Honda Accord EX Sedan
Strength:
VERY solid engine Enough power at 140 horses Excellent, nimble handling Great visibility Comfortable cloth on seats Ample seating in both front and back Fairly good factory stereo They last forever Honda quality
Weakness:
Outdated style for a '93 Inconvienent stereo location on dash NO center console Powered radio antenna - they all are garbage to begin with This generation of Accords are a great performance car, but they are nothing of beauty. Even though it is nearly 13 years old, it could out-handle most other cars on the road today. It is very responsive and enjoyable to drive. Mine had some uncommon problems that don't appear very often in Accords from what I gather. The A/C was worthless. It blew not cold air, but lukewarm air at best and it took 15 minutes to get there. It uses stoneage R12 freon and it would cost you $200 to convert it to modern air coolant if you want it to work right. It also shifted very harshly and the whole car shook when in reverse. If you were stopped or going slow and pressed hard on the accelerator you were jolted back as it shifted like you were on the space shuttle during rocket staging. Other minor things that annoyed me were it had no center console (only an awkward slot behind the parking brake that fit almost nothing) and a poorly located stereo slot that is almost blocked by the gearshift and completely blocked when a drink is in the cupholder. Other than that, this is a GREAT car if you aren't concerned too much about looks. Honda always makes a quality vehicle. Similar Products Used: 1996 Accord EX Sedan |

Honda Accord EX
Strength:
Comfortable, great gas mileage, great in rain and snow.
Weakness:
Radio and CD player are OK but not great sound. The 4cyl won't win any drag races but on the highway it goes from 100K to 140k in seconds. Timing belt to be changed at 100,000k and will cost $400. I purchased the 2.3 4cyl 2000 Accord EX with leather new and have never experienced any problems what so ever. I have rotated the tires regularly and completed all scheduled maintenance on time. I just had an oil change and asked the garage to inspect the entire car as I was considering selling the car since my new job comes with a car (Caravan). The Accord has 87,000 Kms and the garage said they would safety the vehicle for re-sale withoout any required repairs. The car still has the original brakes and tiresand nothing has been replaced. It has never been back to the dealer since the day I bought it. I recently installed a fuel genie in the intake and I now get over 4O miles a gallon on the highway. Strength:
Very nice engine, good solid feel to the automobile
Weakness:
Rattlings, Cracking leather seats, paint is a bit substandard and is peeling in the back I am overall very dissatisfied with my 2004 honda accord. After having it for only 2 months, you can tell that it was put together by someone who was having a bad day. And the warranty, that doesn't seem to do me much good since the dealer thinks things like cracking leather seats and vibration noise are normal wear and tear. This car only has 4,000 miles on it. I've had other cars that haven't had problems with this kind of stuff with 100,000 miles. |

LX Sedan 5-Speed
Strength:
-Good looks -Rock-solid, practically bullet-proof -Decent power -Excellent comfort, visibility, driving position, ergonomics, etc. -Great gas mileage -Flip-up headlights!
Weakness:
-Slightly underpowered for the city (but great on the highway) -Lots of rust (not Honda's fault) -Blown A/C Compressor (Why couldn't they make that rock solid too?) -Carbureted (definitely prefer EFI after rebuilding the bleeping carburetor Honda knows how to make a solid car. I bought this in July of 2004 off ebay from a guy who was going into the marines. He didn't know how to make a good car listing but I knew a good deal when I saw it. She's got about 200k on her but judging from the interior it could easily be half that. The exterior has some decent rust, as it spent its entire life on the Hudson River. (I'm still finding sand in my door jamb.) Rust notwithstanding, I drove this car from New York to Oklahoma City with arcing spark plugs wires and a leaky carburetor, but she didn't hick up at all. She ran pretty rough because of the carburetor, but she maintained 70mph without undue drama. Once home, I rebuilt the carburetor ($40 kit from O'Reilly's and many hours of awkward positions and head-bumping) and replaced the spark plug wires and she's purred like a kitten ever since. She burns a bit of oil, but it doesn't seem to affect how she runs. It's quiet too, all the rubber seals are there and snug and all the doors fit tight and close nicely. Except one, and that's cause some jerk backed into it so it's not perfectly snug. But don't blame Honda. Honda's wiring is stellar, too. Despite lots of rust, I've never had a loose connection anywhere on the car. Everything still works as it ought to. Except the AC compressor. The AC clutch went out, quite a bummer. But that's what power