Strength:
-The new 1.6L engine feels like it has more kick. -Pleasing interior with soft fabric and comfortable seats. -Good system for listening to soft tunes and the blues. -Over-drive which isn't offered in any similarly priced cars. -Awesome gas mileage. -Fun handling, very limited body roll, although hard cornering is not recommended as the tires cannot handle it. -I get excellent service at the dealership.
Weakness:
-Hard to pass people on the highway, but I've only been on the highway twice. -People give me a hard time about buying Hyundai, but I think I've made the correct choices. -Small wheels. -Jarring over large bumps and potholes. I purchased this car only 2 weeks ago but I immediately fell in love with it. I was in for a regular check-up for my Elantra GT when I seen the new Accent parked out the front of the dealership. I started taking a look at it, and I found that there were some interesting things done to the car now. The interior had soft and comfortable seats, the fabric on the door was pleasing to the touch, the cupholders were nicely placed, and all in all, it felt like a sturdy car. I was really surprised. I personally didn't like the styling of the older Accent models but the car looked really good, like a genuine sedan. Well, I got my wife in to take a look at it and she fell in love with it too. We signed the papers a few days later and we were the proud new owners of a Hyundai Accent. |

worth nothing, therefor not a good envestment. i would rather put my money twards something that will have some value when i'm done paying for it! I thought that it was a good deal when i was looking into it. i had looked at other useded cars that were the same price. But it being bran new ,mezmorized me. if i could do it all over again i would have gone with a used car with more in it. my car has droped less than half of what i purchased it for with only minor problems (paint scratches on the door) Similar Products Used: i had a 94 accent for about a month or so before that....i think the 94 and the 2001 are pretty much the same. cheap...and you get what you pay for. i got more for my 94 accent when someone hit me a |

Weakness:
cupholders suck no rpm gauge no storage space vibrates at idle airbag light stays on engine feels stressed at high speeds dents and scratches easily the Accent is a great car for the money. i have the base model hatchback with no options not even a/c but hey what do you expect when i only paid $3000 for it. it is pretty quick considering it only has 92 HP, definatly faster than my wife's infiniti G20 which has a 50 more horsepower.. go figure !! probably cuz it's a 5 speed and only weighs like 2,000 lbs. perfect for driving around in the city.. you can fit in any parking spot and squeeze through just about anywhere. but the engine does seem to start struggling a little once you hit 70mph then it accelerates alot slower but can still get it up to 90+ but there will be alot of engine noise and it sounds streesed but around town under 60mph it can't be beat. no major problems so far except that it vibrates more than it should when idling and the damn airbag light stays on all the time but the engine is strong which is the important thing. seats aren't too comfortable so it's not so good for long distance driving, the cupholders kind of suck only holds soda cans or skinny water bottles and there's not much storage space but that's to be expected. i still can't believe how fast it is.. maybe i just a freak accent or something who knows !! but anyway it seems to be very reliable and gets me anywhere i need to go and the back seat is actually pretty roomy compared to some other sport coupes like my Ford Probe for example. only other thing is lack of the rpm gauge so i don't know when i'm shifting but i guess it's not neccesary, not like i'm racing or anything. so in conclusion i highly recommend the base accent with no power options or a/c and the 5 speed. it makes for a really fast car (and really cheap too). even the sound system is decent. oh one other thing like others have said it dents and scatches real easy so be careful don't park under a tree. sorry for writing so much Similar Products Used: Ford Probe Infiniti G20 Chevy Camaro Chevy Nova |

It was fun to drive, feels like you're going 150 when it says 65
Weakness:
The cigarette lighter is ugly looking. Although I dont smore it still disturbs The car initially had 25K now it is at 52K and going straight to Junk Yard. The Story: 1) The exhausting pipe fell off twice. 2) The left wheel fell off once, is about to fell of again 3) Brakes stopped responding completely once, and about to do it again 4) The car's front suspension responds as an undamped oscillator when subject to a periodic bumps on the road. Sometimes when the resonant condition is approached the it dives so badly that it hits the road with it's engine 5) The suspension coil broke into two parts 6) The car periodically stinks as if some dead racoon is in the engine. No dead racoons were found upon inspection. 8) Impossible to get rid of the fog on the windshield during rain, or high humidity outside unless you switch on the airconditioner and freeze to uncontiosness 7) Finally I got into an accident was hit in the rear at 5mph. By a Ford, this was enough for the insurance company to total this piece of equipment. The funny thing is that neither the ford nor the car infront which sandwiched me had any damage. Hyundai makes the cars out of sturofoam, that's for sure. Similar Products Used: LADA |

