Light, quick, cheap, Targa roof, fun etc etc
Weakness:
little bit bumpy...but that's only 'cause I put 16" wheels on it Had my car 1 month and was hit by a 92 Grand Prix. Totaled the car, but I had to get it fixed, so I used the insurance money for the repairs...and some new 16" Enkei wheels. It hasn't given me any problems since and I can usually get up to 85mph by the end of most on-ramps. Very zippy car, and lots of fun to drive. I have to disagree w/ what one reviewer said...I'm 6'2" and I fit great in the Sol...smaller drivers can't see the front of the hood. Similar Products Used: 95 Civic |

Strength:
VERY FAST for 98 cu in, handles well, shifts nice(with the DC Sports short throw), this car also looks great sporting the VIS RACING TSC body kit
Weakness:
EVERYONE IS JEALOUS OF IT, THEY HATE ME CAUSE THEY CAN'T HAVE IT What can i say, you can't beat a JDM Honda the only problem i've had with the car is other people being jealous of it, its running mid to low 14's with the B16B JDM Engine in it, almost 200 hp with modified intake and throttle body. Honda del Sol S
Strength:
The del Sol is a lot of fun to drive and I get lots of compliments on it. This is a good "sports car" for those who don't want to spend the hefty $$ on one. Love the Targa hardtop - it feels much more secure than a softtop convertible. Car's small size makes it easy to steer & park (ha to all the people who can't fit their SUVs in a compact spot!). Steering and handling is great compared to sedans and larger cars... even at higher speeds the car takes turns very nicely and hugs the road. Parts are easy to find because the del Sol is based off the Honda Civic. And Hondas have a reputation for being reliable.
Weakness:
Very little storage space, though trunk is generously sized for such a small car. HUGE blind spots on both sides of car requires careful lane changes and backing up in parking lots. Not a good car for tall drivers (over 6') and/or passengers. Small size of car in comparison to some trucks and SUVs is a detriment while driving; often other drivers cannot see my car behind them at all. Car does not do well on uneven roads and can give a bumpy ride for those who are not used to it. And worst part, the del Sol was discontinued in 1997 so you can only get them used. I picked up a 97 del Sol S a little over a year ago. I wanted the car since my college days, so I was thrilled to get it even though I had never even been in one before. My dream car has not disappointed me. All my friends call it the "fun car" and everyone wants to get a ride on nice sunny days. I'm currently in the middle of cosmetically customizing it, so I'm really looking forward to getting it back. Similar Products Used: Previously drove a 1988 Toyota Camry. |

Strength:
Engine, transmission (5-spd), Targa-top, suspension (coil-over double wishbone front/back), looks, interior design.
Weakness:
Stock stereo. Other reviewers have severely underrated the Del Sol; the Si model is plenty quick in stock form (7.3 0-60, just over 15s in the quarter mile), and can rival Ferraris, Masaratis, etc. with a $2000 turbo kit. It handles like a dream, has a song of an engine (D-series), and gets incredible mileage. Not to mention that it's a Targa-top convertible, like the Porsche 911. Honda got everything right with this car. Whether with 125 hp or 225, it's a fantastic car. Similar Products Used: Acura Integra GS-R |

Del Sol S
Strength:
handling, removable roof that stores in trunk, fog lights, power rear window, all buttons placed properly, light, big trunk, seats are skinny like racing seats
Weakness:
Not as many options as the Si or Vtech, no power mirrors, trunk release, cruise control, or power steering This car is nice. It looks really sharp. Before I had a grand am and I still drive that during the winter. Stock it is pretty slow but it seems a lot faster when you put some money in to it. So far i have cold air, header, racing exhaust, and short shifter. It handles great and rides pretty low stock. It is very easy to work on and turns a lot of heads up in norther vermont. There aren't many cars around like it, mostly rusty pick up trucks or cavaliers up here. Similar Products Used: 96 grand am SE 01 grand am GT 95 mazda miata |

Strength:
- Value, Value, Value - Good mpg - Drives OK - Convertible for 13k - You can probably beat full size vans in a race
Weakness:
- it really isnt a sport car - it is not fast - it is not particuarlly rare or cool - you wont get many looks - its cheap - its in the same section as a ferrari and got a better overall rating lol I am a car salesman and have driven this car on occassion for customer test drives and such. Ok, yes it is a decent value but an overall rating over 4 is ridiclous. Don't include the value portion in your rating and see what it comes out to. This car is in the sport car section compared to ferraris, vettes, vipers, maseratis and many other 100k plus cars. You cannot rate a Honda del sol over 4 when a 100k ferrari beats it factually in every performance, luxury and styling catigory by statistical numbers and opinion. Ok, relative to the rest of the sport cars in here the honda del sol at 13k should rate about a 2. I would give it a 1 except it is a good value so it gains a point for that. Come on people think for a second what possible category besides value beat lets say a mid range sports car like a vette or viper. Similar Products Used: I am a car salesman. Need I say more? |

Looks great, Drives well, very dependable, very little problems.
Weakness:
Those awful cup holders!!! Leaking, my car has been rear-ended four times so the top doesn't fit on so well. I absolutley love my del sol. I purchased this car in 1996 with 44,000 miles on it and I still own it, its been paid for for about 4 years and it now has 189,000 miles. No major problems. I am in the market to buy a new car, but I can say that I am going to keep my beloved Honda. Similar Products Used: Chevrolet, Pontiac |

Strength:
Speed capability (i hear 150, but Si is governed at 100), Turning (can turn around in the middle of the highway), the top comes off but it still has a roll bar, interior is nice but could use different gauges, i have a trunk release! (the del Sol S dosent), the trunk is enormous, the top has a holder in the trunk.
Weakness:
acceleration (but what can you expect from 120 hp?), squeaky, occasionally leaks (about once a month a drop of water might fall in), cup holders (but i dont use them anyway), it looks like it sits too tall or has too small of tires. The del Sol is a great car. If you like 2 seater performance but need better gas mileage than a 'Vette than this car would be a good choice. My del Sol replaced my Cavalier Z24 of the same year and I do not regret my decision. Though the Z24 may have been a hair faster, a del Sol is easily modified. One point of advice though, if you live in a hick town full of trucks and Camaros you might get gawked at. Trust me. However when you drop in on a larger city heads start turning. Stock or tuned, this car gets attention. Similar Products Used: 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 I miss that car but the del Sol is better. |
