Good value for the money - where else can you get reliable basic transportation and a stellar warranty for under $9000 new? Great mileage - nearly 40 mpg on the highway. Good reliability. Hyundai is making rapid progress in this critical area. Nice, clean styling both inside and out, and comfortable to drive even on long trips.
Weakness:
Body sheet metal easily scratched and dents. Buggy "check engine" light, although its behaviour is very predictable! Service can be slow if spare parts must be shipped to the dealership. Pray that the dealer has what you need already in stock! I'm just shy of 45,000 miles on my 2000 Accent. It's very basic transportation - 5 speed, no air, stock radio. The car, although usually very reliable, has not been completely trouble free - at 41,000 miles, the shifter linkage broke. The dealership fixed it for free under the Hyundai warranty, although it did take a full week for the parts to arrive here in eastern Idaho. Hyundai probably should decentralise its spare parts warehousing, and move the parts closer to its dealerships' garages. The "check engine" light sometimes comes on when I'm coasting toward a stop. It nearly always switches back off after I re-accelerate. I'm not sure why the check engine light act like this, but I've never bothered the dealership about it, since the car keeps plugging along. The body sheet metal is thin, and scratches and dents easily; but with the car weighing in at a mere 1900 pounds, this is probably to be expected. I've owned a 1974 Toyota Corolla - a similarly light car - which exhibited the same characteristics. The acceleration is about what one would expect from a 92 horsepower, 1.5 litre SOHC cam engine - adequate, but nothing more. The flip side is that I get very good mileage - close to 40 mpg - on the highway. With petrol now at $1.50 a gallon, this is a trade-off I'm willing to make. For a subcompact, the Accent is surprisingly comfortable for me, since I'm well over six feet tall and about 200 pounds. The interior fittings and fabric are pleasing, and have held up well thus far. The instrument cluster and dash layout are simple and straighforward. Visiblity while driving is decent, although the small rear side windows don't help (it would also be nice if those windows would pop open instead of being fixed shut!) Handles well at higher speeds. The boot is spacious for a small car, and the rear seat folds forward easily for even more cargo space. Hyundai, probably to cut costs, omitted a remote boot hatch lever; a pity, since the result is considerable inconvenience. Shade-tree type maintenance is very easy - oil and filter changes, topping up fluids, swopping out spark plugs, all are straighforward and accessible. A halfway-decent home mechanic could probably keep an Accent running nearly forever. Suffice it to say that, while not yet up to first-line Japanese quality, the Accent is still a very good car for the money! Strength:
- good gas mileage - good reliability - good in winter - it seems that from other reviews I've read that the 95's are better than the 96 models which is weird since 95 was the first year for the accent
Weakness:
small finishing touches are cheap pain in the butt to change brake rotors and work on yourself After 7 years and 166,000km I can honestly say that this car has been a good buy. I have put very little money into this car, have never seen an engine light and it has never left me stranded in a snow storm. Things are stating to wear out but she doesn't owe me a cent. You can drive it. Only purchase it if you have absolutely no choice...AT ALL!
Weakness:
Cheaply made and the WORSE customer service ever. The car itself is a cheaply made product but when it comes to repairs, mechanics have to order it from hyundai, which aren't cheap. The engine light came on after a couple of hundred miles. The cassette player stopped working after a year, the driver side seat's spring popped out after 1 year and the cassette player doesn't work...after one year. The customer service center is the absolute worse and you can never speak with a manager nor do they return your call after leaving them a message...not even months later. They don't keep record of what was said, just who took the call or called your house to speak rudely to your children and hang up on them. Even after resolving an issue over the phone, three months later, the EXACT same issue re-appears that was supposedly taken care of and you still end up losing because no matter how offten you prove the rep wrong and they admit it, they won't change it. That is, after waiting 30 minutes for the rep to listen. When purchasing the vehicle, I was told I could come back at anytime to install the alarm system but it was only opened on Tuesdays from 10 am - 2 pm. That's not possible if you work. After the finally changed the installation hours (over a year later), they said that I couldn't get it installed because the sales person and finance person no longer works there. |

Nice exterior ok interior. All the reviews i have read say this car is slow. I have a stick, and if you drive it right it is acctually really quick. I have raced a 97 mustang v6 off the line and was dead even to 70mph. It is also quicker then any year ford probe. Top speed is 120mph,thats as fast as i could get mine.I figure have fun with this car, hell, it has a 10 year warranty. Also runs much better on 89 octane rating gas.
Weakness:
cheap feeling (everything)it is slow if you drive it normal. This car is very average. I would have got somthing different if i could do it over. suprise it is fast! Take 1st to 20mph 2nd to 45mph 3rd to 70mph Similar Products Used: tonka toy |

it starts. the radio works. i haven't been left stranded yet.
Weakness:
check engine light comes on. dealership can't find the problem. This car has been a headache since I bought it new 2 months ago. The check engine light came on at around 400 miles. I've had it serviced several times for the problem...and they can't seem to figure out the problem. The light is still on at 2500 mi. To warn any potential buyers, there is a $50 diagnostic fee from the dealership. My advise...buy another car. Similar Products Used: toyota echo ford focus |

The power of the engin is very good. I always drive it to 90 mph. It won't shake. It also has very good design. EX, you can adjust the driver seat's back; the harzard light button is very easy to find and turn on...
Weakness:
I'm not saitisfied about the 37 MPG. You know my Ford escort is 36 MPG. My accent is Accent L. It's a shift car without AC and CC, BUT I love it. Similar Products Used: 1997 Ford Escort LX |

Great car for the money. Compact and you can park even in small spaces. Good on gas. Cheap to maintain.
Weakness:
No power going up hills. Not a family sized car. Not a smooth or quiet drive on freeways. This is my third Hyundai. The car has been great to us. Only had one problem with the air conditioner, but I live in AZ where it is 120 degrees! The warranty fully covered the replacement. Similar Products Used: 1988 Hyundai Excel 1996 Hyundai Accent |

Higher end styling when compared to anything in its class. Great stereo (optional) Power package is great. Great on gas. Loads of trunk space.
Weakness:
Dings and dent fairly easily. Could stand a few more horses. Higher quality materials needed for interior. Baby sized tires. Body flex too harsh at higher speeds. This car is my first new car and I absolutly love it. The price wasn't so bad considering it was all optioned out. Similar Products Used: Toyota Tercel |

The absolute worst denting vehicle I have ever owned . The stereo sysytem is the worst I have ever heard also I mean the thing sounds terrible I spent alot of money to upgrade the stereo because even for a factory system it is the worst I have ever heard . terrible terrible stereo . well this car has been pretty good to us no problems at all mechanically we have just about 30.000 miles on it and will be bringing it in for its first scheduled service from the dealer at 30k . what I do have a major problem with is that this thing dents so easy its scary and scratches just as easily . also as others have said the window seals dont quite seal right ..you can hear wind coming in at about 65 mph. overall I like this car and have no regrets buying it . Would I buy another . Nope just because its seems to be made of tinfoil. Would I buy another hyundai? I would buy the santa fe but thats about all they sell that seems to be getting decent reveiws here . Similar Products Used: Pontiac sunfire..
