Strength:

Good Gas Mileage, Reliable, Good small car looks, Factory stereo system is best in class, good performance,

Weakness:

Automatic tranmission performance sucks, but Tranny itself is reliable. Weak skinny tires.

I traded in My 1995 Toyota Tercel because the thing kept on leaking oil and the engine keeps on stalling on me. I traded it in for a Hyundai Accent, and it was a smart trade. Its very reliable. The styling is way better then any toyota subcompact car.

car was the best mileage at the time of the purchase. The automatic transmission sucks. Manual is the way to go. The tires went out after 31,000 miles. The car has 59,000 miles and going strong. It does not have all the nice features but a steady ride.

Strength:

the styling (way better than last gen)
Gas mileage
Good standard features
the bigger 1.6L is better....
factory CD player is great!
the warranty

Weakness:

could use a little more HP.
automatic is a little rough shifting

I really like this car.
I test drove both the base model and the GSi. Definitely the Gsi was the way to go. The bigger engine is a great deal more powerful. The pick up is a lot better, though could use even more, but is definitely comparable to my friends '98 honda civic lx.
The interior was shockingly cool. My first car ever was a hyundai pony, and let me tell ya, this company has increased quality tenfold. The interior feels more like the interior of a WAY more expensive car.
...and the factory clarion stereo? I sold my kenwood deck, because this deck is reeeallly good....the speakers could be replaced, but the power is there, and the controls are cool....
The warranty is great too. Hopefully I don't have to claim anything under it.
I got the automatic, since I rarely get out of the city and find manual more a pain in butt than anything. The auto tranny is a little rough shifting. I'm hoping that it's just breaking in still....
Over all though, I'm impressed, and my friends actually like the car as well. This is not the same company from 10 years ago.
For a new car, this, in my opinion, is your best bet. Price wise, the suzuki swift is a waste with almost no options available. (and no HP)
The daewoo lanos wasn't bad, but the company is in financial trouble, and that possibility scared me away.
The only other car I was considering was a used civic, but the only used ones I could find around town were above my price range. ('99s & '00)
If the reliability holds up, I have a feeling I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this car.....hehehe...

Model Reviewed: Hyundai Excel Olympic Edition

Strength:

Durabuility.
Unique: not every one in town ownes a Quadra-tone Hyundai (Quadra-tone meaning its original two tone Blue and Silver on the bottom, rust and primer)
Economy: it gets good gas milege because at this point it uses more oil than gas
Scence it burns so much oil, you only have to change the oil once every 20,000 kilometers, the rest of the time you just add oil.
I've saved hundreds of dollars over the years because my car sucked too much to take on a summer trip.

Weakness:

it rusted out almost instantly, it burns oil, it starts on the fifth or sixth try, it stalls when put in reverse. You don't know if it will start in the morning. Cheaply made

It sucks, but it keeps on sucking. It is rusted,I've put two floors in it but it just keeps on going. 1989 was the last year they had a carburator in them, also, it only has a minimal number of computers so there is less stuff that can go wrong. This car has all the Hyundai options like Mag wheels, Power steering, ajustable seat bottoms, and to top it all off the Olympic Edition, complete with pinstripe, decal, twotone paint, automatic transmission, door trim, and aptional interior.

This is the lousiest car I have ever owned. I hate it so much. I wish you would have had this website back when I first bought this piece of junk new. I hate this car after nine years, 181,000 miles, a new engine, new transmission, seven windshields, leaky windows (with the window closed, when it rains, water drips ON MY ARM as I drive!), screwy windshield wipers, whistling doors, innumerable replacement bulbs for the headlights, a cracked exhaust manifold, broken air-conditioning, broken power steering lines, ruined wiring harnesses. I will never buy another Hyundai. NO WAY!!! Their automobile products are criminal.

For the money I paid for this piece of trash and the money I had to invest to keep it running I could have bought a brand new '92 Tercel and I suspect I would have had next to no problems with THAT car!

Strength:

It's New, looks good outside/inside, LOVE the seat adjustments (Lumbar, seat height/angle), CD player has some decent OOMPH for stock, LOTS of cup holders, pretty roomy for a car this size(even the back seats), 1.6litre engine is peppy with a 5-speed, lighted spoiler!, LONG-ASS WARRANTY (not long ass-warranty), armrest, nicely designed interior(looks clean), decent visibility, did i mention it looks good?

Weakness:

TIRES TIRES TIRES, notchy shifting at times, clutch should be stiffer.

I really like this little car. I've had my silver GS for 1 week and am very happy with it. I actually like driving it. I'm very anxious to get some better tires and wheels though. They squeel if you look at them funny and they lose grip quickly. DO NOT PUSH THESE TIRES. I've got some Alessio 16" Monza wheels coming with yokohama tires. That should take care of it. I also got the windows tinted. VERY sharp looking little car. The euro styling shows through. I'll leave the engine alone for a little while since its quick enough stock.

Best quality-price ratio, very well equiped, good look, fun to drive.

Weakness:

Lack of HP on basic model. Lack of aftermarket performance parts.

This is my 3rd new accent. I street race with it. In fact, I beat the hell out of it. Like the douzen other new cars I previouly owned. Everyone who knows me will never hesitate to buy an accent. If it`s tough enough for me, believe me, it will be tough enough for you. I used to be a civic guy. I got tired of replacing piston rings, valve seals, and head gaskets. No engines ever lasted me longer than 30000 miles, exept for the accent. Alright when I street race against a civic, I stay behind, but it`s ok, I got used to the burned oil smell that comes from these civics. I follow them, wait untill they overheat, blow their head gasket, pull over, then I win. I had 7 Hyundai over the past yers. My next one will still be a hyndai!!

Strength:

Well for a 1.5 SOHC, accel is good until 3rd gear then basically nothin.

Weakness:

Doesn't like cold Canada Winter for example, Valve Cover Froze and Blew off, Engine Compartment on FIRE. So if you live in subzero temp, do not drive this car.

My Overall impression is this, Warrenty is the most important thing for this car. Recalls have been common.

But i do like the color, and i had it up to a nice pase, very cheap on gas, compare to my 4.4L grand prix,

Weakness:

low HP, flimsy body, rough gear transmition, small tires, paint chips easily, interior is easily scratched, gas milage aint all that if you go a lil fast at times, and weird gear ratio. (sometimes it gets out of first before it hits 3, sometimes 6)

For the time that I have had this vehicle it has treated me quite well. The paint chipped a little on my door cuz someone probably hit it with theirs while parked, the window on the drivers side rattles a lil cuz i had to slim jim into my own car :) and the road side assistance was used once when i had a nasty run in with a shard of metal on the road as it cut through my weak tires. The HP is pretty slow, but hell I dont race. It is a "Point A to Point B" car and I am just using this as a temporary vehicle until I aquire enough funds to get something better. Overall I am satisfied but I just hope i aint giving it away when i try to re sell it...

The car runs incredibly good for the price that we paid for it. Considering I just graduated high school and got a brand new car I'm loving every inch of it. The air works great, the factory installed radio sounds really good, its my dream car. The car is not to big, but what do I need a big car for its just me, and if people want to ride in my car then its big enough to fit them comfortably. All I can say is that I love my car. The price was not bad, and the warranty is great. Rating 5
