Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

This is my second posting. Overall a good car however there are a few more things that annoy me. 1) In cold weather (-20 C) the locks don't work. Last winter they jammed and locked me out while the car was running. Again today their screwed. 2) When its -20 WHY would i want the a/c to come on when i'm switching the heat from windshield/floor to windshield???? 3) I wonder what gauge of metal they used because it gets dinged up very easily.

Strength:

Gas mileage, appearance.

Weakness:

She has a problem when I pull her out of the garage into the driveway and wash her. When I pull her back and stop the car something doesn't go right because the next day when I try and start it it appears to be flooded. She starts and runs well after that.

I bought "Muffy" brand new in 1993. She is bright red and a real dream car. Other than the normal tire, brakes, battery etc. she has never had any problem. Each smog check gets a chuckle out of the technician. She currently has over 175,000 miles on her and is as reliable as she has been from the beginning. As well she is still getting 40 miles to the gallon.

Strength:

well built. Honda reliability. Great engine and standard transmission. Some luxury features for bargain price. Looks great! Great paint job. Good gas mileage. roomy for a small car. Comfortable seats. Nice, rugged interior. Great visibility.

Weakness:

Bumpy ride (and I like a firm ride). Rattle in passenger window. Tends to oversteer a bit. Trunk hits me in the head. Rain drips in when trunk is open.

I like great road handling. I loved my '95 Civic hatchback so much that when it reached its end I never hesitated to buy another Civic. But surprise, I found out Honda had changed the suspension and this car handled differently than my old one. Didn't stick to the road as well and the ride is downright bumpy.I can't say I dislike it but I am a bit disappointed with the handling. I do like it. I feel comfortable sitting and driving it. Overall I'd say it sure is worth the bargain price.

Strength:

Gas mileage, ride, maintenance, cost, reliablity, looks/style, comfort.

Weakness:

Power, size.

I love this car. With nothing else said, the name "Honda" says "reliable." I purchased my Civic when I was 16 (currently 20) and I have kept up my maintenance and treated it like my princess... I have only had one problem that was covered under my warranty and that was the thermometer. Recently I have purchased a Land Rover Discovery not because I don't like my Civic... But because it just doesn't have the power I need. The 1.6L 4 cylinder doesn't cut it for this 20 y/o high school English teacher. But besides power and tiny size, it is a GREAT vehicle.

Strength:

Very reliable, great gas milage in city and on highway.

Weakness:

Bouncy ride at times and one of the belts is slipping in the cold weather. Also, when the climate control is set to "defrost" the A/C (Air-Conditioning) automatically comes on and you cannot shut it off bummer!! :(.

What a deal! We got this Civic from a guy going back to Bangladesh. He kept it in like-new condition and it had only 31,000 miles on it. This car (5 speed standard) has run very well with only a minor problem of a slipping, screeeaching belt in the colder weather. The acceleration is great and the handling is good. I look forward to the day these Firestone tires wear out and I can throw the Michelin HydroEdge on this baby (Yeah I expect to keep it beyond the tires 85,000 mile warranty). Flying down the highway at top speed there is absolutly no rattle or quaking.

Strength:

extremely economical car to own great gas mileage 40-50mpg low maintenance; I do most of my own oil/air filter/antifreeze changes, tire rotation, etc. over 125,000k and all I've replaced are the tires original tailpipe & muffler

Weakness:

little slow off the line other than that it's a great little car

I bought this car new '96. It has over 125,000km of trouble free driving. I would highly recommend a Civic to anyone looking for a low maintenance vehicle that is extremely fun to drive. You would think with a 1.6 liter engine it would be a slushbox. But that's not the case, on the highway it's capable of cruising at 150-160k...just don't tell the cops! It is also quite roomy, I just brought an 8ft christmas tree home...inside the car!

Strength:

Great style. Comfortable seats. Honda fit and finish. Great shifter, handling, and power.

Weakness:

Tires and 15" rims are only OK. Paint on bumpers scratches easily.

This is a great car. Fit and finish are perfect. Dealer support has been great for the few minor problems I have had (defective tire and rim and broken CD player; both replaced under warranty at no charge). The seats are comfortable. The car comes loaded. The shifter is so natural in it's position on the dash. The power is good. Handling is good. I am amazed at the roominess of the back seat and trunk area. We can easily fit five in this car. The only complaints so far are that there is no right side armrest for the driver, and the paint on the front and rear bumpers which scratch very easily.

Strength:

This car is everything you would expect from a compact size car. Great gas milage, very reliable, stylish and a large interior.

Weakness:

The only thing I don't like about my Civic is the fact that it's light and so in the winter it slips around on the road when it's icy.

This car is really great. Going from a 1990 BMW 325i, I am really happy with my Honda. Since October of 1999 when I purchased the car as a 2000 model the only repair jobs I've had have been normal tear and wear on brakes and I've changed my tires. The car is at 136,000KM's and I have never had a problem.
