Strength:

Good gas milage

Weakness:

ugly, the check engine light goes on frequently and ultimately costs around $300 to get fixed. Poor pick up. Have to take to dealer for parts and service because these things have nuiances that apparently are difficult to navigate.

I'm frustrated. Although I have 96,000 miles in 3 and 1/2 years I always have a nagging feeling that it will break again - from experience. The dealer rapes you with repair charges. I was told to stick with the Hondas for commuters.

Strength:

I very much like the fact that it is quite economic, very good commuter car, excellent warranty program, very stylish body, love the color (Chile Red), very classy beige interior contrasts well with red exterior, decent 40-watt AM/FM Cassette Player and sound system (VERY DECENT for a standard Accent), quick and responsive in the city and smooth and relatively bumpless ride on the highway, does not have air conditioning but hey!!!: Who needs it in Seattle ANYWAY??? Picks up good speed in spite of it's small 4-cylinder motor, comfortable power steering (which happens to be a standard option), and something I really like is that it doesn't have to be warmed up too long before leaving. (Especially great for us people on the run who don't have much time to waste while the car warms up).

Weakness:

Since I have the most basic of Accents, it has no tachometer, which is important because the rev's go up quite a bit when driving at about 70 mph or more. Also somewhat noisy in highway driving. I've personally been having some problems with the rear defroster from time to time, and it's summer time, so I'm wondering what will happen when it's winter time. (But it's a warranty issue so hopefully it will be taken care of) Those are about the only things I don't like about this little car.

I paid 9,400 for this car and I strongly recommend it as an alternative to buying used. I'm never getting into that AS-IS No Warranty type purchases again. The Accent has a warranty that's got you covered for about as long as you'll own the car!!! It's not a Honda, but at least it's not so overpriced and over rated as a Honda is. YOU BASICALLY GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR.

Price was great. I paid $6995.00 brand new for the Accent. I also have a Jeep and the Accent is my good gas car. It gets great gas mileage, rides smooth, shifts smooth, and have not had any problems with the car.

Weakness:

No weaknesses in the car but in the service. The dealer I went through is terrible. They take forever in servicing the car, they charge way too much. There was also a recall on the exhaust system and I didn't know until I took the car for its first oil change. After they charged me $250.00 for a new exhaust. Which I didn't pay for because they finally figured out it was a recall. Car is great service terrible.

Paid $6995.00 for a brand new car. I haven't had any problems and I think if you know how to drive you shouldn't either. i would recommend the car, but watch the dealers.

good gas mileage, can fit more in it then you'd think, and i'm only on my 2nd transmission (suckers!)

Weakness:

EVERYTHING! DO NOT BUY ONE!!!! have owned the car for four years. Alot of alot of highway noise, 40,000 miles and falling apart! Transmission problems, wouldn't start numerous times; now in the shop and they say it's "computer problems", paint scratches incredibly easily, invest in alot of touchup paint, dents easily = lots of body damage, clutch had to be replaces with less then 10,000 miles on it, bad interior design, good warranty but the car is in the shop all the time, could go on and on

paid 7500 for a 1995 model with only 9000 miles on it ( in 1996) SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! do not be a sucker for a low price and good warrenty. After 2 or 3 years they go to crap. Someone warned me before i purchased the car, doubted them, and now i ahsve the word ASS written across my forehead. Spend a little more money for qaulity!!! Who should buy it? No one

Strength:

Compact size, easy to maneuver, cheap price, great warranty.

Weakness:

Resale value, little power, poor build quality, can't handle icy-snowy conditions very well.

Have had the car for about 3 months now. Does everything it should for a small compact car. Handles very well in regular conditions, functions properly. Good car for entry level drivers. Cheap price and a wonderful warranty make this a great value. Have had no problems other than a cracked windshield. A good standard vehicle that gets the job done for not a lot of money. Accelaration is a little on the weak side, especially on hills. Has practically no resale value, so word to wise is to buy, not lease. Not for treacherous weather, that's what SUVs are for. Great Value.

Strength:

Durability. Hyundai has come a long way since the '80s. The worst thing I've had, mechanically, is a worn-out front wheel bearing because I didn't take care of a knocked-out alignment quick enough. The engine has the soft 'tick' of a car with 105k miles on it, but I won't have it rebuilt until I see smoke.

Weakness:

The body panels are strong, but thin. This makes the car light and stiff, but prone to denting from car doors, or the occasional kamikazi shopping cart. My driver's side window finally jumped off the track last week. I've heard that this was a problem with earlier Accents. My sunroof is devoid of rust, but I've heard horror stories from people who live up north, where they salt the roads. Salty air (living in Pensacola) didn't do anything bad to the car. I've got a manual transmission, but I have not heard good things from the automatic owners. Perhaps Hyundai has redesigned the tranny.

