Strength:

good gas milage

Weakness:

I'm sick of this car. It's been in the shop at least 45 times with practically everything you can imagine gone wrong. Oil leaks, recalls, broken dash, broken radio, joints, suspension, etc etc etc. The first month I owned the car it had to go to the shop 6 times. It does not have any real power whatsoever. It has a good warranty. Why? Because this car SUCKS! It's the only way they can manage to sell these cars. Once this car hits 20,000 miles it's done for.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!! I've never seen so many problems with a car in such a little amount of time. Do not listen to the salesman, do not ever even think for a second this would be a good "town car". This car isn't good for anything except maybe scrap metal, and I'm not sure I would even want to use the scrap to build a tea kettle. I would recommend never buying a car from this company ever. I'd rather be heading down the highway in the wrong direction on my bicycle than be in a Hyundai Accent. Another warning to people out there...DO NOT GO TO HARGRAVE TO BUY ANY OF YOUR CARS...PERIOD!!! The service there is horrible and the salesman will do anything to get you to buy a car.

THIS CAR HAS NO HORSEPOWER. WHEN ENTERING ONTO THE HIGHWAY YOU CAN NOT JUST TAKE OFF RIGHT AWAY. IT RUNS LOUD LIKE A TRUCK AND IT IS TOO SMALL.

FROM THE SECOND DAY I BOUGHT THIS CAR THE HECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON THEY TRIED TO SAY IF AFTER GETTING GAS YOU DON'T CLICK THEY CAP 3 TIMES IT CAUSES THE LIGHT TO COME ON WELL THEY CHARGED ME $40 TO TURN THIS LIGHT OF ON A SATURDAY THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON SUNDAY WITH OUT ME EVEN GETTING GAS THEN THEY GAVE ME A NEW OXYGEN SENSOR ON MONDAY ON TUESDAY THE LIGHT WAS ON AGAIN. IM GOING TO CHECK OUT MY LEMON LAW IN THIS STATE BECAUSE I THINK I HAVE BEEN HAD. THE 2000 ACCENT GL IS A CAR NO ONE SHOULD BUY. I ALSO NEED TO WARN EVERYONE ABOUT THE SERVICE I RECEIVED AT BRAD BENSON IN MONMOUTH JUNCTION,NJ THERE IS A GUT THERE NAMED JOHN WHO HAS VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE HE WAS VERY RUDE. Strength:

Good gas mileage and awesome stereo system (only because I had it installed).

Weakness:

Every damn element of this vehicle!!!

I curse the day I purchased this car. Everything has gone wrong, too many to list. Do you think any of it was covered by my "wonderful warranty"? Heck no! I should have known to trade the car back in when two weeks after buying it, I had to take it back to Hargrave McEleney to have an entirely new exhaust system put in.Don't even get me started on that place! While the service department is reputable (they know me very well), the salesman will blow more smoke up your butt about these cars than a chimney. I heard through the grapevine that this particular car dealership was in danger of being dropped by Hyandai for not meeting thier quota of sales. I wish the gates of hell would open and swallow this car back into the evil realm if which it was created. I found out that my three-year old car w/ 50,000 miles and no body damage was only worth $3,500. If after all of this anyone even considers buying this car, may God have mercy on your soul, you sanity and your pocket book.

Strength:

Cheap.

Weakness:

No Power. Engine Noise. No luxury items. Poor workmanship. Ugly design.
0-60 sec. in about 10 minutes. Loose Tranny (automatic) Downshifts for no reason causing engine to rev in the 6000 RPM range when releasing accelerator on highway. Cheap plastic interior. Not economical as you would think.

Paid $12000 US. Used for business and sold 1 year later.
Had numerous problems as noted above. Also, windshield washer leaked. Wiper motor burned. Headlights burned out in 3 month intervals. Power steering fluid leaked. Under warranty but poor service.
Stay away from this model. Students beware.

Strength:

Gas mileage! Reliable. Predictable handling. Plenty of space in trunk.

Weakness:

Lacks power, but considering the type of car; this is expected.

Would recommend for individuals needing basic transportation. This is what I call a "Point A to Point B" car. It works well and does it's job with a minimum of fuss. I've had no problem with my Accent and it's A/C made the (Texas) summer bearable. The Toyota that I owned NEVER worked correctly - after no A/C for three years and $6000.oo in repairs, I decided that I needed to get something that worked.

I am decidedly happy at the gas pump, I like to think that the money that the next guy is pumping into his/her Suburban is the same cash that I use to go out to a dinner AND a movie.