its just plain fun to drive, as hyundai's commercial says, "driving is beleiving" try it out you will like it, good accel, nice handling, its good at high speeds too not sluggish ata ll on freeway you can pas going 80 no prob, seems to like high rps(that is of course where most of your torque is at)have had it up to 103 going up a slight grade(not a speedster but fast enough for me) interior is nice kind of economy feeling but all cars nowadays feel like this, back seat leg room is good, i had to mak sure that i would feel comfortable in the back seat of the car i got, im 6'1" and its not bad unless someone very tall is in the front moving the seat all the way back, and the seats are comfy too...love the hatchback practibiltiy with the look of a non-hatchback/sedan, oh yeah road noise isnt too bad either and no vibrations in steering etc. at high speeds
Weakness:
some things i dont like but defintely dont outweigh its strengths: cheap contruction, kinda plasticy, some little sounds/vibrations but these will go away as the car gets worked in, everyone complains about the paint being cheap but hey guess what you are paying under 10000 for it so as long as it works and runs well for a while u should be happy...cant think of any other major flaws at all, oh i dont like the lack of the tach in the accent L but if you've ever driven stick you'll know when to shift or u can add your own plus you get the most power and torgue at about 4700 rps so it isnt that bad to rev her once in a while I am a college student at NMSU. Needed a cheap, reliable, safe car to go to and from ohio and new mexico twice a year. The accent was the first "cheap" car i test drove and i loved it. the stick is fun to drive and had good accel for a small car. 4 wheel independent suspemsion makles it pretty sporty and fun to drive (can take turns quick and handing is nice and solid)braking is quick.... many ammenities including ac were also cool for the price, seats are comfortable..i drive to and from ohio from new mexico for the summer and the little lunbar support thing on the driver's seat is actually nice. Good controls in the car(i really dont like some of the radios etc in many cars but i think this one is decent) good sound on the radio, it has intermitant wipers, but no cruise(might want to get the GS is you want this but im ok with it..inexpensive remember?) all in all a very good car for the price...oh yeah the warranty but everyone knows all about that Similar Products Used: geo metro(had one for along time(this i smuch bigger and smoother and safer) |

Strength:
Gas mileage. Ease of driving; easy to maneuver in tight spaces. Seats can be adjusted for comfort (I have a disability and getting in and out can be difficult).
Weakness:
Paint is very thin; 1 coat of color and 1 coat of clear. Scratches easy. Can be dented easy. The Accent is one car that does well for the price. I have over 17,000 miles with no major problems. I expected I would get about 35 mpg on the highway, but I usually get 40-42 mpg. It exceeds my expectations for a car of this price range. Sure, it is light, but a high mpg rating light weight is a necessity. I expected the roof to have weak areas, but it is quite stiff. Body panels are adequate for the thickness of the sheetmetal used, which is thin anyway. |

Weakness:
Paint quality Quality of some interier pieces engine noise I bought this car in November of 1999. It was the cheapest car I could find with a good warranty. On my first oil change (free from the dealer) the plug was not screwed in properly and I drove with little or no oil in the car. Nothing seems to have been harmed however. Had a shift linkage problem at about 10,000 miles but Hyundai fixed it immediately and with excellent service. The free roadside assistance has been great. Never been left stranded. They even came out and changed a flat for me when I was too lazy to do it myself. The car has been adequate otherwise. The steering wheel discolored (I park in a garage at home and at work so there is absolutely on excuse for this), the inside door panel nicked easily, a little noisy, dents easily, paint chips easily but then no one has respect for an Accent when they are opening their doors in the parking lot. All in all the car has been a good choice at a time when I needed to cut expenses and have a dependable car at the same time. At the time I bought the Accent I had a Chrysler Sebring with 58,000 miles on it, the transmission was shot, the moon roof motor was shot, the power door looks did not work, the shifter would get stuck and not let me pull the key out of the ignition and I had just poured $2000 into the engine so I could get it back on the road (nothing under warranty). So to me the Accent’s little problems seem like nothing compared to this. Similar Products Used: Looked at Toyota Echo and Ford Focus, both cars have more to offer but at MUCH higher prices. A lot of stuff for the money. Excellent seat, Tilt steering, 60/40 split, exterior and interior lights. Suspension is great Road handling is BETTER than a N/A Corolla Speed is BETTER than a N/A Corolla
Weakness:
Gear shifting is a concern. Engine is a bit too noisy Radiator is very flimsy in mounting Windy noise as inadequate sealing Windows rattle Took delivery of the new 2001 GS model. Managed to get rust proofing in for the price plus rubber mats. Test drove the car and found balancing and alignment problem. Dealership was asked to rectify this as part of bill of sale. Prior to taking delivery, was told it is ready, but did a pre-delivery test: Guess what, it was never even corrected. Had to bring the car back after a few days and was given courtesy car. Dealership service dept has an attitude. No computer paperwork to keep track of. Quality of car is OK considering the price. Gear shift is primitive but adequate. The car is not in the same league as a Toyota. My sister bought this car for herself but simply put it; Mazda prices are simply a scam as are new Toyota prices for the Echo. I hope that the car will be reliable. But hey, having gone thru 2 years of battling and finally winning issues with a Toyota Corolla, this can only be better!