windows are for. The transmission is incredibly smooth and just feels brand new. Clutch has the perfect wight and positive feedback without feeling grabby. Cornering is remarkably good for a four door sedan, but that's partly due to my 17 inch rims. Interior design is so typically Honda, simply and easily executed, but still with a sense of aesthetics and proportion. The climate control is the most compact and easy to use of any I've ever used. Honda's trademark push-buttons work perfectly. The trunk is voluminous, as big as my mom's '01 Camry, and the opening when the seats fold down is much bigger than hers. I have to lug around a 50-lb 88-key keyboard, and my little Accord does it perfectly. The seats are comfortable and non-fatiguing, though I would trade some of the lumbar support for side bolstering. Visibility is superb. I feel as if I am in a green house. Driving position is perfect; low-slung, yet still high-enough to see everything. Rear seat room is surprisingly adequate, considering this is a compact. Plus, gas mileage is incredible. EPA's estimates (which are usually unrealistically high) are 24-30, but I get 28 in the city and 32 on the highway. Speaking of the highway, this engine only packs 98 horsepower (grimace), but it cruises on the highway easily. And who doesn't love the awesome retractable headlights? Honda Accord EX
Strength:
Having the manuel transmission is awesome. I have never been a fan of driving automatics so having that makes it that much better.
Weakness:
None really to speak of I haven't had any trouble with the motor itself it has just been things here and there that are going out but that is just because it is getting old. This was my first car I bought it when I was fifteen and started drving it at sixteen and have been driving it for almost a year now. It handles great in the winter with all terain tires. After I put some aftermarket touches on it, it turned into a very sporty looking car. Tinting the windows was expensive, the guy that tinted them said it was because of the curved back window which makes sense but that was the best thing that happened to the car. We have had few problems with it we replaced the alternator and the radiator but for having 170,000 miles on it things tend to wear out. We have also been battling the driver side door latch assembly but it is just worn out too. The new part is 300 bucks but I'm just going to spend the money and get a new one becuase I have already gone through one from a junk yard and I'm back at square one. It is a great car to travel in too. Exelent gas millage and very dependable. Similar Products Used: none really this is my first car but it is pretty much like a lot of my friends cars that have a four cylinder. Handling is a lot better than a lot of other cars I have drove. Much better than a Camry that I drove. I wouldn't trade it for the world. |

Everything....I noticed most automatic Accords are the same i would seriously look into a 5 speed AUTOMATIC tranny that's if they are even made that way in the USA....IT'S AWESOME!
Weakness:
I really have no complains about my Accord with the execption of my service light(or how it reads on my odometer cluster SERVICO RAI.) I learned how to re-set it if their is nothing wrong with the car I guess it's just a reminder?.. I'm impressed with My 2000 Honda Accord, back in 2001 I bought it in Mexico city had it sitting in my under ground garage at my vavaction home for about a year. I decided to bring it here to the USA since my 98 Chevy Malibu just gave out. It was horrible bring it to the USA but it was all worth it since she is a great car!! In Mexico they have a brand of Honda called the EXR similar to the EX put just more sporty people some times ask my why my car has the EXR of course I explain to them just when it all boils down I bought under a certitfied program from Honda de Mexico with about 1k miles or in kilos about 4k I got a very good deal spending about $160,109 pesos which is about 16,900 US dollars for a Accord with a sun roof, leather seats, 3.0 VTEC v-6, rear spolier and only with extremely low kilometer or mileage, in the USA I would have spent over 23k!!!!! The only down side besides paying the USA customs Mexican GOV. tax on import and export fees and having to charge the odometer to miles is warr. service is ever needed. Since my Accord is made in mexico with 82% of the parts orgin from Japan and Mexico a Honda dealer in the USA will not service major items such as a breake down on the tranny or engine, they say that the could tell by bring up the VIn #. They told me that even though Honda of America some times imports car from Mexico for resale in the USA that their intended for a service-able condition, but if teh sale is intended for Canada or Mexico it may cause a problem. I did find out soemthing new about Honda Accord their are only three places in the world where their made at...Japan( vin starts with JH)..Mexico (Vin starts with 3H)and USA (vin starts with 1H)....their have been recommendation made by several Honda owers and dealers i talked to they said if you ever by a Accord make sure VIN starts with a "J" or a "3"..they say it better craftsmanship. Honda Accord EX-R, 5 speed, 4cyl
