Strong on FUN & CUTE factors! Love enjoying the sky driving 'topless' - I live in CA. Completely reliable. Great gas mileage. Love the rear window option. Easy maintenance.
Weakness:
Interior design sucks - especially cup holder. Struggles mightily on steep or long-rise hillsdue to inadequate horsepower. I've had this puppy since it's birth. It has given me over 120K miles of driving reliability and fun. Never had a scrap of trouble with it. Similar Products Used: MGB |

Del Sol S
Strength:
The mpg were the only thing I like about this car.
Weakness:
acceleration sucks, cup holder positioning. Handling. Get Miata you will get a overall better car for the money. I was the proud owner of 90 Nissan 300zx Twin turbo and a 91 Mazda Miata . In 2001 I was laid off from motorola, so I had to sell my two little pocket rockets. I saw my Del Sol in e-bay gave the winning bid. I have owned the Del Sol for about a year know and I can honestly say that this car sucks. I have no Power windows, the acceleration sucks and the positioning of the cup holders is just awful. If you are looking to buy a car in this category please take a look at the Mazda Miata. It just so much more fun-to-drive better looking and much better handler. Strength:
fast car, handles like a dream removable roof, big trunk and a power rear window
Weakness:
small tires (13s) and a top speed of a 110 mph due to a electronic limiter. When I bought the delSol I thought it was slow, (I was used to v8's) but I was wrong. This is a peppy car. It handles like a dream. I can out handle a 2000 Trans-Am. The engine is a 1.5 liter SOHC inline four, which puts out about 102 HP. I got bored with the power so I got some aftermarket parts. Reactive airfilter, AEM cam gear, 3A racing muffler, and racing fuel injectors. Now the G-Tech pro says I have a 153 HP. total cost of $853.86 |

Strength:
-No roof when the sun shines -Excellent mileage 35 mpg or better ( I have a heavy foot ) -Great power (better with header and exhaust) -Great handling (even better with new suspension) -The DOHC B16A2 motor is bullet proof
Weakness:
- Body flex when the roof is removed - Needs more power -Needs better brakes - More chasis bracing I wasn`t looking for a Del Sol when I found one .I saw a add for a 4 year old Sol with only 32 000km on the clock.I disided to check it out the price was right .It had the DOHC motor . It was owned by a lady in her 60`s .She used it mostly on weekends for to drive the granddaughter to ballet .I fell in love with the car as soon as I took it out for a drive .I replaced the factory suspension with a race Tein HA to improve the handling .I then replace the header with a Greddy stainless and finally I replaced the exhaust with a Tanabe G .I haven`t disided if I will replace the motor with a Type R motor or add a Turbo . I am a long time Del Sol Owner, a 1994 Si bought new. I do love the car. I is one of the most fun cars you can own. True, since I am a guy, women think that the car is "so cute". The good part about this is that Del Sols that look good are rare and there are only a few around. I have had no real major problems with the car in all the 95,000 miles I have on it. I ahve had several issues with the divers side door locks, but these are minor. But a word of caution. The Del Sol is prone to getting hit, like a motor cycle. There are only two original body panels on my car, the roof and the trunk. Every other body part was replaced at some time. All of the accidents I had were a result of other drivers, most people don't see the car due to its small size, so they just hit it. Be warned. Other than that, if you can find a Del Sol, get one, but be wary that the car is small and in this SUV world, you can get crushed when the guy's tire next to you is taller than your roof line. |

