fluff, but no substance. I'm not sure about reliability yet because I've only had the car for about 7 months. It's a little rough around the edges, but for the price, it's something that I can overlook. It's not my Honda, which is super smooth and quiet. But it also doesn't cost $25k.

Way cool styling, awesome handling, moderate power, very nice amentities. Stock stereo will suit most peoples needs.

Weakness:

The dang seat belt in mine has a problem retracting, otherwise thats it, I've had this car for 2 years and 60,000 miles, and she hasn't had a problem yet, Check engine came on once, took it down to the dealer ship and it was just the Tiburon's way of telling me time for a tune up. She's never spent less then a day in the shop, in 2 years, 60,000 miles, damn reliable! Put gas in it, change the oil, rotate tires, and i think any tiburon will outlast it's warenty.

I have Enjoyed this car since day one.

LOVE THE 2000 BODY STYLE MUCH MORE BUT PREVIOS ONES LOOK GREAT TOO.

Weakness:

AFTER MARKET PERFOMANCE PARTS ARE HARD TO FIND BUT ARE STARTING TO BE PRODUCED. CHECK OUT WWW.MHPTUNING.COM AND WWW.SHARKRACING.COM.

THE CAR IS FAST. EVERYONE I HAVE TALKED TO LOVES IT. THE WARANTEE CAN'T BE BEAT. I HIGHLY RECOMEND LOOKING AT THE 2000+ HYUNDAIS THEY REALY HAVE ADDED ALOT OF VALUE TO THEIR CARS. AND REMEMBER DON'T EXPECT TO GET A NEW BMW FOR THE PRICE OF A HYUNDAI.

nice looking, but that could be a weaknesses, because when people come up to me and say hey nice car, i tell them what a piece of junk it is.

Weakness:

after reading the other reviews, i wont bother to tell you about the cup holders, thats the lest of its problems.

2 days after i got it i turned down the stereo and noticed the nosiey dash, back to the dealer
6000 km the engine was sputering, back to the dealers
10000 km both front parking light lenses craked from closeing the hood, back to the dealer
15000 km the wheel bareing went, back to the dealer, i mean realy, they must make them out of the same cheap plastic as the dash.
16000 km i just got it inspected, it needed a few little things like wipper blades, lights, the wippers that they put on scatched the hell out of my windshield.
well what can you do, it`s my mistake, i should have known better then to buy a hyudnai.

Strength:

Looks like a 95 Celica with Corvette front headlights, giving it very impressive styling, though the spoiler does add to its attractiveness. Interior is sexy, Batman like, car moves when you want it to.

Weakness:

Seatbelts tangle and don't retract properly, at least on the drivers side, engine is unnecessarily noisy, particularily when you're driving locally-that's also when you realize the dashboard rattles like mad (it's the cheap plastic that covers the speedometer!), the shifting of the automatic transmission works like a sixteen year old Mustang in its 16th year!, visibility from certain angles is difficult, making it a chore to park the damned thing on the street, suspension is weak, though usually typical of sports cars.

I have owned the car for more than ten months and have brought it in for minor difficulties, such as a noisy engine, interior, spastic seatbelt, etc. and these things obviously could not be repaired. In fact, the service station I bring it to is so imcompetent and full of crap at times (free oil change for the 1st 5 years of the vehicle, but they charge you $20 to check tire pressue, etc.), I would prefer them not to tamper with anything minor in fear that they will worsen the problem. Also, the paint job is scratching very easily, along with tar and tree sap stuck to the paint, though the dealership supposedly glazed the entire exterior to protect it from tree sap, tar and minor scratches. When I approach them with the issue, thy avoid it altogether. Despite all of the negativity I have spewed about this car, I enjoy driving it immensely, I like all of the toys (sunroof, power windows, powerful stereo system), enjoy the speed on the highway and everytime I leave the car, I always turn around to look at it proudly, like a wife you haven't tired of and you're still very much in love with. Good value for the money, though after viewing other reviews, I realize I was stiffed at seventeen five. Oh, well. Would I probably buy another? Doubtful, but I intend on enjoying what I have for what it's worth.

The acceleration (not bad for a little four banger), visual appearance, room, interior, the comfortable feeling I get in that car, the options you have with it, and the mileage.

Weakness:

Most defintely the cup holders! The back seat could at least be big enough to fit one more person, The ratteling noise of the hatchback, engine, and the dash board, and cheap paint job.

The Hyundai Tiburon is a great teenage car to start off with. I wanted something sporty, cheap, and reliable. This was the perfect car. At first I wanted a Toyota Celica, then I found out about this car. It was a lot cheaper than a used celica and it did look cuter. I love the body; its original and a teenage (or young) style. I have had it for over 3 months and I can honestly say I would buy another one in the near future. You can't get such a cute sporty car for that kind of price anymore!

Snazzy V-16 engine is the cream of the crop. The extra power switch transforms this amazing vehicle into a street legal NasCar. To get to amazing speed with this car you dont have to be Jeff Gordon the engine does it all. My 200 watt full logic system comes with outstanding subs and tweeters that turn heads everywhere i go. The Mcfearson struts and the sports suspension make my $12,000 tibby into a 67 vett'.

All the insults i recieve with this car makes it a risk to buy. Some of these problems include an engine that sounds like a swarm of bees.I have tried 2 snazz up my car with stickers that are very tasteful but there just not cutting it according to my boys.