Nice little car for getting around. Mine's currently at 105,000 miles and still going strong. No smoke, decent economy, no rust, and the engine leaks no oil. Stoplight to stoplight performance is less than stellar, but the car pulled right on up to 105mph on the Atlanta freeway last spring. The engine is a little revvy, due to its 4.03:1 final drive (GT tranny), which can make the engine a little noisy under load. Otherwise, the car is pretty quiet, with a little harsh ride. This might be because of the GT suspension being a little stiffer. Nice legroom for both front and back, especially for a subcompact, and pretty good visibility. The electrical system is solid, as I've had a 1000+ watt competition grade stereo in it for about 3 years. (GT models had a high output alternator)
I bought my car the year before they offered the 10yr/100k mile warranty (figures), but it turns out that I haven't needed it. The aussies love this car up and down, and they have a strong following there. I just hope that they offer the turbo-equipped (released soon in AU) version here in the US.

Passed up a Dodge Neon and a Geo Metro for this car. The Metro was a nice enough car, but lacking in features. The Neon had the engine power I liked, but once Dodge drew up a quote with the same features as the Accent, I was looking at around $14,000, and could buy a Camaro at that point.

Strength:

Economy, cheap insurance, pep (for a sub-compact..compare it to Suzuki Swift or geo metro...not honda civics et al). Been reliable..

Weakness:

Dents easy (from other car doors), noticing surface rust around sunroof lip...has me a little worried.

Been very reliable, and cheap to insure and fill up. I don't see dealer service as that much more expensive then any other dealer. Parts certainly not as expensive as say a honda or any other import for that matter. I did have to replace the computer about 6 months after that but it was covered under a service bulletin. The Future Hyundia service center in mississauga is very friendly and actually seem to know what they are doing. No major failures so far. Replaced stock exhuast and intake with performance stuff, also changed admitably poor tires with 15" ones. Strut braces and stiffer springs turned the little bandit into a go-cart. Lot's of fun to drive. The dealer actually get's a kick out of my mods to the car and has never refused any warranty work. (Changed computer and gas cap under warranty.) Hmm, well in 3.5 years I think I am doing very well. One thing to remember that a lot of people forget. This is a sub-compact economy car. Not your daddies $40 oldsmobile. It does what it should for what you pay for the car. I have no illusions as to the fact that it's a cheap plastic car..but that is what I paid for. It is still a good car (at least mine has been).

Weakness:

lack of horsepower

This is my wife's car. I have to say that I was impressed, for the money. It's true that there is a severe lack of horsepower. So, if you live in a mountainous or hilly area (like Pittsburgh, for example), I would not recommend this car.
However, I love to drive it. The driver's view of the road is stellar for a small car. All of the fixtures are easy to find and the interior is much nicer than the price would indicate. I thought the same as everyone else at first - how good could a $12,000 Hyundai be?? Well, driving IS believing. For the price, this is a great little car. It's roomier than it looks - for my wedding we had 4 large men fitting comfortably into it. Plus, I was impressed with the head and leg room, being that I am over 6 feet tall. I would recommend this car to anyone with a limited budget. Plus, the 2001 has all of the great things of the 2000 - and increased the horsepower to 105. Definitely worth a look!

Good price for a new car, looks hot w/ the real spoiler (got silver and it looks nice)

Weakness:

small, engine is a little loud (but with the updated 105hp for my little accent (it gets going pretty quick, not as bad as previous models)

So far it is fun to drive (hugs turns and is quit after acceleration) but loud revs, and skimpy tires are a down) overall this car isa great deal though (gets great mileage, is fun to drive, and looks slick)

good gas milage, runs good when nothing is broken,

Weakness:

terrible transmition, uncomfortable seats, loud engine, bad suspension

I've had my car for the past 2 1/2 years and have had nothing but problems with it from the start. One week after purchasing it, I had to take it to the dealership where I bought it from. Of course they didn't know what the problem was so, I had to drive 45 minutes to the closest Hyundai dealer. Come to find out it was my oxygen censors. I was at the dealership 3 different times before it was fixed. About 7 months ago I had to have the transmition along with the brakes, rotors, and half of my front suspension fixed at 57000 miles. Thank goodness for an extended warranty!! Over the past 2 1/2 years I've put about $1000 of my own money into the car and the warranty company has put in about $2500 into it. Now my car isn't even worth half of that amount. In a 7 month time frame, my car went to being worth $3500 to $2000. Thanks to this piece of junk, it took me forever to get a new car. Never again will I buy a Hyundai, much less a foreign car.