Strength:
Comfortable Decent handling Good gas mileage Styling A/C works, surprisingly
Weakness:
-Almost everything mechanically...the car breaks easy, what else can I say? -Weak, Weak engine. One of the weakest cars around (No low end torque) -Reliability (I'm only speaking for MY accord) Price paid: $6900CDN I have owned this car for about 10 months now and it currently has 204,000 kms on it (approx 127,000 miles) and it has been a bad vehicle. When I first bought the car, it drove like a dream: Fairly good acceleration for a 4 cyl car, slick shifting 5 speed manual transmission, good handling and ride, and so on. However, a couple months after purchasing it, the problems started to occur. First, the clutch slave cylinder seal burst and I lost pressure to my clutch system and was stranded. The radiator (seemed like it had a couple years left in it when I bought the car) died, and all the coolant leaked out and the engine nearly overheated. I also had to replace the timing belt (eek), and that was a $450 repair. Next, for some odd reason, the engine feels like it has lost a lot of power: it now accelerates very sluggishly, and I am disappointed considering how responsive it was less than a year ago when I bought it. I don't know what is wrong with the engine but I know that when I can barely keep up with my sister's 94 mazda protege (it's a bloody automatic with the SOHC engine for crying out loud!!!) then you know something is terribly wrong. Shall I keep going? I have just begun. Next, my power steering pump is slowly dying: makes my car sound like a tank until the steering fluid warms up. Next, my thermostat was stuck open, had to get that replaced. Next, my clutch (oooh boy!) is starting to shudder when I take off, and it too will need to be replaced fairly soon. The underbody plastic trim has somehow started to sag off the wheel wells and rattles when I'm driving (makes my car sound like a cheap piece of crap). I could keep going here but I will stop scaring you from buying a honda accord. Honestly, I do not abuse my accord; I practically BABY it: Only use synthetic oil, frequent tire rotations, fluid checks, regular maintenance. Even with my fervent maintenance, this Japanese hog causes me continual grief. I know I have focused on all the problems so far (I only listed two thirds of them), but there are some strong points to this car, such as driving comfort, good gas mileage, and styling. In general, this car has been a pain in my rear end for the past 8 months of ownership. I know many accord owners claim that their car is "extremely reliable" or "very dependable", but let me tell you, my accord has been everything but reliable. If I can pass on any advice to people reading this review: PLEASE be very careful when you buy a used accord! Make SURE that you know how the previous owner treated the car...make sure you have maintenance records, and make sure you don't buy my piece of crap that I will be selling in the spring. If I were you, buy a brand new accord and take care of it. These cars were definitely not designed for anything past conservative, non-demanding driving. If you push them, or ask for a little pep, they will break in a heartbeat and cause you thousands of dollars of grief. It's pretty sad to admit this but my 1993 Ford Escort GT was a far more reliable car than my Honda Accord. Pretty sad. I should have offered the salesman at Oakville autocenter $2500 for this car. I will never again purchase a used car, and I am not sure if I would buy another accord. none! This car is a beauty. The reason why I got it is because I had traded in my old 2002 accord which was still in good condition but milage was very high. At first I wanted to get another car because you always want to try another car and not the same on. But when i got into the car to test drive it i fell in love with it and had to get it. Great handling and fuel economy. Fun to drive. Great city car. After 111K, still had nothing to fix on it.
Weakness:
Maintenance and repair costs. Too small for a family car, if you include all the added weight. I like this car more than my 99 Accord. Though much smaller it still has enough room for four adults. Though it only has 124 HP/2511 lbs, it accelerates great if I drive it alone. If you want a city/short distance car, this is it. Similar Products Used: 99 Honda Accord. |

It has a very responsive and powerfull V6 (200 HP and only 3020 lbs). Very, very comfortable. Great highway car, a smooth ride at 85 MPH.
Weakness:
Car hesitates at lower RPM's if I give it very little gas. Expensive maintenance and repair costs, exspecially if you go through the dealership. I'm very happy with this car's performance and comfort. The only drawback is maintenance and repair costs. Similar Products Used: I also have a Honda Civic, 111K and still no problems. |
