Strength:

remarkable performance, Decent looking car. fuel economy

Weakness:

Front tires seem to spin a little too easily...Tires?

well, although I've only had the car about a month, I've already put about 3000km on it. One trip to the mountains and a lot of driving around town. I came from driving a Volvo (which got horrible gas milage) to this. First thing that I noticed is the clutch is a lot softer than any European car and I have to get used to driving a front wheel drive in the winter again. I got the Sand drift metalix gold...which in my opinion looks very nice. I'm still kind of shocked I did buy one, i needed an inexpensive fuel efficient car but when i think of Hyundais, I think of those crappy litte Ponys and Excels...so far i've been very pleased with the car...see me in 4 years when the loan is up and the resale value is low, however...but for the time being, I'm happy

Strength:

VERY economic! Good handling overall, clean and efficent design. Good brakes, audio & interior.

Weakness:

The low horsepower (92 HP) is qite bit of a problem accelerating (esspecially if you have VERY little room to get up to a higher speed as in MA. When trying to accelerate the transmission has a difficult time shifting. (Worries me a bit sometimes) Fortunatly I have a Tach, so I can slow down a bit if it gets too high. Door insulation (around window) keeps sliping down. Gas pedal sticks sometimes (big problem, but I don't think it wouldn't be too hard for them to fix, it feels like it's catching on something under the dash), Not very much room.

Overall it's a nice little car. No MAJOR complaints. It's a bit small (I'm 6'2" tall), and has a tough time accelerating quickly. However, it does what it was designed for, get's you from one point to another safely (dual airbags) and cheaply (fuel cost). LOVE the 10 year - 100 K mile warrenty! VERY good car for students, and local commuters. Taken it on long distance trips a couple times, and it's not the most comfortable for those long distances... but does a good job overall. Nice cup holders. Feel safe and secluded (Did not like the Elantra, too much window space, felt exposed, didn't feel this way in the Accent). Has a lot of nice little features that you don't find too often in some economey cars (Truck remote latch, gas remote latch, Overdrive, Lumbar adjustment, center arm rest...).
Had a dome light switch (in the drivers door) go out, and they changed it pretty quick as it was covered under warrenty.
I really haven't had some of these problems that everyone else is talking about. I think as long as you drive gently and don't push it beyond what it was designed for (Point A to Point B, cheap economy car) than it will treat you back fine. Keep in mind, Hyundai itself is not exactly a Lexus or BMW, so just treat it as such and it will treat you back.

NOTE: People who don't know how do drive very well (AKA: over rev the engine, stop too fast) or generally run cars into the ground are not going to like this car very much (most likely they will blow it up). It is designed for basic city driving. Good for students, and commuters.

Strength:

Cute car, low price, love the cup holders :-) Good roadside assistance system -- I should know, since we've had to use it twice already. Willingness of company to honor warranty -- again, I should know.

Weakness:

Cheap little donut tires with poor traction, general poor/cheap workmanship, and some obvious design flaws.

I am very dissatisfied with this car. I bought it new in November 2000 and have since put 26,000 miles on it in commutes to and from work. I cannot rely on it! Here's a list of what has gone wrong in the year and 4 months I've had it:
1. At less than 1 week old, one of the cheap tires was pierced beyond repair by a piece of wood in a friend's driveway. We had to buy a new tire.
2. At about 14,000 miles and less than 6 months of ownership, the water pump had to be replaced. I had to have a loaner car to go to work, as I brought it in for a strange noise in the engine and was told it was unsafe to drive until fixed.
3. After about 6 months, the weatherstripping came off the back of the driver's side door. I was told by the serviceman that this was common and was due to the driver rubbing against the weatherstripping while entering and exiting the vehicle. I was also told that he personally considered this a design flaw, and Hyundai was aware of the problem and was willing to replace the stripping once, but no more than once.
4. After about 11 months of ownership and about 19,000 miles, the transmission failed completely and the car had to be towed back to the dealership to have it replaced. There is absolutely no excuse for a transmission failure with this kind of mileage!!
5. Last month (February) I lost control of the car in icy conditions and wound up in a ditch. I was picked up by the aforementioned 1991 Ford Escort, which had little trouble navigating the icy terrain. The Hyundai has what I consider very poor traction, and I doubt I would have had the same accident had I been driving the Escort. A bright spot -- roadside assistance was prompt and courteous in calling a tow truck to get the car out of the snowbank in the ditch.
6. Now, the "check engine" light is on. I took the car back to the dealership and was told it was safe to drive, and parts had to be ordered... I am awaiting their arrival.

