Weakness:
Heavy. Under-Powered Engine. Occaisionally difficult to park. The Accord is a good car, quality built and reliable. Roomy and good gas mileage. Definitely not meant to be a race car, however =) Will provide exactly what you need in a family car. Trunk is pretty big too! Similar Products Used: 1995 Honda Accord EX Sedan 1999 Honda CR-V |

Rust on wheel wells None other - seriously get this car if you are on the fence! After 12 years and 180,000 Miles my Honda Accord is still going strong. I have always expected to replace it when it starts to need too much maint to make it worth my while. So far, it is still going strong. It didn't take long to rust over the wheel well, but I have no complaints. My previous car was a 1990 Ols only lasted 70,000 mi, and was always in the shop. My next car will be a Honda Accord/Civic! Accord LX Coupe 5-sp Man
Strength:
ride, transmission, clutch, style (inside and out), controls, seats, trunk, super quiet, super smooth, feels like going 50 when I'm cruising at 90, stereo...
Weakness:
The only thing I really don't like is drums on the rear wheels -- not many new foreign cars (except cheap ones and Toyota and Honda) come with drums any more. Should offer Xenon option When I first test-drove the Accord with an automatic, I was impressed how smooth and quiet it was. Then I test-drove BMW's - 545i, 330Ci, 325Ci, and forgot about Hondas and Toyotas. THen I remembered again about Japanese Cars when BMW presented their pricing... Anyway, I test-drove the Accord Coupe 5-sp Manual and I fell in love with it -- it accelerates faster than 325i, it is quieter than any 3-series, the stick-shift feels as good and smooth as BMW's (I never thought I was going to find another transmission like BMW's). Coupe looks really great, and I was surprised with the roominess inside -- hey, it is a coupe, what would you expect from it? I was also happy that Coupes Manual came in LX trim because I really don't care in Florida for a sun-roof and things that EX comes with... 30+ mpg all the time. Good power, great handling, & easy to maintain. Radio C/D excellent.
Weakness:
Road noise is intrusive, although I suspect it's from the Michelin tires. Thicker glass would cure this. Seats are firm w/o hardly any give. It's been a fantastic car. My wife mostly drives it & will be a lifetime Honda customer if things stay as good as they are. An ignition switch recall & 2 power window motors replaced under warranty is all that's been repaired in 31,000 miles. Excellent dealer makes this a dream car. Vehicle is almost always washed for free at the dealer, even when going for an oil change. Similar Products Used: Prior vehicles were not similar, but they were a Pontiac Fiero & a Mitsubishi Montero. My wife went for a Honda after multiple co-workers continually raved about their vehicles. Most were repeat customers too. |

Honda Accord 4 door 5 speed
Strength:
Reliability. Gas mileage. Comfort.
Weakness:
Strange engine behavior with the 5 speed manual. Costly to repair and maintain, but worth it. I bought this car exactly a year ago and I am happy with it. It gets great gas mileage, has lots of power for a 4 cylinder and has proven to be reliable. It is very comfortable, but does not handle exceptionally well. My wife got caught in a major wreck with it in October, 2003. It was repaired and, in spite of major damage, does not rattle or squeek. It still tracks straight - you'd never know that it was hit. There is one small problem that bugs me: when I depress the clutch and take my foot off the accelerator, the engine RPM does not drop immediately. I have taken it to several dealerships that I was told (typically) that Hondas just "do that". The original front brake pads need replacing, but that is not bad. Hondas also should be taken to dealships for service and, although I have not had a problem, dealership service is costly. Other than that, the car is a smooth runner; everything works well after 50,000 miles. One note: THE TIMING BELT ON THIS CAR MUST BE CHANGED BETWEEN 60,000 AND 90,000 MILES. This is part of routine servicing. Overall, I would recommend this car with a few minor reservations. Similar Products Used: 1995 Geo Prism; 1992 buick century. |