The handling is very sure and the bump absorbing struts are very forgiving. Shifting is crisp, although you have to be firm and follow through completely or you may hear a "complaint" from the gearbox. The back seating area is OK for kids, but might be a bit tight for an adult. Instrument cluster is simple - which is good, the high visibilty means you don't have to scan the dash for information sifting out the stuff you don't need. The fold down seat works well for occasions where you have to haul the unassembled desk or large item home. Overall, this car does what it promises to do and with the warranty it has - promises to do this for some time to come.

Strength:

1) Price (Canadian), a bit of equipment for this price category (at that time: Lada, Aspire, Geo Metre, Tercel)
2) good mileage (have done over 50MPG (imperial gallons) often)
3) Handling (stick to the road like glue. Impressed ALOT of people in the handling category...like taking thight corners at a high speed and doing "Garfields" in the side windows
4) Limited Sport Edition (only 1500 made) with sunroof, spoiler, and more
5) Space (ALOT more than people think!)

Weakness:

1) tranny (changed the auto tranny once)
2) sunroof (replaced TWICE due to HEAVY rust)
3) Body (very sensitive to dents)
4) Rattles...the hatched rattled from Day ONE
5) Radio (BAD! BAD! BAD! BAD! BAD!)

OK, if you need a car to go from point 'A' to point 'B' at a cheap price, go for it...but if you think you'll do alot of mileage (like I did) GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!! (like I did)... Paid $13,700.00 CAD (all included)

Happy to depart of the car last week (had 123,000km on it and started to gain in problems and vibrations)... I was thinking of buying a Santa Fe, but the rusting problem and its high price (starts at $25,000.00 CAD) made me think twice and bought an Alero instead.

Strength:

Actually I work at a car dealer in town and sell these cars. And from what people have said on here about them the only thing here I can see that is good is the price.

Weakness:

From driving these cars on test drives they seem to be (in my terms) a waste of 10k. They are slower than hell, all stripped down, noisy, uncomfortable, and just plain old ugly. From driving the brand new ones all I have is that the batterys in them die very quickly.

I would never buy this car. And its a bad thing that a salesman would not recomend buying this worthless car. Frankly just stay away from the whole company. Every car they make is a low cost pos.

Strength:

Economical car with enough pep to get you where you have to be on time. Very nice styling, and the handling in the corners is very impressive. Not a very big car but it is perfect to get into those small parking spots.

Weakness:

It could have used a little more of a powerful engine but with a few modifications it will do just fine.

I paid $13500 and it was worth it. I recomend this car very much!!!! It is perfect for the person who wants to get somewhere economicaly but in style at the same time.

Strength:

Good value & excellent warranty. Accelerates pretty good w/ manual trans. Dealership in Woodbridge, VA is very good on service. Very good gas mileage for a 4-cyl.

Weakness:

Hyundai's inconsistent quality control. Some ppl never have a problem, Others have their 4th transmission after 30k miles. I'm somewhere in the middle - 1 transmission-related breakdown in 8500 miles. No problems otherwise. Paint scratches easily. Parts avail. only from dealer.

A whole lot for very little - but know the lemon laws in your state just in case. I personally like mine quite a bit. Paint scratches pretty easily, so invest in some touch-up paint and rubbing compound if you want it to stay nice. Do a little research on the local dealership before buying a Hyundai - you're going to be seeing quite a lot of them over the years. Good car if you know relatively little about cars.
I wouldn't recommend driving above about 70 - tach hits 3500 rpm and starts to suck some gas (relatively speaking). Dash layout's pretty good, but my dials are backwards - marked 'heat' controls the vents & vents controls the heat. Bizarre in my opinion. Good safety features, too.

Strength:

EXCELLENT value for the money. A bit better car costs a lot more. A bit cheaper car is a lot worse! The engine is reasonably quiet when warmed up and delivers reasonable power considering the ccms. When driven properly it realy spends little fuel. Electronically controlled MPI ensures that engine always works in optimal internal conditions, even when driven by a novice/careless/technically challenged driver. Vibrant, alive and potent in urban areas - yet stable, smooth and relatively fast on highways.

Weakness:

Alike all "yellow" cars, the build quality is questionable, and varies from car to car. In more than 1.5 years of heavy driving the clutch hydraulics failed once, but a serviceman (who came promptly on my call) fixed it in litteraly 5 minutes right in front of my house.

I paid about 8000$ (cca 16000DM) for it, and for those money, where I live, the alternatives were Skoda Felicia, Kia Sephia and Daewoo Lanos. In my oppinion, based on other people's experiences, the Hyndai Accent is by far the best choice.

Wolkswagen Polo, Citroen AX, Honda Civic - a different league ofcourse, but the price more than justifies the difference.
