Model Reviewed: Elantra GT

Strength:

Price, styling, warranty, gobs of standard options, overall driveability, cheap to insure

Weakness:

Fixed mast antenna annoys me (why can''t it be integrated?), no V-6 option

This car has been a blessing. I just graduated from college, and needed something to get me around that I could afford. Enter the Elantra GT. Moonroof, leather, CD, ABS, etc. Every possible option. I have had nothing but good luck with this car. It drives beautifully, feels solid as a Honda or Nissan, and has a hell of a great warranty. I can''t believe how much I like this car!

EVERYTHING

The problems I have had with my car I will never own another hyundia again. First off my rear suspension bar was bent and it made me have a blow out going down the road it didnt even have 18,000 miles on it then.next I had to have the brakes replace and to find out the brakes on my "new " car were defective which i have the orginal ones that came off for evidence. My check engine light comes on for no apparent reason , my trunk would not pop not to mention my door handle broke and i could open the car from the insideand to top it off i was coming home from work and the engine shut down on me.My car got towed to a dealership to be fixed they thought they had it fixed 3 different times and everytime they told me it was fixed it broke down with them and they had to tow it right back up there again. It took them over a week to fix it and they really did not want to give me something to drive while my car was being fixed but they did.the problems that were wrong with my car was this the computer went bad so they put a new computer in it the alternator was gone they replace that the wiring harness messed up they replaced that some fuses were gone they replaced them and also something about my battery.NOw all of this costed them over 2,000 dollars not incl. labor thank god it is still under warrenty because if it wasn''t how could i pay all of that?this happened when there was 30,000 mile on it the car will be 2 years old in oct 2001.check this out when i got the car back i went to check my mail and put my window down the D thing will not go back up now so im stuck with a window that will not go up till i can get to a dealship to fix it... if u own a hyundia and have had problems with it please e mail me a sherriberry1@hotmail.com and maybe together we can do something about the defective cars. thank you!!!! sherri smith

Strength:

Reliability, comfort, quietness and all the extras for not much cash.

Weakness:

Three things my car is a manual I find it hard to get into second gear unless you pause a little and let the revs die back before changing into second. The accelerator is a bit spongy feeling and it isn,t very responsive. The front brake pads or suspension rattles a bit on gravel or corrugated roads.

I have owned the Elantra GLS for 9 months now, was a bit worried at first about the reliability of the car but haven,t had any major problems at all. Sure the car isn''t perfect but none are. I,m frilled that it hasn''t caused me any headaches and it is reliable.

Tried Mazda, Toyota,Opel and Nissan, the Elantra is as good as these cars and as the months go by I''m gaining more confidence in the car.No car is perfect even the Japanese ones have faults but I''m

Strength:

Reliable, gas milage, comfortable on long rides. Interior is not cheap like other cars in the same price range.

Weakness:

This model doesn''t have all the electric features (locks, windows or even a rear window wiper)did not come with this model in 1997. Window tend to creep down on their own.

130,000 miles and nothing but routine maintenance. I change the oil every 3000 miles. Gas milage is 33-43 MPG. Handles great in all kinds of weather. A SUPER value for the money. It has treated me so well that I just bought another one. I was driving about 1000 miles per week and the car never complained.

Good design. Good mileage and accleration with 5 speed.

Weakness:

Tan/green interior looks weird. Seats a little hard for long trips. Wondering how it''s going to hold up in the long run??????

I''ve just put 1,200 on my new Elantra on a trip to Memphis. I got about 37 mpg..not bad at all. Cruise control was very easy to use. Sound system was great. I just installed a english burlwood dashboard kit and have received compliments on it. Will install aftermarket rims next. My car is white with a rear spoiler and moonroof. So far so good.

Strength:

Sleek looking from a distance.

Weakness:

Built cheap, not made to last long.

I have had the car 6 months now, many interior item are wearing out already, which I am told are not covered under the warranty, charging system does not function properly, wheel bearing out on left front already. They brag up the warranty big time, but when it comes to fixing the car I am finding out that the warranty is for crap, never will I buy a car from Hyundai again! I will tell every one that I know not to buy one either.

Great on gas, looks good. AC, Cruise, Keyless, 5spd, power everything, 100k mile warantee, brand new for $12,650 - can''t be beat!

Weakness:

Have had problem with right front speaker rattle, other than that, great.

I just pushed my elantra over the 1000 mile mark. It gets great gas mileage (39-41 hwy going 70) and 30 around town. The 2.0L 140HP engine is is also very fast for such a light car, which is why I went with the elantra. The stock sound system is superb and everything is quality inside (not too cheap feeling).

Strength:

Smooth quiet ride, good passing power, good CD/Radio sound, nice interior layout

Weakness:

Windshield distortion!!! No your eyesight isn''t going bad, you''ve been driving an Elantra for more than 10 minutes, just pull over and close them for about 5 minutes.

The Elantra seems to be a well made car with a lot of nice features for the money, with one exception, the totally ridiculous amount of windshield distortion!!! I went back to the dealer to see if the other Elantras have this problem and they all do. It was supposed to be my turn to get a new car, my wife got the last one, but after three weeks of feeling like i''m getting eyestrain from watching things go by through a rippled wavy fishbowl, I asked her if she wanted to trade cars. She has a much shorter drive to work and isn''t the type to take long rides listening to the radio so the defective glass probably won''t bother her as much. A comparably equipped Honda Civic would of been a couple thousand more and wouldn''t of had some of the nice features that the Elantra has, but at least i wouldn''t be looking through a windshield that most other car companies would have rejected as defective!

Model Reviewed: Elantra (manual)

Strength:

The back lights are tight. Tight handling, turn the steering wheel a little, and your doing a u-turn. It won't flip over, I pull up the emergency break all the time, usually at about 45-60, and still it lives. The clutch peddle doesn't have to be pressed down far at all to change gears. Maxes out at arround 50 in reverse.

Weakness:

The clutch needs to be replaced after 100k miles, Plastic pieces break too easy. Blew out one stock rear speaker. Just about no one makes a body kit for the 93 Elantra. If anyone knows where please tell me.

The Elantra of 93 rules. This is a fast ride. I have raced three cars, 2001 honda civic CRV, a little Saturn, and a ford Taurus, all of them I won. It's a lightweight car with enough engine to kick it into gear. The fastest I've gotten it up too is 122, It could go higher on a longer stretch, maybe 130 tops. Also I have put this car through a lot. I am mean to cars I drive, and this one won't bite the dust. It takes turns great too, also It's small so you can zip in and out of traffic.

well it's a car of it's own kind. Nothing campares to it. (kind of in a bad and good way)