All this in a year and a half and 26,000 miles. I wish I'd bought another Ford.

Strength:

great gas mileage looks kinda like the bmw 318 hatchback sporty. oh yeah and the price. my best friend just bought it.

Weakness:

lack of power anything, soft clutch, front end seems a bit light for front wheel drive it likes to spin when the ground is wet. but so far a have failed to see any big weaknesses.

surprizingly a smooth ride for such a small car. compared to a geo(with absolutely two twig and a spring suspension)it rides like a bigger car but way more responsive. 92 hp is plenty for it just wish it was all-wheel drive!

Strength:

Dependable transportation. Good gas mileage. Solid engine.

Weakness:

Road noise on the highway.

I gave this car to my daughter at 50,000 miles. Only had a couple of minor problems repaired under warranty. A good car for the price. A very good engine, but should be mated to the 5 speed for good performance and excellent gas mileage. Overall, a good car that I like, my wife likes and my daughter likes. Great car for a young person. Economical. Much better with upgrade tires.

Warranty 6 years unlimited milage

Weakness:

Transmission I had to have it changed four times and am waiting for my fifth on to go.

I bought my car brand new and the trans. had to be changed after the first month. Since than they have changed it three more times. The last time it lasted the week-end and I started to have the same problems again . I would not recomend this car to any one who is looking for a car for more than a year or two max and only if they don't put any milage on it.

Weakness:

BATTERY IS TOO SMALL TO POWER MY 600 WATT AMP AND 15 INCH SUB IN THE BACK.

THIS IS A GREAT CAR FOR SOMEONE WITH A LIMITED BUDGET BUT LOOKING FOR SOME FUN. IT WAS ACTUALLY A BIT SLOW AT FIRST BUT AFTER A 300 MILE TRIP IT SEEMS TO HAVE LOOSENED UP. THE SMALL 1.5 LITER ENGINE IS GREAT ON GAS MILAGE. WITH A BIT OF TLC SOME CASH, TINT, RIMS, AND SOME SKILLS IT COULD BE A SMOOTH CAR.

Model Reviewed: Galant GTZ

Strength:

I loved the looks of this car when I bought it. I went to my local Volkswagen/Mitsubishi Dealership to buy a 2000 Passat, I never considered the Galant till I drove the car I would buy that day...a demo 1999 Mitsubishi Galant GTZ. Fell in love with the car and thought that the Galant beat the Passat in everything except the overall "koolness of driving a VW" factor. I'm in high school and wanted a good reliable car, one that actually got looks. Chose the Galant cause theres already like 7 Jettas, and 1 Passat so I thought I'd try somethin different. With different I got mixed feelings on the car.

Weakness:

cupholders are...well not too bad but not great either. Read cupholders a joke-the console lid fold all the way back and theres two circle cutouts for the back seat cupholder. haha what a joke. Lack of rear head rests bugs me- and also lack of a armrest in the middle back seat. Oh yeah and no "oh-sh*t" handles! (the ones that are above all the doors). No trunk release on keyless entry.

I bought this thing with just over 20,000 miles on the odo. It was great until small things started happening to make this an overall not kool experience. Things such as, the glovebox breaking twice...fixed under warranty. The fog lights bubble and buldge from the heat of the lamps, fixed 3 times on warranty. Sunroof button failed, inside door panels not glued down properly from factory, outside body molding loose, keyless entry errors...all this was addressed and/or fixed under warranty at the dealership. All of this happend within about the first 6,000 miles I owned it, man I was wondering what kind of mistake I made. These are small problems but very annoying ones. But since this, this car has been perfect. Now I'm really starting to like it again-like when I bought the car originally. I love the styling, its a real head turner especially if you leave your headlights on all day... which reminds me.. the new Galant will automatically shut off your lights when the car is turned off -and turn back on when the car starts (only if you engage the feature)..but the foglight switch isn't a on/off switch..its one that has to be pressed each time the lights come on again, this is a huge pain to have to remember to turn them on every time I started the car. But Im used to it now-almost habbit. This car is very reliable...just as good as my Acura I had before it. I think I would recommend it...lol..not positive, I think most are excellent and some are krappy...mine is closer to excellent but has had a few im-perfections. But its a machine, right?

My 1994 Acura Vigor was much more accomidating as far as what it offered, and that is 5 years older than this car. I like all of the buttons better, but this car is faster than the 5-cylinder Vigor and overall its a better looking car. The Galant reminds me of a Camry or Accord in operation, but looks 100 times better. Be sure to get the spoiler!!