Honda Accord EX / V6 4door sedan
Strength:
The motor runs good, doesn't use oil. Has good power. I got a 94 in a 55 zone to prove it. The ride is somewhat smooth and quiet. Despite the paint job, the car is pretty nice looking. The fuel mileage is pretty good around 25 miles to the gallon on average.
Weakness:
Paint looks like bad. The resale value is terrible. The guy at carmax said that honda's have excellent resale. Bull-Crap we our about $4,000 more than the resale value of the car. This makes it hard to get rid of. I purchased the car in aug. 2000 with 18,000 miles on it. The transmission went out at 72,000 miles. $2,600 used under warranty. $4,600 for a new one, but I'd have to pay the $2,000 difference. (Not to mention the extended warranty was $1,200) Around 75,000 miles the steel cable on the drivers window broke. About $300, the warranty covered all but $50 per occurrence for the deductibles on each claim. I almost forgot the $50 extra charge to dispose of the old transmission fluid, (like the landfill want take it for free). Boyds Honda of Oxford, NC was scared to work on the trans b/c they were afraid that the warranty company wouldn't pay them. So I had to take it to Leith Honda of Raleigh. They stepped up to the plate and fixed my car, with good service I might add. Next of the list is the sorry paint that hardly shines. Even after several coats of wax. For the last year or two the paint, which is supposed to be dark purple, has started to turn white on the roof and around the back window. The pin stripe also has almost worn off. The tan leather interior has yellow spots forming on the door panels. The screws fell out of the gear shifter. The egr valve went bad around 80,000 miles in which Honda said was a recall, but the car had to many miles on it to fix under a recall. My problem, just like the sorry paint and interior. The drivers headlight tends to blow quite frequently, I'm om my third headlight so far. Similar Products Used: None, and don't plan to either. |

Honda Accord LX
Strength:
No mechanical or electrical problems. Even at 9 years old. Fun to drive. Good gas mileage. Great resale value. safe. Would reccomend this to anyone
Weakness:
Bad AC rusts a little over rear tire wells Attractive to car thieves. They are frequently stolen. beware 94-97 accord owners thieves go after these cars. I bought this car my first year in college after my 87 Camry completly died. I bought it 5 years old with 67,000 miles and had virtually no problems, save for an AC that never really got cold and a little rust spot above the tire rim next to the back right passanger door. A common problem with thit vintage accord. This accord was so reliable - no mechanical or electirical problems whatsoever. Everything worked even at 9 years old and 115,000 miles. I would still be driving this car today except that it was stolen and stripped. A big problem with 94-97 accords in particular. Always lock your door and use a club or alarm system. I'm sure I will get another Honda - they are just too good not to. I thought about getting the VW Beetle but they have to many reliability issues. Best to just stay with what works. And the accord does. Similar Products Used: 87 Toyota Camry 97 Nissan Sentra 04 Honda Civic (great car too) |

Honda/Accord EX
Strength:
-Great gas mileage. Avg above 30 every tankfull. -Handling is crisp, but not too harsh. -Interior fits like a glove. -Transmission is silky smooth. -Steering wheel controls for radio and cruise.
Weakness:
No outside temperature gauge. No compass. Excessive wind buffeting when the sunroof is open completely and the back seat is folded down. I will ask the Honda representative about this. I have owned this vehicle for six weeks and can honestly say that this is the best value I have gotten for a new vehicle purchase. Fit, form and function have raised the benchmark a few notches. I opted for a Silver EX model,4 cylinder, automatic transmision, side air-bags and an in-dash 6 cd player. After 1800 miles of flawless performance my gas mileage has been steadily improving. In a 70-30 mix of highway and city driving I am getting 31 miles to the gallon. I test drove the Mazda 6, Saturn L300, and a Toyota Camry. I wanted to test a Chevy Impala but as soon as I opened my door to get out of my Caravan, the salesperson was in my face. He actually scared the crap out of me. It's like when you open the door of a McDonalds and you don't even have your foot in the door and your being asked what you want. Geez I am 47 years old it takes me a few seconds to even remember why I was going somewhere in the first place. Anyway, the only true competitor was the Mazda 6. It was a tough family battle, the kids liked the sportier Mazda, the wife wanted the lower payment L300. I went with the Honda because of the better gas mileage and the fact that the 4 cyl is a Ultra Low Emmissions Vehicle. I did not get as a good as a deal on the Honda as Mazda was willing to go though. I'll see how my decision shakes out in 5 years.
