Strength:

A High-Value car, you get alot for the money. Definately the best of the "cheap" cars (Geo, Daewoo, Kia).
Cute styling (1999 model)

Weakness:

Manual transmission shift feel, too long and notchy.
High rev's on the highway due to gearing.

I Paid around 9000 for the car. I would recommend it because of the low initial price plus the long warranty. I do have reservations about reliability though, but just from anecdotal reports. The car has been flawless for the past 7 months.

Clearly its not in the same league, but it was much cheaper. But compared to other cars in its price range, it was clearly the better car.

Strength:

Everything! I got the loan easy, first car buyer. The dealership was really easy to deal with. They even told me that Hyundai customer service would call me for a rating on how the car and I was treated. Their pay depended on my rating! How great is that!

Weakness:

I wasn't able to get the extras I wanted, but for a $500 down payment, what would I expect.

I definitely would recommend this car. The only problem so far has been a recall on a windshield wiper assemby. They notified me and it will be changed free of charge. I can't recommend this car enough. I have been contacted several times by Hyundai to ask how I liked the car and if there was any problems. They send me countless fliers. I love that personal relationship. Also the gas mileage is superb, especially with gas prices right now. Although I haven't had any warranty work done yet, that is also a great selling point. If the salesman doesn't tell you about the oil change stipulation, their dealership rating lowers. That's a great way to hold them to it, don't ya think?

Strength:

I can honestly say the car never broke down in charleston.

Weakness:

but it did break down in Tuscaloosa,AL, Fayeville,NC,Nowhere,LA, and Harleton,TX..I'am the proud owner of my third transmission..the service is lousy at most service centers, and they take a weak at minium to fix anything...The air conditioner still works, but it doesn't matter because the windows get stuck down all the time...
There is always a 200.00 or 300.00 fee for over labor..
And you better never go to far over on the oil change or that can null and void you're warrant..It boils down to the check engine light is always on, and well i wish it were a short...

I would recommend this car to Hitler, and all my enemies..
Only the bad ones!!!

Not much. Lots of time off work to get to repair shop is more expensive than the car.

Weakness:

Currently on the FOURTH transmission in less than 6 months!!! Cannot believe it!!! Lemon law must be applicable here, yet Pacific Mitsubishi/Hyunai in Anchorage, AK is awful about dealing with the manufacturer about the car.
Awful experience for a couple of newly weds and their first new car - BUYER BEWARE!!! Save the cost of an attorney and spend it on a real car.

Again, BUYER BEWARE! This car is a lemon and Hyundai is not responsive to consumer satisfaction.

Strength:

Economy, Price, Performance, Options. I bought this car as a throw away since I drive about 40K per year just to go to work. Factory tires on mine have been great, wet, snow didn't matter. Car has a good balance front to back. I have been in 7" drifts and driven through but have buried my wifes Altima.

Weakness:

Gearing, With 175-14-65 tires I run about 3500 Rpms going 70 in 5 gear. I drive 98% highway and this gives me about 28Mpg, at 60Mph (3000Rpm) I can get 37Mpg. Hyundai if you can read this: FIX THE GEARING !! First gear is almost useless and in 5th I can pass people. I have decided to use a 1" taller tire to offset this, just looking for the right tire. Performance parts (cold air intake, strut bar, engine parts) can't be found. I have found springs though. It's ashame this car has real potiental and is cheaper than the Neon (Dodge) and Tiburon (Hyundai)

I paid 12,000 for my Gsi in Oct 98. (Sunroof, Power mirrors, Power windows, Air, Rear Defrost) I am missing only 2 options 100W CD player and rear disc brakes. These are missing cause I needed the car and only 3 could be found in a 5 state area. 2 in KS and 1 in MN. I have 55,000 miles. Would I buy again, well yes/no. Hyundai has changed the body style for 2000, not sure if I like it yet to square. If they finally got the gearing issue solved I would seriously consider it. A Geo is to unsafe for me on the highway and everything else is to $$$$$$. Caution check the highway RPM's if you drive a lot of highway miles because 9mpg is a lot to pay for at a 5mph difference.

Strength:

cheap price, good gas mileage, lots of features, quick and adequate engine for city driving, great steering response, easy to maneuver, amazing interior space/hatch space, easy to modify(stereo/performance parts)

Weakness:

cheaply constructed(but what did you expect?), paint faded very fast, poor suspension, clunky manual shifter, very poor highway passing power, hard to find performance parts, poor traction in winter, poor rear visibility

paid 16,000 cdn for new accent with air/cruise/cd/sunroof/foglights/powersteering
I have had very few problems with this car. It is a great winter starter, even starts when it is -40 degrees Celsius. It is a great car if you consider the price and other cars in its price range. I would recommend this car but not the service department in Regina, Saskatchewan as I have had many problems with them.

Strength:

Nice and compact, excellent mileage, no major repairs just battery drainage

Weakness:

Soft tires, interior wears easily, poor trade-in value

Paid under Cdn.$10,000 with none of the bells and whistles. Good value for the money. I love it but my husband hates the size of it and feels that it is unsafe. It doesn't pick up very well on the highway. We have not had any major repairs other than the battery replacement. The interior stains easily (even with water). It is a great car for a first-time buyer but not very practical for a family.

Lot of care for little money

Weakness:

The engine, transmission and resell value. These cars are great for about 40,000 miles then they start to fall apart. Good luck getting anything for it in 3 years.

I have owned 3 Hyndai Accents. The first one I enjoyed but traded it in in 1 year to get a new one with air and auto. I got half of what I paid for it. The current one I have (3 years old with air, auto, Cd, and CD changer), went from 12,000 new to 2500 trade in (in 3 years). It's also on it's second transmission with only 55,000 miles on it.

Strength:

it moves most of the time

Weakness:

electric problem, engine weakness, start up problem, battery drain, transmission, brakes, too many to metion

after owning accent for 3 yrs, we decide to donate this piece of junk to the junk yard. car won't run over 40miles/hr on the hi-way and it's very dangerous!!! and everytime the car was send to the garage, u can see the smirk on the repair guy's face. ( another sucker ). it was a sorry experience to own that piece of garbage. put your money some other place . also the 10 yr warrenty offered these daysis merely a marketing gimmi. good luck claming the repair cost 10 yrs down the road if your r not already discussed by the car then. only buy this one if you have too much money to burn and try to revive the asia economic crisis.

Low price, great warranty, great gas mileage, trouble free operation

Weakness:

Resale value

I liked this car. I paid less than $10,000 for it and have had only minor problems. I had to have a door gasket replaced (it melted in the Texas heat)and another time the trunk jammed. Both repairs were covered by the warranty. The car just passed 80,000 miles and is still running great. I hope to trade it in next year for a 2000 model (they look great). If the other Hyundai's continues to wear as well as this one has, I'm sure the trade-in value problem will cease to exist (remember how bad the trade-in for Honda's used to be?). I'm surprised how much abuse this car has taken and yet it keeps going strong.