Targa top, 127 hp, big trunk, a little hard cover slides up over the radio face, comfortable seats, the compartments behind the seats can be locked, rear window goes down, mpg is fantastic!
Weakness:
That blind spot is pretty bad, it's annoying having to pull the handle to lock the doors when getting out, having only 2 seats may bother some people. This is the car of my dreams! I have wanted a del Sol for years and I finally bought one a week ago. It's in excellent condition and exactly what I was looking for. I bought it with 45,800 miles on it and it's a fully loaded automatic, black/black, and just a spectacular looking car. Before this I drove a '93 Mercury Topaz so you can imagine it may take me a while to get used to all this power, not to mention all the stares I'm getting from people! Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Responsive steering, adequate power and good acceleration, excellent seating (once you''re in the vehicle), really neat having the rear window retract (adds to enjoyment even with roof in place), good trunk space, and, of course, the targa roof which is so easily removed/stored/put back in place (maybe 20-30 seconds at most).
Weakness:
Cup holders, having to hold drivers door handle open to activate power locks, a separate control to activate cruise control which is not integrated with the set/decel controls. But still I recommend this car because the "Fun Factor" alone makes these minor things just that...minor. Simply outstanding driving experience. So much fun to drive. Not many on the road so you get a lot of looks. Yes, it''s true all human females say the same thing about the Del Sol, namely, "It''s so cute!" Most guys really like it even if they''re driving "muscle cars", etc. Very responsive steering, little body roll, rear window is a dream for altering ventilation and even with the top in place having the rear window down gives the car an open air feeling. Mine does not leak/squeak but know that this will change if gaskets are not maintained (lubricated) at regular intervals. Trunk space is good (have coworker who had a Civic and was truly impressed with the Del Sol''s trunk size). Seating is excellent re: support (I have had back surgery)and gives feeling of being in a custom made cockpit. Mine is an automatic and I have averaged 34.5 highway/31.88 city (note the engine is 127HP SOHC). Am still getting used to the driver''s blind spot but it''s not as bad as some postings would indicate. With the windows down and/or top off I am having some trouble distinquishing noises made by my vehicle from vehicles around me but this is not a real problem. I found the car thru autotraders.com and paid $1000 under NADA average retail (my price $7995 with 63K on odometer). Three items I don''t like: having to pull the driver''s door handle open in order to utilize the power locks when leaving the car, a separate control from the set/decel controls of the cruise control in order to activate the cruise control, and the so called cup holders inside the arm rest/console which if used prevents use of the console as an armrest. Regarding smoking in the car, forget it! Maybe it''s possible with all windows up and roof in place but otherwise the ventilation is such that ashes blow everywhere...perhaps this is another impetus for me to quit smoking. Have put about 500 miles on this car in the past 5 days and have enjoyed every minute/mile. Similar Products Used: Opal GT, Blakely Bearcat (not Bradley GT) |

VERY upgradeable, very reliable, "SPORT MODE!!!" is great, DOHC VTEC mades Rousche, Cobra, and all other mustangs look like a geo metro, seriously
Weakness:
the roof does leak a little in the HEAVY HEAVY rains. other than that, nothing! When i bought this car with only 57,000 miles on the odometer, I thought this thing was great!!! When i bought it I got the DOHC(dual overhead cams)VTEC engine in it with about 165 horsepower. The car is great with a DOHC VTEC, this thing FLYS, I MEAM REALLY FLYS. It topped out at 127 MPH on a 700 foot stretch of road. Thats awesome. Then I started adding stuff to itm like a body kit, cold air intake, 17" rims and Toyo proxy tires, peroformance muffler, performance chip, turbo, etc... now i have about 237 horsepower. Also, the roof with the thingy that takes it down for you automatically is GREAT!!! I''m 6 feet tall and even with the top ON i stil have enough room so that if i hit a bump i woo''t hit myhead on the roof Similar Products Used: nothing, I''m only 17 |

Alloys, cruise, surprising leg room, trunk, power rear window. Quiet engine and exhaust, mpg, looks, your grandmother could work on this thing!
Weakness:
Roof noise, no trunk latch, automatic,It actually smokes a tiny bit when I first crank it, must be the quarter of a million miles + on it. Bought this car off the secretary at my job. Heard word of mouth she wanted $1200, but I had to give her a little extra (I felt bad for her, touched in the head.). Her mother gave it to her and it now has 265,000 miles on it. Runs great, lots of new parts, new paint. I changed the plugs, wires, dist., rotor, timing belt, fuel filter, water pump and replaced several burt bulbs on the interior. You could take the 2 off the front of the odometer and no one would no the difference. Fixed that leaky roof with a coat of silicone (use water on your finger to spread it smooth and easily). I am a 27 year old mechanic at a mine, and the only thing chick about this car is their heads turning to look at it. Sure it squeeks a little, but getting 30 mpg with the top off and the new mp3 player cranking I feel like a damn genius. Similar Products Used: None |
