Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Strength:

- FUN FUN FUN to drive.
- 33 MPG w/out AC (50% highway, 50% city).
- 31 MPG with AC on.
- Plays my MP3s and WMA CDs (updated audio).
- Great off-the-line acceleration.
- Grabs the road and won't let it go (WOW!).
- Excellent breaking.
- 5000 mile oil changes (instead of 3000).
- Airbags all around
- Improved cupholders.
- Instrumentaion arrangement.
- Increased steering sensitivity (used to be 3.6 turns, now 2.7 turns).

Weakness:

- Costs more than a simularly equiped Corolla.
- New model, we've yet to see how reliable it is.

I love this car! Handling and fuel economy are great. So far no problems. Chose it over a Toyota Corrola S. Corrola is nice but very boring to me. This was more like a car driven by the Jetsons. One note; steering sensivity has been increased so at first I felt 'all over the road' on the freeway, but after getting used to it I found I like it better and can now steer more effectivly with less effort.

Strength:

- Very easy to find parts at a cheap price compared to many other cars out there.
- Excellent gaz mileage
- Durability and reliability

Weakness:

- None so far that I can think of

The best investment I ever made so far.
I bought this car when it had around 120000 km and now have 330000 km and still going strong. It started burning a little bit of oil (this is expected at such high mileage) but since using MaxLife Valvoline High Mileage oil it is better. Repair cost as been minimal.
List of what I had to change since I got it.
- Oil pan
- Distributor (probably my fault for not changing the spark plugs)
- Wiper motor
- and regular maintenance stuff.
I don't understand people who say they only make around 30 MPG, I make between 45 and 50 MPG depending on my riding style (this was calculated and I precisely made 50 MPG 3 times in a row being carefull on the way I drove with mostly highway driving at aroun 110 km/h)

I got this car when I was 16. Since then me and the car have become great friends, as weird as that sounds:)
This car is a great value, and despite what many people say about the speed, I've gotten it up to 130 mph on a highway, even thought it took a good 40 seconds. The interior is very comfortable for short drives, but for long trips 3+ hours, it gets pretty annoying. The back seat is great for 2 people, but 3 is pushing it. I get a good 30 miles to the gallon, which not many other sporty cars can boast about. Also it is far more affordable than sportier cars.

Good gas mileage.

Weakness:

Noisy engine, road noise is higher than most other cars. Poor overall quality and poor customer service. (They do not even give a courtesy car wash)

When I bought this car I was very confident about the quality of Honda, but unfortunately this car has given me numerous head aches. It has been to the dealership for repairs 5 times in 8 months. When the car had 5000 miles I noticed drips of oil in my driveway. I looked underneath the car and there was a noticable oil leak. I took it to the dealer and they told me that my mechanic did not change the drain plug washer and that was why it was leaking. They even charged me $60 to clean the underside of the car. Within a week oil was dripping on my driveway again... I took it to the dealer again and they tried to tell me it was residual oil from the previous incident. I refused this diagnosis because I knew there was a leak and finally they looked into it and found that the oil pan needed to be resealed. The next thing that occured was at 8000 miles the sunroof leaked when it rained. The sunroof was replaced. Next my clutch pedal started to make a creaking noise every time I press it in. The car had to go on for repair once again, and the dealership replaced the cluth pedal bushing assembly. After 20 miles of driving the clutch pedal began making the same creaking noise. It had to go back again. Although the dealership fixes these annoying problems, they will not give loaner cars and they are also cocky and quick to deny problems. The whole experience of buying this car has been very unpleasant. As a result, I am trading in the car and buying a Ford because I see no reason to support Japanese car companies when it is clear that their cars are not made as well as they used to be.

I bought my 2006 Civic Oct. 23 2005. so have owned it for just over 3 months now and put 7800 miles on it. I bought because I own a 99 civic as well and very satistfied with it. I was looking at the corrola but for the it just wasnt roomy enough and the civic give plunty of room. It is much more responsive in handling than my 99 which I enjoy and the dash set up it excellent be casue they place everything within view so less time to have to take my eyes off the road very comfortable radio and cruise controls right on the steering wheel. There was a recall on it for the accelorator pedal that call fall off and stick about a month after i purchased it. Also i now have a blown out right rear shock with it and have to wait a week and a half for them to get a new one in. Shifting is a lot smoother than previous years and more exceleration at lower rpms than previous years also. As you could probably tell i do a lot of highway milage with it since ive put almost 8k in just over 3 months and i think that it has a very good ride to it. The stock tires were alright in the snow for traction but i run a set of steel wheels with studded winter tires for the winter and the traction is fanominal. The convient auto drivers window and sunroof controls are great so that you do not have to hold the buttons down to operate. I have not gotten my XM radio subscribtion yet but i do like the fact that it is installed on the radio so i dont need added equipment

i really don't know ..

