Strength:

GREAT gas mileage, zippy, lots of room, I've put 100K on it!

Weakness:

It's loud, broken glove box, poor antenna reception, no cup holders, no cruise control for long trips, no airbags, hatch has slight leak resulting in musty smell.

I have been tossing around the idea of buying a new car that has airbags and that isn't 10 years old. In reading reviews for Jetta, Passat, Camry, and the Accord, I've discovered that CRX owners love it and rate the CRX a lot higher than the owners do of their new, hot reliable cars on the market right now. Maybe I should keep my CRX! It has 169,000 miles on it, and runs great. I'm afraid I'll get something new that looks slick but won't prove to be nearly as reliable as my CRX -- dilemma!

Zippier than just about anything. Even people who have brand new cars who have driven my car note how much fun it is to drive -- and they use the word "zippy"!

Strength:

A very reliable car
Good on gas
Well balanced (good through turns)

Weakness:

That they're no longer made.

Ran like a champ (just plugs, oil, antifreeze, brakes and tires) for 6 years. Never failed to start, handled the Dallas heat and crappy traffic very well. Fun to drive, more fun was the 100k of free miles it gave me.

The car was killed by a Plymouth Breeze that ran a red light and nailed the drivers rear side dead on at 40+ mph. I just read a reviewers comment that the CRX has the structural integrity of a "beer can". I have to contest that statement. The 1990 came out of the crash in one piece, as did I.

I owned a 87 CRX prior to the 1990 and it performed just as well and is still running (220K miles) at last report.

Buy this car if your strapped for cash and want to make it to work every day.

Strength:

Acceleration, looks, sound when applied the right exhaust :), cornering (grip etc), VTEC (especially when it kicks in), Fuel consumption, well...
almost everything :)

Weakness:

rust, costs when dealer-maintananced, don't take any of your friends with you if their longer than 1.80 meters :)

Bought it about 1,5 years ago, a little overpriced. In the meantime I've had no real problems, except for rust. I'll be trying to loose the brown spots this summer :)

It's one of the few cars that can grip my attention for longer than 6 months...
I just can't get tired of looking at them, let alone driving them :)

The VTEC is immensely cool...
when you're doing 5500 RPM's, it kicks in and you feel like you're starting all over again...

Only thing is, if you don't watch out, it's a coffin on wheels!!!
(even with the great grip and everything, I experienced a couple of slides... So I'll be driving a bit more carefull in the rain from now on :) )

that's it really...
I just love it !!!

Strength:

Only two seats. You could only take who you needed to take. I'd volunteer to drive even if it meant more than one car...
Hauled all my windsurfing gear around southern Ontario for a summer. Packed it to the rafters on a regular basis. Cheap to maintain, easy to service....and you could wash the entire car without stretching to reach the middle.
Lightweight tossable car. When I had my first one..the Z24 Cavalier was the car that everyone, who didn't know any better, bought. I had more fun toying with these people on the street. The ability to beat that car and cars similiar to that, was of great satisfaction.
A rollerskate with big wheels....
Sips gas...

Weakness:

Only two seats.
Timing belt. It's a Honda'ism it seems. In the interest of low noise as opposed to a chain. It's a maintenance item that can't be ignored.
Rust...This car is easily digested by rust, especially over the rear wheels.
Seats are a little thin with no side bolsters unlike the next generation.
Since this car has gone the way of the dodo bird, fine examples are gettin harder to find.

I've owned two of these beauties. The first in 87 when I spied an 86 on a dealers lot with 40k on the clock. I drove that car everywhere. In one year I put 65k on it. Unfortunately I lost my mind at some point in 88 and traded it in for an 89 Civic Si.
Two years ago I found another with incredibly low miles and relatively clean body and mint interior. For $600! Happy Happy Joy Joy..
Superb concept...well executed with typical Honda thrift for weight and gas.
Although Honda abandon this market or it's dried up...who knows, this car was an eye-opener for the world..It proved you don't need a big engine to have fun....reliably (The Brit's would argue that but that's a different story).
If you were into straight line acceleration..stick with Detroit. However if you wanted a car that had reasonable power...quick acceleration...handled the curves almost as good as a 'vette (not Chevette) than this was the car. Any other car of a similiar vintage and size, maybe had more flash and power but this car could do all things reasonably well and put a grin on your face that would hurt. Cheap ecomomical transport for two.
I'd recommend this car now in the face of gas hitting all time highs.

At the time of my first purchase I was contemplating a VW GTI 16V. But it was $5k more....end of discussion. I had room-mates who were big domestic fans...Ford GM..etc.So I had ample opportunity to thrash a Z24 and a Escort GT...Fiero and an MR2. Although I was underpowered all the time...I was still able to match or beat all of these at some point whether thru corners..from the lights...or even at the pumps!

Strength:

Easy to find parts at junkyards! Fast enough for me. Plenty of space for 2 and luggage/equipment, RELIABLE as hell.

Weakness:

Typical rust around rear wheel wells, as well as wear on the driver's seat from entering/exiting car. Lack of performance parts for 1st generation (1983-87) CRX's, hard to work on yourself (small, cramped engine bay)

Awsome car. Great value. Great mileage. Fast enough to get you a ticket.

Strength:

The perfect car if you are looking for a toy to play with. The handling is the best I have ever seen in a stock Honda. It's great on gas, has plenty of leg room, easy to modify and work on. I have over 130k miles on my engine and it STILL runs like NEW! Honda makes great engines that are built to last!

Weakness:

No backseats(This can be a strenght or weakness depending if you like taking people for rides). No cup holder, no power windows, no power locks, only has 108 stock hp engine, delicate CV joints( all hondas), body will rust if not properly maintained.

What can I say, I am a sucker for quality. The CRX is a great car if you are looking for economy, or looking for a budget racer. Handles great, looks good when compared to todays newer cars, can squeeze into any parking space, has an awesome stock engine(in terms of reliability with regular maintenance), and it just handles like a dream.

Take care of this car and this car will take care of you.

Overall, with good care, and a few mods this car can hanlde like a porsche and sometimes make you feel like you are in one :) Blows away anything else in it's class.

Strength:

Light weight, good handling, well built/engineered vehicle; excellent longevity planning; very dependable.

Weakness:

rusts in bad places (door hinges, sun roof, doors/windows, suspension).

Very, very, very fun to own and drive.
Looks great, especially from the back.
Easy to modify for after market, upgraded performance.
Not too difficult to work on at home.
Fuel economy is astounding. 278,000 original miles and it burns no oil and still gets 50 miles to the gallon.

Strength:

High power to weight ratio. Good loooks. Surprisingly great cargo storage area. Very relaiable engine that is easily upgraded for much less than any Detroit built so called muscle car. Also it has a much better resale value compared to must so called Detroit MUscle cars.

Weakness:

cant really find any. I mean anything else would make it crappy, like a Detroit built car.

Great little car. I got my first one about three years ago. it was the Low Power model. but I found that in turns it outprforms my 1972 Camaro.
I now own a 1990 CRX, DX. This car simply outperfoms my camaro on may issues except passenger carrying and overall cargo space.
I dont think I will ever buy a mediocre power, none fuel efficent, over sized , recall prone poorly designed Detroit built car again.

Sayonara Detroit.