This was my first car I ever owned. Although I love Japanese vehicles and I needed something to get started off with. I must say the engine is good and in winter its wicked not a problem in my opinion. I bought this car 6 years ago. I got it all customized interior. The costing of any japanese cars/suvs/minivans... they should be going high soon because they are just too good. Now its been 6 years.. I'm thinking to get a Honda S2000 but I might want to try some other japanese cars like Acura not sure yet.

Seems underpowered Some slight wandering at highway speeds Transmission slow to kick down No leather or heated seats avaialble No traction control available

I had the car for a week now and have driven it a little over 500 miles. Average mileage has been 33mpg, which I consider to be very good since this is a brand new car. Build quality is exceptional. The car seems a little underpowered on the highway and the 5-speed auto is slow to kick down for additional "oomph". Maybe it's just me, but the car has a tendency to wander somewhat on the highway, causing me to make a lot of steering corrections. It's not really a big issue, just a little annoying. I'll probably get used to it as time goes by. I was a little concerned that I wouldn't like the dash layout, but I'm really getting used to it and I actually like it very much. I wish leather and heated seats, along with traction control were available. I shopped the Civic against a Mazda3 and chose the Civic mainly for it's build quality and potential resale value. It's used as a commuter car (35 miles each way) and it fits the bill perfectly.

Automotive design has made great advances in all areas over the years. But one thing has remained constant. If one chooses a compact car, for economy, compromises in the areas of noise, vibration, safety and refinement go with the territory. The new Honda Civic for 06 is a paradigm shift in these areas. The Civic compares very well with my Chrystler 300M (A very fine car in its own right) that out weighs the Civic by 1000lbs. The Civic even shares the Chrystler's "cab forward" design, which I find attractive. These advances, no doubt, are largely due to the stiff body structure. The Honda has that "carved from a brick" feel. Special mention should be made of the standard 2 channel ABS brakes with electronic brake distribution and side curtain airbags. Steering is fist rate -if a touch light. I was not sure how I would like the spacy dash design but after living with the car for awhile I am now a convert. Sight lines are very good and everything is situated high on the dash. No need to divert your eyes down away from the road--just another example of thoughtful Honda design. The bar for compact car design has definately been set to a higher level with the Civic for 2006.

Strength:

1) Futuristic two tier dashboard 2) Gorgeous Exterior and aerodynamic body design - Really stands out in the traffic, 3) Digital Speedometer - do not have to move your eyes from the road - A real safety feature from my point of view. 4)Roomy interior for a 6.2 driver 5) Very good on Gas - definitely gets 30/40 milage if not more with less persons. 6) built in MP3 player 7) Front and Rear Disc Brakes 8) Audio controls and Cruise controls on Steering - definitely some Safety+convenience features ! 9) Side Curtain Airbags.

Weakness:

1) No Vehicle Stability Control ( Similarly priced Toyota Corolla LE has options for it ) 2) No Traction Control ( Similarly Priced Toyota Corolla LE has options for it ) 3) Bumpier ride than Toyota Camry(midsize) or Chevy Cobalt(compact). 4) Need Electronic Power Brake Assist. 5) No standard fog lights. 6) Need more horsepower during 55-65 speed range. 2.3 Lt Mazda 3 has more. 7) No standard factory installed XM. 8) EX models should come with optional DVD players 9) Remote Key less entry started to malfunction with 2-3 weeks. Dealer lubed the locks but the problem may be elesewhere as it again stopped working. 10) Little noise while making turns. 11) No Safety Lights on doors (Toyotas have it) 12) Wife's complain : No light in the vanity mirror like Toyota Camry 13) Need Power Seat. 14) Need Heated Windshield wiper 16) Need Side Mirror Deforster 17) Side Turn signal on the side mirrors for more safety while turning. 18) Tire pressure Monitor/alarm.

It looks fantastic - both inside and outside. This is the foremost reason we purchased it over 2006 toyota corolla and 2006 mazda3. We are generally happy with this car. We bought it ( Civic, 2006, EX, 4 dr, Auto ) at the price of $18,250 + $149 for dealer installed Splash Guard on 11/10/2005. This is below the MSRP or Suggested True Retail Prices which are around $19,600 for this car !!? Troubles so far - Remote Keyless Entry system started to malfunction within 2-3 weeks. Dealer lubed the locks and it worked for 2-3 days and it went bad again on 12/08/05. We will have to take it to dealership again for repair or inspections. The problem is - all doors can not be unlocked with the remote. Although it can unlock the driver door but even if you press the unlock button several times it refuses to unlock the other doors. However, we may be just unlucky or it may be a genuine problem. But the buyer should know this fact.
